Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out 6.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:37) Variety- The Childrens Variety Plate 1350m

Back Me

5 Rancho Montoya (Bet Now: $1.90) looks a near moral here. The punters knew what they were doing with this Stuart Kendrick youngster on debut at Ipswich and he ran right up to the prohibitive odds with a dominant win, and did it without really being extended by Fradd. He’ll eat up the 1350m here and only bad luck will beat him.

Danger

2 Ilovevegas (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Ben Currie trained colt that resumed on his home track at Toowoomba and while I doubt he beat much, gee he was very impressive I thought, coming hard from the back and spacing his rivals, running time also. Not sure he beats the top tip, but he should run well regardless.

Long Shot

10 Weekend Saga (Bet Now: $15.00)is a handy looking filly for the Heathcoate camp who has had a couple of runs back from a break, both at the Gold Coast, the latter resulting in a maiden win, and to the eye it was dominant and she ran okay time compared to the older horses for the day. Confident she can measure up.

Race 2. (12:12) Powertrain Services Plate (Class 3) 1050m

Back Me

11 Bonsho (Bet Now: $4.80) is a smart type that resumes for the Tony Sears camp. This filly hasn’t raced since early April at Ipswich where she sat near the speed and fought on very strongly when second to Red Chandelier. No trials, but she does race well fresh and gets the inside gate for Ron Stewart.

Danger

8 Majella Magic (Bet Now: $6.00) is a handy enough type for the Tony Gollan yard. Two runs back from a break have been okay, both at the Gold Coast over 1100m and 1200m respectively and I just think each time she just hasn’t quite finished it off, so back to 1050m here with Fradd on looks ideal. Just for her, you’d want the track to dry up a touch.

Long Shot

1 Keep On Rocking (Bet Now: $27.00) is an interesting type here. Resumes for the Gary Duncan camp off the back of a disappointing three run Autumn prep, where his best effort was a second to Waltham at the Sunny Coast. Resumes with no trials, but he does have an okay fresh record and could represent value.

Race 3. (12:47) Caltex Eagle Farm Handicap 1050m

Back Me

1 Legadema (Bet Now: $7.50) is a smart gelding that resumes for the Toby Edmonds. Kicked off his career with a couple of sharp wins before racing over the 1350m here where he just didn’t quite run it out behind Eminent, running second the Group l winner Capital Gain. Trial win here was great and he’ll use his best asset here- early speed.

Danger

4 Wonder Boom (Bet Now: $20.00) is a hard fit/in form colt for the Paul Butterworth camp. Been really well placed by connections in recent times, winning at Gatton before going to Rockhampton where he led all the way and though tiring late, he clung on. Back to 1050m is a big tick and he rates highly.

Long Shot

10 Black Mink (Bet Now: $18.00) drops a fair bit in depth after racing in a 2YO race at Ipswich where she couldn’t really get in from the tricky draw and I am not sure she was entirely happy around the tricky circuit. She does have a touch of quality about her and this is a very winnable race if she brings her best.

Race 4. (13:22) BOQ- Victoria Point Handicap (80) 2040m

Back Me

2 Anymore (Bet Now: $11.00) is nearly a month between runs since racing in the Gatton Cup where he was backed late in betting and the punters got it spot on as the Toowoomba galloper sat on speed and dashed clear late under Ruby Ride for a dominant win. Has failed badly in town previously, but he finds a very winnable race here.

Danger

3 El Campeador (Bet Now: $9.50) will love the rise in trip for the Tony Gollan camp. He was well backed at odds to take out the Rocky Cup last time out and he was a real eye catcher late in the piece, closing off with real purpose to run a close up fifth to Colour Charge. Yet to be proven at the trip but he gives the impression he will handle it.

Long Shot

7 Courageous Rock (Bet Now: $12.00) is on the seven day turnaround for the Gary Duncan camp after racing over the mile on his home track at the Sunny Coast last Saturday where he did a bit of work on speed and stuck on really well in defeat behind Steamin’. He is a winner up to 2200m, so the trip is no issue and he does appear to map okay.

Race 5. (14:02) Brett Whaley & Co Handicap 1640m

Back Me

2 Mr Epic (Bet Now: $4.00) was well backed to win the Rockhampton Cup last time out and if you were on, it was a hard watch. Just got a bit too far back in the run and didn’t get clear running at a right time for a horse who likes to build momentum. He’s third up now, so he should be cherry ripe fitness wise and has a fab record at Doomben.

Danger

5 Lord Coconuts (Bet Now: $6.50) is a progressive galloper for the Tony Gollan yard who drifted late in betting last time out over the Ipswich mile but aided by a lovely ride from Fradd, the horse railed beautifully and kicked strongly to get the win. I think he will be better suited on the bigger track and rates highly.

Long Shot

3 Double Impact (Bet Now: $13.00) was specked at longer odds a fortnight back in the Mumm at this track/distance and went forward as he usually does, making Religify work, but he faded out of the finish late. This looks a big drop in depth, he maps well again, looks the leader and if he does get to the front without doing much work, he’ll take some beating.

Race 6. (14:42) Spicers Balfour Hotel Handicap (90) 1200m

Back Me

9 Land Office (Bet Now: $3.40) gets the nod for me here. Talented sprinter for the Steele Ryan stable who was well backed to win the Rocky Newmarket last time out but just copped a bit too much pressure on speed and that was the end of him behind Counter Meal. 1300m is too far. 1200m on the tight track is ideal and he can bounce back hard.

Danger

1 Irish Constabulary (Bet Now: $3.60) looks an obvious threat here. Comes miles back in grade after contesting the Healy last time out at this track/distance where Lloyd gave him every chance but he was no match for the turn of foot produced by Burning Passion. Rises sharply in weight but will be hard to beat.

Long Shot

8 Taillevent (Bet Now: $7.00) drops big time in grade after contesting the Eye Liner where he ran very well in defeat after doing a stack of work out wide without cover when eighth to Monsieur Gustave, beaten 2.6L. Has a good record at Doomben, and this is a weak race compared to what he has been racing against recently.

Race 7. (15:22) Variety- The Childrens Charity Handicap (Class 6) 1350m

Back Me

11 Backslapper (Bet Now: $6.00) for me here. Son of Court Command who was hard in the market on Rocky Cup Day a fortnight back and aided by a lovely steer from Anthony Allen, he got the job done. The start prior behind Pinch Mountain at the Sunny Coast was first up and I thought he was very good there. Rates highly.

Danger

5 Cornrow (Bet Now: $5.00) had really good market support when racing over this trip at Ipswich on Cup Day there where he had a relatively nice sit near the speed and tried hard but was swamped late by William Wallace. Drops a bit in depth here I suspect and being fourth up now, he should be hard fit.

Long Shot

10 Bushy (Bet Now: $8.50) is one horse who will handle give in the track. Resumed over this track/distance a fortnight back and despite starting long odds, I thought he ran a beauty on speed when a close up third to the Stakes performed Cruising Speed. Second up last time in he was three lengths off Mystic Opal. That reads very well for this.

Race 8. (16:02) Kanga Couriers Handicap (Class 6) 1350m

Back Me

7 Chandana (Bet Now: $7.00) is the most interesting runner on the program. Matty Dunn trained mare having her first run for the camp after formerly being with Chris Waller. On her day, she was a Saturday horse in Sydney, but she just didn’t produce that often enough. If she brings her best here, she’ll win.

Danger

5 Cruising Speed (Bet Now: $4.80) was a drifter in the market when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back but that didn’t matter to her as Lloyd had her up on speed and she found plenty when challenged and clung on to win. Was only second up there, so improvement is there I would think and she maps well.

Long Shot

6 Queen Of Wands (Bet Now: $13.00) is the knockout chance. Resumed with a top win for the new stable at the Gold Coast before going to the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich where she got a mile back and didn’t seem entirely happy on the circuit behind Maternal, but I thought her last 150m when balanced up was encouraging. She can go close here with the right run.

Race 9. (16:37) CMG Plaster Handicap 1350m

Back Me

3 Eat My Trust (Bet Now: $6.50) was an enormous run here two weeks back for the Matty Dunn yard. He was tardy away and got back to near last on a somewhat leaders track and to his credit, I thought he did a very good job to get as close as he did. Provided we get an even level playing field here, he’ll take some holding out late.

Danger

5 Raja Ampat (Bet Now: $8.50) is a talented type for Stuart Kendrick who ran very bravely two back at Ipswich behind With A Promise before racing on his home track at the Sunny Coast last Saturday where I thought he was enormous in defeat behind Prioritise after getting back to near last in the run. Browne jumps back on and is a key threat.

Long Shot

7 Kubis (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented three year old for the Rob Heathcoate yard who is struggling a bit to get the win on the board but he is always around the mark and never far away. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back and did a really good job from the wide gate behind With A Promise. Just needs better luck to go close.
