Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:23) Tab Long May We Play Hcp 1350m
I’m keen on 2 Bellissimi Amici (Bet Now: $6.50) for Rob Heathcoate. On face value, she hasn’t done much this time in, but the two runs have come over 1110m and 1200m respectively, trips that are short of what she prefers. Hasn’t set the world on fire in those runs but has been far from disgraced. Now out to a more ideal trip, fitter, her best is better than these.
1 Bangers And Mayo (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing really well for Team Sears and I don’t think coming back to 1350m will be an issue. Positive ride from Patis saw this youngster bolt up three weeks ago at Ipswich over 1666m, leading throughout to win impressively. Should be near the speed again and proving hard to get past.
5 Eeloh (Bet Now: $5.00) should appreciate the rise to 1350m. Desleigh Forster trained filly that resumed over 1200m here a fortnight ago and worked home okay on a very testing track behind impressive winner and stablemate Fleet Dove. She’s raced like she would appreciate further in both career outings and she gets it here. An improver at odds.
Race 2. (11:58) Brc Membership Renewal (72) 1110m
3 Foxpack (Bet Now: $19.00) is suited back to the 1110m, the distance of her dominant first up win, which came here. Then tried to stretch out to 1200m at Eagle Farm last time out and she was there to win, but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to One For Betty. Hard fit now and back to 1110m, I think she’s very likeable against this lot.
4 Say Haya (Bet Now: $3.20) is worth another chance. Was well supported when racing over 1200m here two weeks ago and after doing work to the find the front, she looked to be going comfortably, but gee she didn’t find much late when fourth, a tiring fourth to Snowzone. Back on firmer footing and back to 1110m, she can bounce back for sure.
5 Katy’s Daughter (Bet Now: $4.20) is an Epaulette mare for Steve O’Dea that resumes. Hasn’t raced since Feb 8 at Eagle Farm when on speed and just felt the pinch late behind surprise winner Boom Boy. Blinkers on First Time for the resumption, which signals intent, and the Doomben trial a few weeks ago was pretty good to the eye.
Race 3. (12:33) Xxxx Dry Hcp (c6) 1350m
3 Potro Duro (Bet Now: $3.60) is a beauty, he’s reliable and is tough, so happy to be in his corner. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1350m at Ipswich when near the speed and copping pressure form Right Or Wrong and beat that horse off, but couldn’t fend off the swoopers and was nabbed on the peg by Wren’s Day. No horse of that quality here, lands near the speed and is hard to beat.
Good test here for 7 Roman Aureus (Bet Now: $2.10) now he’s a four year old but he is promising. Ran over this track/distance last Wednesday where Larry Cassidy put him into a beaut spot just off the speed before peeling wide and gee he was strong to the line in winning. He’s progressive this guy and think he can measure up.
For wider multiples, can certainly include 2 Alpine Dancer (Bet Now: $26.00), who does save his best for Doomben. Resumed over 1200m here a fortnight back and closed off okay late in the piece against the race shape behind Kylease. Normally needs another run or two to find his best, but that resumption was more than encouraging.
Race 4. (13:08) Souths Sports Club Plate (c3) 1615m
5 Fairy Me Home (Bet Now: $5.50) is finding it hard to breakthrough for another win, but gee he gets his chance here. Ran over 1800m at the Eagle Farm midweeks back on July 15 when put into a lovely spot by Du Plessis and was presented to win and put them away, but was bloused late by Brando. Back in trip I do like, hard fit, racing well…just needs to put a win on the board.
Think a rise to the mile is a big tick for the Kelly Schweida trained gelding 8 Ultimate Ring (Bet Now: $11.00). He has raced over 1300m in both runs back from a spell, the latest coming on July 22 when back and closing off well behind Mantelli. Good third up record, likes Doomben and his two runs back suggest a win is approaching.
Interested to see how 1 Cinnamon Missile (Bet Now: $6.50) goes, a former Matty Dunn trained galloper that has found a home with John Manzelmann in North Queensland and is in reasonably good form. Ran over the mile last Friday on Mackay Cup Day and was good in defeat when third to stablemate Don’t Doubt Lara. Not sure he wins, but is one for multiples.
Race 5. (13:47) Tab Long May We Play (80) 1615m
4 Cloak (Bet Now: $3.30) has returned in excellent order for the David Vandyke stable, winning 2/2 this prep. Latest of those wins came four weeks back at the Sunny Coast over 1400m when put into a lovely spot by Brad Stewart just off the speed and once he pushed the button when in clear air, it was race over. He’s flying and can make it 3/3.
8 Fastnet Cyclone (Bet Now: $8.00) seems to be really enjoying his racing under the care of Stuart Kendrick. Looked in awful trouble here last Wednesday but Jimmy Orman got him to the outside of runners and he really attacked the line hard to get up and win. Harder here, but is a proven Saturday performer and finds a winnable race.
1 Bargannon (Bet Now: $8.50) is looking like he wants further but does have a touch of quality about him. Ran in the Rockhampton Cup last time out and took forever to get going, but warmed up very late when a close up fourth to Absolut Artie. I think he wants 2000m, so remaining at 1600m is the knock, but draws well and the claim for Huxtable helps.
Race 6. (14:27) Cascade (72) 1110m
8 For My Annie (Bet Now: $4.80) back to 1110m looks a big tick for Lindsay Hatch. Several weeks between runs since attempting to lead throughout over 1200m at Eagle Farm and tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Broken Arrows. Back to a short course trip I do like, should land near the front and take some beating.
Good little test here for 5 Man In Motion (Bet Now: $6.00) but hard to knock the way he’s going this time in, winning 2/2, albeit each win has been 800m scampers where he has been simply too good for them. Yet to win beyond 1000m, but I always respect the stable when they bring one to town. Definite market watch.
10 Royal Hale (Bet Now: $7.50) is a threat for me. Tony Gollan trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since contesting a strong race at the Gold Coast during the Magic Millions Carnival when down the track behind Phobetor. That followed a dominant first up win and he does tend to race best with fresh legs. Trialled up really well behind Pizonie a few weeks ago. Think he’ll be ready to go.
Race 7. (15:07) Quincy (78) 2200m
8 Lady Solerno (Bet Now: $3.60) on top. Ronald Cameron trained mare that is in a real purple patch at the moment, winning her past two. Each of those wins have come at 2200m when getting a beaut run just off the speed before angling clear and finishing best. Gets run of the race from the inside gate and love the booking of Larry Cassidy.
5 Dashing Special (Bet Now: $4.60) is racing super for Barry Baldwin and I think he can take this out, a tricky race with a host of winning chances. Good change up speed saw him win over 2000m here two back before going to 2200m at the Gold Coast where I don’t think he saw out the 2200m strongly enough, but mind you he was only grabbed in the last couple of strides. Going well and can win here.
11 Speaking Bad (Bet Now: $6.50) gets one more chance. Was really keen on her when she raced here two weeks ago and there was others that liked her too because she was well supported at a price, and looked to be tracking into the race nicely, but didn’t fire in the straight behind Stardome. She gets one more chance and if she doesn’t fire, it’s a life ban.
Race 8. (15:47) Canadian Club Hcp 1050m
The class gets 1 Niccanova (Bet Now: $5.50) home surely. Yes, 1050m is short of his best, and his main target is the Epsom, but he has class, residual fitness and with the claim, he’s just so well in at the weights. Tempo looks like it will be strong so he’ll be conceding a start but be rocketing late, hopefully getting there in time.
8 Tullio (Bet Now: $2.20) is just racing so well this time in that you can’t ignore him. Admittedly has been well placed but has still had to win and he’s done that in all four runs this prep, the latest over this track/distance two weeks ago on a very testing track. Can he translate that to a firmer surface and against stronger opposition? I think he can.
7 Malvern Estate (Bet Now: $18.00) is a Desleigh Forster trained gelding that had over a year off prior to resuming at the Sunny Coast four weeks ago when hard in the market despite the break between runs with no public trials, which was a good sign. He was probably ridden a touch too warm on the heavy track and felt the pinch late. He’s a good second up performer and likes Doomben.
Race 9. (16:23) The Village Kitchen Ascot (80) 1200m
12 Maddi Rocks (Bet Now: $2.10) looks the pony to bet on. Chris Waller trained mare who was absolutely luckless here two back when resuming. Then went to Ipswich where she was absolutely bolting for a run. Just a matter of getting clear air, which is what she got and away she went. She’s quality and looks the one to beat, clearly, provided the track isn’t too wet.
Not sure about 5 Broken Arrows (Bet Now: $6.50) on wet ground so hopefully he gets a dry deck again and his confidence should be up after his win at Eagle Farm several weeks ago when finding dry ground, sitting back in the run and having last look to wear them down. Tick over trial was good, he’s going well…just wants a deck deck and hopefully he gets it.
8 All Important (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of I Am Invincible that resumes for the Tony Gollan stable. This gelding hasn’t raced since May 15 when attempting to lead throughout at the Sunny Coast and he did give a reasonable kick, but couldn’t quite finish it off. Been given a decent enough spell and thought his recent trial was more than encouraging.
