8/2/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield, CF Orr Stakes day

1 One Long Day (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying and commands respect off the back of a narrow second at Sandown a fortnight, looming large to win when let down but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Smokin Princess. He’s racing very well and looks really hard to beat against this lot.

6 Bar Dubai (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Price/Kent trains this former UK stayer and I know Myracehorse are thinking/hoping he can reach the top level of staying races, so resuming here in a 74 I find interesting. His trial work has been strong and outside the top tip, the race is on the thin side.

2 He’s Beset (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable. He ran at Sandown last time and didn’t really get the rub of the green in a race dominated on speed behind impressive winner Porter. Racing like a rise to 1600m will suit and good booking of B Shinn, hopefully to settle closer.

8 Mannerheim (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Chris Waller since racing over 1800m at Flemington where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Like him back up in trip, and strikes a winnable race.

7 Inevitable Award (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be suited back to 2000m for Paul Preusker. He was a strong winner two back over 1800m at Flemington before going to Sandown and 2100m two weeks ago where he tried hard but just lacked the finale to get the job done behind Kings Valley. Back to 2000m, he takes beating here.

3 Perfect Play (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on the bunny and take running down, as seen at Sandown a fortnight back. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but just felt the pinch and didn’t have the change up speed to go with Kings Valley. Good racing style, hard to get past.

2 Berkshire Breeze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) to resume a winner for Ciaron Maher. He is first up, having not raced since the Caulfield Cup where he just looked a tired horse, finishing tailed off behind Duke De Sessa. Two jumpouts under the belt, he’ll press forward and has brilliance.

8 Shaiyhar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a strong win at Flemington where he appreciated the gentle tempo, liking the sit/sprint set up and finished best to wear down Deakin. He’s found winning form and he can certainly go on with it here.

7 Touristic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Peter Snowden since resuming in The Lakes at Wyong where the tight track and 1600m…just an awful set up and he ran accordingly when down the track behind Waterford. Much better set up here, I say he’s a knockout hope.

2 Aleppo Pine (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good thing IMO. James Cummings trained juvenile that has been kept on ice since an electric debut win on Ballarat Cup Day. Not sure he beat much but the arrogance of the win was something else. Kept on ice with the Blue Diamond in mind and his jumpout work to get ready has been sharp. Good luck beating him.

3 Field Of Play (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat against these. He comes here with the 1200m run under the belt, with that being a sharp debut win at The Valley when giving them a start and a beating. Looked sharp in a jumpout a couple of weeks ago and will be strong late.

7 Menshevik (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred colt for the Neasham/Archibald camp that was kept pretty safe in betting when debuting two weeks back in the Preview where he was quite raw and new to the caper so I am forgiving of that effort behind Shining Smile. Has that run under the belt and has a touch of quality.

5 Gin Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me each way. Team Hayes trained filly that debuted two weeks ago at Morphettville where I don’t think she beat a great deal but the arrogance of the win was something else, showing good change up speed without being fully extended. Keen to see how she goes against these.

1 My Gladiola (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the current Blue Diamond favourite and easy to see why given her debut win in the Preview. Did she beat much? Probably not, but the manner in which she won and the way she lengthened late was quite impressive. Has to be respected with the upside/improvement to come. The query is the two week gap off a blistering debut…does she need an extra week off?

8 Odessa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Zoustar that resumes for Team McEvoy after debuting in the Maribyrnong Trial in the early part of the Spring when raw/new to the caper and just looked in need of the experience. Given a good break and she has trialled well to get ready.

I reckon take note of the gear changes here. 3 Insurrection (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up for Michael Freedman. His second trial he has had this prep, he went like a rocket in front, noteworthy with Blinkers on. No notification of Blinkers back on the first up run, as of yet at the time of writing. But, he did trial super without them in the first prep and B Shinn booked, there is intent.

2 Maharba (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should prove hard to beat here for Grahame Begg. He comes here first up, having not raced since the Winterbottom where you could make a case that he should have won but got too far back when a closing second to Overpass. Has jumped out well for mine, the latest being on Monday, and has class.

9 Band Of Brothers (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance despite not really being treated well at the weights. Latest run came two weeks back in the Manfred where he loomed large to win and looked the winner when presented but just couldn’t quite see it through. Back in trip I like, hard fit and in form.

Gee I reckon there is a chance here for blacktype with 9 Jenni The Fox (Bet Now:  $SP.00). First run for Alex Rae came in a Cranbourne and her win…my goodness it was something else. Gave them a start, had nothing to drag her into the race but she beat them and was eased down the last 100-150m. The scary thing is that her last 200m was quicker than the 400-200m split despite being eased down. Watching the replay, you can see Froggy give a head shake close to the line, seemingly looking stunned/amazed/impressed by what was underneath. I think she’ll measure up.

1 Evaporate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality three year old for Team Hayes that resumes after a busy Spring prep. He hasn’t raced since the Cox Plate when clearly outclassed and ran accordingly when tailed off behind Via Sistina. He looks to have jumped out very well for the return and has class on his side.

3 Catoggio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on the bunny and run a bold race, as seen in the Magic Millions Guineas when attempting to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front and just felt the pinch late in the piece. If he gets front end control, he’ll run well.

2 Warmonger (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side and that is going to carry him a long way towards victory. He resumes for Price/Kent, having not raced since the Caulfield Cup where he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Duke De Sessa on a testing track in a testing track. Trialled well last week at Geelong and will be quite strong at the end.

Great to see 1 Duke De Sessa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) back at the races. Caulfield Cup winner that resumes, having last raced in the Champions Stakes where he found them a bit sharp behind Via Sistina. Looks to have trialled up very well for the return and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

13 Howgoodareyou (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver up in trip for Grahame Begg. First run for the stable came over 1400m at Flemington where she got too far back in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was good in defeat. Better set up here, she’s one for exotics.

1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a star, he’s a previous winner of the race…it all points to him. Team Hayes have realised that 2000m is not his go in life so 1400m-1600m is the sweet spot. He hasn’t raced since an epic win in the Champions Mile, spelled with a big Autumn in store, potentially including a trip to Hong Kong. He has trialled up super, he’ll stalk the speed and be strong late.

5 Another Wil (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Group l winner in waiting…could it come here? Potentially. He was so game in defeat last time in the Rupert Clarke but just couldn’t quite finish the job, nabbed late. Loved the way he has jumped out leading in and looks prepped up to run very well.

10 Private Life (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Chris Waller trained Caulfield Guineas winner that resumes and the fact he resumes here tells me they have eyes on the Australian Guineas vs the Newmarket, where I thought he ran super down the straight in the Champions Sprint. Trialled up like a rocket in Sydney and is here to run very well.

8 Rich Dottie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality filly for Grahame Begg that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Nov 16 when midfield and producing an end of prep run in the Thoroughbred Club at Caulfield. Given a good break and her jumpout work suggests she is ready to go. Watch the market.

6 Reluctantlycharmed (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for Grahame Begg and commands respect off the back of a win three weeks ago at Flemington down the straight, giving them a start and a beating in a very strong performance. Good test here against likely types but think she runs very well.

11 Actuality (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. She was close up in defeat behind Reluctantlycharmed at Flemington three weeks back, settling off speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there. She was first up there so with room for improvement, she’s in the mix for sure.
