7/1/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

6 All Sassed Up (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a maiden but I think she has a bit on these. Price/Kent trained filly that resumes, having not raced since the St Albans at The Valley in the Autumn when a game second to Crosswinds. I reckon she will be much better as the distances increase, likely at 1400m, but her jumpout work has been impressive and she will be strong late whereas some of these will be getting the staggers.

2 Bistro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a speed demon that resumes for Team Freedman. They tried to stretch her out to 1100m in the early part of the Spring but there is enough body of work to suggest 1000m is her go in life, perhaps even the 955m at The Valley. Couple of jumpout wins to get ready for her return, she’ll jump and run and give plenty of cheek. Last bit will see her out but she’ll give a sight.

3 The Guava (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has run well at a decent level previously so I think he is in with a shout here. He ran behind She Dances a few weeks back and kept finding the line well enough from the back behind the filly, beaten just under four lengths. Hard fit now and back to a bending track, I think he’ll take beating against these, especially if he can settle closer in the run.

All things being equal, 2 Detonator Jack (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a bit on these and should win. Ran over the mile here a few weeks ago where he was back and chasing a decent speed but loved the way he knuckled down late in the piece to wear down an in form Pounding, who has won since. The rise to 1700m is ideal, hard fit and ability wise, with upside/progression, he has a bit on this lot.

4 Imperial Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and run well I am sure. He ran here on Boxing Day and attempted to lead throughout, giving a very solid kick and was looking the winner for a few strides, but was run down late by a very much in form Savannah Cloud. Has won at the mile and with a potentially soft lead on the cards, 1700m is fine and he’ll give a sight.

1 Dark Dream (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with relatively fresh legs, having not raced since late November when contesting the Zipping Classic when outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Vow And Declare. This tells me this is a prep run for something, potentially a trip to Tassie? I highly doubt he wins this, but can pinch a first four spot at a likely decent price.

9 Worsfold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is another example of Nick Ryan improving a tried horse. First run for the stable came at this track/distance where he was smashed late in betting and after getting a suck run under Shinn, he made a mess of them and was dominant in such an impressive return. You’d like to think there is natural improvement to come and should that eventuate, he’s the one they have to beat.

4 My Yankee Girl (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a coming winner. She shared the spoils with Invincible Caviar a few weeks ago at Flemington but the can of worms from Stewards was opened, they fired in a protest on whip use grounds and it was upheld, with the mare losing the race. That said, she attacked the line with real purpose and third up from a break, hard fit, she’ll take beating.

1 Lyrical Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality galloper for Phillip Stokes that resumes. He really came of age in the Winter and established himself as a Saturday class animal, albeit he does like genuine wet ground. Not sure he will get that here, but he has the runs on the board, has jumped out well and can sprint nicely on the fresh side. Watch the market.

8 Liberated Girl (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another chance. Peter Moody trained mare that ran over the mile last time out and I thought Nolen gave her a sore back, sitting wide no cover for the trip and gave the eventual winner the perfect drag up, getting run down late. She has come back in super order and this looks a very winnable Mares race. Just needs a half decent steer.

The Blinkers remaining off fascinates me with 4 So You See (Bet Now:  $SP.00) because I do think she is a Blinkers horse. Condition just gave way fresh behind Life Lessons before bumping into that mare again last time and she was a bit on the plain side despite not a great deal of luck in the straight. Third up from a spell, this is just about D-Day for her and see if she’s a contender or pretender.

3 Black Queen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare that resumes. She hasn’t raced since July 30 when producing an end of prep run over 2500m at The Valley behind Ferago. 1600m is short of her best, but she is a mare who can sprint well fresh and off her overall form, a forward showing is certainly on the cards in a race lacking serious overall depth.

5 Inundation (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have come back a different horse and I’d say a better horse. Market wanted him with confidence when resuming over 1000m at The Valley where he was on speed and absolutely trucking under J Kah. Just a matter of pushing the button and once that happened, away he went and he was dominant. Natural improvement, never mind holding that, he’s too good for these.

3 Najem Suhail (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a 1000m horse and here he is in a 1000m race. Has been kept on ice since Pakenham Cup Day when leading throughout with sustained speed under Blake Shinn and was too good. Take out Inundation and this is a pretty thin race so with his racing style, he will give a great sight. Just not sure he has the quality to fend off Inundation.

1 On The Lead (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing well without much luck. He’s been wide no cover his past couple and each time has bumped into I Am Me, who won the Canterbury Sprint on Sunday and looks destined for better races. On The Lead loves dry ground, he loves getting a suck run and finishing off strong. Hopefully gets that here and if there is petrol left in the tank, he appeals.

11 Micro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards last chance territory but this looks a winnable race. James Cummings trained four year old that was very good against the pattern fresh on the Kenso track behind Gundy Bridge before going to Flemington where he was no chance with the race shape and was held up in the straight so forget he went around behind He’s Xceptional. Hard fit now, J Kah on, he appeals.

Fitter and up to 1300m, I am giving respect to 9 Just Johnno (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Lindsey Smith trained gelding that resumed over 1200m a few weeks ago at Pakenham and I thought he closed his race off very well from the back when second to impressive winner Invincible Caviar. I reckon he might want 1600m, but the return was too good to ignore and 1300m second up looks an ideal recipe for success.

7 Netanyahu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in super order for Team Corstens and is hard to beat against these. Last couple of runs have come at Sandown, two back running second to a handy animal, Saint Of Katowice. He then raced a few weeks ago when on speed and showed good fight in the straight, only getting nabbed late by the unbeaten and very promising animal, Tasman Park. Suspect at the end of 1600m so like him back to 1300m and hard to knock the way he’s going.

Beware the unbeaten horse. Respect 3 Tasman Park (Bet Now:  $SP.00) big time. 3/3 to start his career, the latest win coming over the mile here a few weeks ago where he was there to be beaten but he kept finding under pressure and Mott lifted him late to win. Loses Mott and gets a 3kg apprentice, but Hannah Edgley is a jockey in form and has ridden well in town recently. Hard to beat.

7 Riverplate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong this time in for the Busuttin/Young camp. He ran over the mile at The Valley two weeks ago where he was near the speed throughout but was a bit one paced when asked but kept finding and was game in defeat when second to surprise winner Rambler Rebel. Like him back on the bigger track and gets D Oliver, so he has a bit going for him.

2 Glentaneous (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another look. Former UK stayer that made his Australian debut over this track/distance and didn’t do a great deal when down the track behind an in form Right You Are after seemingly getting every chance. Trialled/jumped out well enough prior to the first up run and this is a serious drop in depth, so he gets his chance to run an improved race.

14 Wahina Toa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and confident she can hold it. Cartwright has got a few wrong in recent days/weeks, but he got it spot on with this mare at The Valley two weeks ago. He got going early given she is a real one batter and in a testing 2500m, going early was perfect and she gapped her rivals in a dominant display. Hard to beat I’d suggest against this lot.

13 So Unusual (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Team McEvoy. He looked gone when racing over 2040m at The Valley last time out but once he balanced up in the straight, he savaged the line and got up on the peg for an outstanding win. The run prior at Sandown was good, he’s got good upside and should be better for the run last time out, and should be better suited up in trip.

8 Traduce (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to 2400m and off his best Queensland form, he is capable in a race like this. First run for the Moroney camp came over 2100m here and was just left flat footed when the sprint went on but he picked up and was good late behind Tycoon Bec. He has upside, he’ll be strong late and this stable is absolutely flying this season.

1 Unflinched (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. He resumed two weeks back at The Valley where he was leading alongside Inundation and tried his guts out but was simply no match for Inundation, who spanked them and was impressive, but Unflinched did stick on pretty well. His racing style is suited to Sandown and back miles in depth, he’s the one.

5 Winsum (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is certainly capable with his best. He had a four run Winter prep and didn’t really fire, but for the most part he was on wet ground, and he is a horse who loves racing on a firm deck. He is a horse who races best on the fresh side and looked very sharp in a recent Cranbourne jumpout. If the market suggests he is ready to go, I’d say have something on.

6 Larkham (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. Ryan Balfour trained gelding that ran at Morphettville on Boxing Day and tried his guts out from near the speed but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Queman. He is a short course specialist so 1000m here is ideal, a truly run 1000m, and with the claim for Rawiller, I think he will only run well.

BEST BET: Race Five Number 5 Inundation

NEXT BEST: Race Nine Number 1 Unflinched

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 11 Micro
