The Warrnambool Carnival continues on Wednesday, headlined by the Wangoom Handicap (1200m). The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:20) Warrnambool Gwm Hcp 1200m
To me, the horse that has had the best grounding for 1200m is 4 Magiconi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), who debuts for Matty Williams. I say that because his latest piece of work was a jumpout win at Camperdown, but it was over 1000m, as opposed to the majority here who have had an 800m jumpout/trial to prepare. Locally trained, prepped up, he’ll do me.
The Bool loves a street corner tip and the one for this race is clearly 2 Gamadale Paddy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), on debut for Tage Weir. Dirty Work colt that has had two jumpouts and hasn’t looked too bad each time he has stepped out so watch betting.
10 Endless Fury (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Brutal filly debuting for Peter Chow, a local trainer who loves to target the Carnival. She has had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for start one and hasn’t been too bad to my eye, so I say watch the market/yard and see what that will tell you as to whether she’s ready.
Race 2. (11:50) Bottle-O Warrnambool Mdn Plate 1700m
11 Vieux Riche (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is short enough but she should be putting this field away. She resumed at Geelong a few weeks ago and was really good from off the speed when third in a strong return. Tick over jumpout was solid and all things being equal, she just looks better than these.
3 Mufasa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1700m after resuming over the mile at Werribee. He got a fair way out of his ground and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat. Tricky draw but with luck, he should be around the mark.
2 Kovu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1700m after a solid effort over 1800m at Horsham. He had his chance and was held on the line but I thought didn’t disgrace himself in defeat. He’ll be strong late…I doubt he wins but can run first four.
Race 3. (12:20) Warrnambool Football Netball Club Mdn Plate 1700m
4 Kings Reflection (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the one to beat. Lot to like about his debut second at Swan Hill, settling off speed and worked home with real purpose in a good effort in defeat. Tick over jumpout at Terang was strong and the early market push says he’s well and truly here to play.
3 Fire Type (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but is an honest type for Symon Wilde. Last run saw him place over 1850m at Terang when near the speed and had his chance but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Lands near the front and only runs well.
2 Durham (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will be strong at the end of 1700m. Just depends what start he concedes because he got too far out of his ground over 1800m at Horsham last start and rocketed to the line when second. He’ll be dangerous if within range.
Race 4. (12:55) Victory Treadmills Dunroe Stpl (Bm120) 3450m
I think the market will flip here and 3 Golden Garden (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) starts favourite when the gates open. He’s flying for Symon Wilde, running a beauty behind Count Zero here two back before an eye catching effort at Horsham on the flat. Back over the jumps, will settle forward, loves getting his toe in. I’m quite keen on his chances.
1 Point Nepean (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up since a win over the Hurdles at Hamilton, leading throughout and had enough on the line but class came to the fore. Back over the bigger jumps, class factor, he commands respect.
5 Saint Eustace (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran last to Count Zero in the race mentioned above. His jumping wasn’t too crash hot and the rider was kind to him in the run to the line. Hit and miss but his best is more than good enough.
Race 5. (13:30) Tab Mdn Plate 1400m
9 Iskadeel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. Symon Wilde trained first starter that has had extensive jumpout work for start one, with two this time in. Likely will spot them a start but I think she’ll be quite strong at the end.
3 Le Beau Goose (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran over this trip at Ballarat several weeks ago when on speed snd seemed to have his chance but just lacked the killer blow. Freshened up with this Carnival in mind, he appeals.
5 Merry Jack (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) hadn’t shown much in his short career to date but ran a much improved race at Hamilton last start when off speed and worked home well when third. Like him back up, to 1400m, one for exotics.
Race 6. (14:05) Galleywood Hurdle 3200m
1 Highland Blaze (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be winning this. Very good jumper that has been excellent to my eye in two flat runs, which followed impressive trial work over the jumps. He’s flying and is clearly the one to beat.
6 The Storyteller (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the new kid on the block and stable is flying. Dominant win at Terang last start, jumping pretty well to my eye and won by a space. Good test here but think he can measure up.
2 Fabalot (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran second to Hit The Road Jack at Terang last start. He landed in a decent spot in the run and tried hard but just lacked the quality on testing ground to get there. He’ll be around the mark.
Race 7. (14:45) Sinclair Wilson (Bm70) 1400m
12 Boltsaver (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch but off the first up effort, he’s clearly going to take beating. He resumed at Caulfield when ridden with intent and tried hard but first up, condition just gave way. If he runs up to the return, he’s top seed for mine.
8 Enna’s Dream (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since resuming over 1200m at Caulfield when back in the run and was never a factor. Given the mines break, Blinkers on snd Nash to ride, there is lots of intent on paper.
5 Stay Silent (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after an all the way triumph over 1500m at Cranbourne, leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to score. He’ll look the winner for a fair chunk of the race.
Race 8. (15:20) Wangoom Hcp 1200m
9 Press Down (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a silly price for mine. He was super first up behind Verdoux at Flemington before going to The Discovery at Ballarat when four wide the trip and the hard run just told late. He likes getting his toe in, he’ll get a good drag across and for mine, only runs well.
14 Oliveanotherday (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a very promising galloper for Tom Dabernig. He’s putting together an impressive record, the latest win coming several weeks ago at Caulfield when sitting on speed and was trucking before being clicked up by Coffey and away he went to win and win well. Good racing style, he clearly appeals.
2 Corniche (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in the mix. I thought he ran super in the Hareeba at Mornington, closing well from the back behind Recon. If he can get a drag into the race, he’s dangerous.
Race 9. (16:00) Brolec Electrical (Bm66) 1000m
7 Conflict (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran well at Sandown last start behind stablemate Persian Caviar, chasing well from off speed but couldn’t quite finish the job. Tricky gate but commands respect.
8 Colour Our World (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and can certainly go on with it. Impressive winner at Geelong last week, sitting near the speed before being clicked up and she was strong to the line. Leading contender.
13 Cachink (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a knockout hope. Well held, but he did run third to Accidental Bid at Pakenham last start over this trip, and keep in mind that horse was going to be sub $3 in a Group l last Saturday, so the form reads well. Not dismissing.
Race 10. (16:30) The Whalers Hotel (Bm66) 2000m
7 Royal Emblem (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on suspicion is on top in the last. Import making his Aussie debut for Ciaron Maher off the back of four trials. OTI love to take the gift wrap off an import for this Carnival and this looks the one, so watch betting, but I say he’s here to play.
