Race 1. (12:23) Caloundra RSL Hcp (Bm70) 1200m
13 Fasvara (Bet Now:Β $7.00) commands respect for Kris Lees. He ran over this track/distance last start, getting into a decent spot just off speed and presented to win but just couldn’t quite get there. Tricky draw but commands respect.
19 Hellarious (Bet Now:Β $3.40) is a key chance for Team Sears. She comes back to 1200m after attempting to lead throughout over 1350m at Ipswich last start and gave a good account from the front but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Good racing style, a clear threat.
7 Sultry Siren (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is a Rob Heathcoate trained mare that resumes. She ran some tidy races when last in work but just couldn’t quite crack it for a win. Finds a winnable 70 to resume in and her trial work has been more than encouraging so watch the market.
Race 2. (12:58) Sherrin Rentals Qtis Hcp (Bm80) 1200m
17 Hurricane Lu (Bet Now:Β $15.00) steps up to 1200m after racing over 1110m at Doomben when just off speed and was bolting for a run. Unfortunately, Rodd zigged when he should have zagged and it ended up being a barrier trial. 1200m, bigger track, room to move, she takes beating.
6 Balance The Books (Bet Now:Β $2.60) is one of the hardest to beat. Was knocking on the door and smashed through it at fortnight back at Ipswich, letting down with good change up speed from off pace. She’ll be strong late, her confidence is up, leading contender.
4 Shot Of Whiskey (Bet Now:Β $16.00) lands on speed and takes beating after racing over this trip at Ipswich, landing near the front and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Balance The Books. Good racing style, he’s around the mark.
Race 3. (13:33) Access Insulation Bruce Mclachlan Classic Qtis Hcp 1000m
1 Itchintogo (Bet Now:Β $27.00) was a bit plain here a few weeks ago at this track/distance, sitting near the speed and was there to win but first run in a few weeks, condition just gave way late. Fitter, firmer deck, he can bounce back hard.
7 Lady Of Five (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a Team Hulbert trained filly that resumes. She was an early standout re QLD 2YO’s this season and was prepped for a Blue Diamond but didn’t quite get there. Given a good spell and her trial work has been strong. Leading chance.
3 On The Clock (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over 1050m at Mackay when near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there. He should be strong at the end and has versatility re racing style.
Race 4. (14:08) Maleny Hotel Dr Bernie Spilsbury 3yo Hcp 1000m
8 Hand In Hand (Bet Now:Β $41.00) is a former French galloper making her Aussie debut for Tony Gollan. She has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one down under and has been pretty good to the eye each time she has stepped out. Looks a good mover, keen to see how she goes.
9 Jimmy’s Brother (Bet Now:Β $3.90) should take beating here for David Vandyke. He resumes, his last run coming in the Magic Millions Guineas when down the track behind Torque To Be Sure. Looks to have trialled well for the return, watch betting.
5 Dragonne Rouge (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is a Shaun Dwyer trained filly that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since March 28 at Doomben when off speed and whacked late behind Tomba. Proven at the track/distance, her best is good enough, so watch betting.
Race 5. (14:47) Kevlacat Power Boats Open Plate 1000m
2 Steady Ready (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is the way I am going. He ran four weeks ago in the Lightning at Eagle Farm when leading and was hailed as the winner, but had no answers late for Monte Supreme. Ran well in this race last year and looks on track to repeat the dose.
14 Wanda Rox (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Lindsay Hatch, she now finds herself with Tony Gollan. She is a 1000m specialist that looks suited here and her trial work for the return has been quite sharp, so keen to see how she goes.
4 Scampi (Bet Now:Β $7.50) comes here with fresh legs for Ciaron Maher, having not raced since March 23 in the Chief De Beers when off speed and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Flying Destiny. He’ll be beaten for early speed but launch late.
Race 6. (15:23) Winx Guineas (G3) 1600m
The more I watch the replay of the Tatts Tiara, gee the run of 10 Within The Law (Bet Now:Β $2.70) was enormous. Was near impossible to come wide from the back and swoop to win. She did an incredible job to get as close as she did to Splash Back. If she’s within range, she’ll be too good.
11 Tupakara (Bet Now:Β $23.00) didn’t do a bad job in the Gunsynd three weeks ago. She got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never threatening, she was far from disgraced in defeat. She was six weeks between runs there so with room for upside/improvement, she is in the mix.
15 Tinklejazz (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes straight to Stakes grade after a maiden win first up over 1350m at Doomben where she made a proper mess of them and ran decent time. Thrown in the deep end here, but good upside, not entirely dismissing and is one for exotics.
Race 7. (16:02) Caloundra Cup (L) 2400m
I think 5 Thebudgiesmugla (Bet Now:Β $2.40) is a moral. I can mark him nearly odds on here. The majority look beaten up and are here as an afterthought, or simply isn’t good enough. Lot to like about the last start win at Rosehill where he won easily and did it without really being fair dinkum. He has lots more to give and I think will love getting to 2400m on a big track like the Sunny Coast.
1 Fawkner Park (Bet Now:Β $14.00) was a total forgive from the Tatts Cup last Saturday IMO. He was keen on speed and that took something away from his finale I thought. If he can relax in the run, prior efforts were good enough to take this out.
7 So You Are (Bet Now:Β $5.00) ran third to Thebudgiesmugla in the QEll Cup. He got into a decent spot just off speed and was there to win but lacked the killer blow and couldn’t quite get there. Racing well and should be around the mark.
Race 8. (16:45) Glasshouse Hcp (L) 1400m
21 Arabian Rose (Bet Now:Β $19.00) takes beating. Big win first up before going to the Hinkler three weeks ago. She got a fair way out of her ground but I liked the way she finished her race off in defeat. Should be at peak fitness and is one of the hardest to beat.
13 King Zephyr (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is several weeks between runs since racing in the Spear Chief. He got too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he was pretty good late. He’ll love getting back to 1400m, can settle closer and launch late.
11 Band Of Brothers (Bet Now:Β $9.50) was hailed as the winner of the Hinkler when he led and booted clear three weeks back, but he couldn’t quite see it through and was nabbed right on the peg by Midnight In Tokyo. Good racing style, he’ll be around the mark.
Race 9. (17:25) Height 4 Hire Hcp (Bm85) 1400m
Waddle your finger and hope for the best. That said, I do think 2 Bengal Diamond (Bet Now:Β $6.50) takes beating here. Think she found 1600m at Stakes grade a bit much last start when down the track. Fresh legs, back to benchmark grade and back to 1400m, she takes beating.
11 North Pole (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is a talented three year old for Kelly Schweida that resumed with a bang at the Gold Coast when giving them a start and a beating in a pretty impressive effort. Fitter and up to 1400m, he commands respect.
18 Social Outcast (Bet Now:Β $41.00) steps up to 1400m after resuming over 1200m at Ipswich two weeks back when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Balance The Books. Fitter, up in trip, good upside, he’s one for exotics.
