With Adelaide Cup being on Monday, the course proper gets a rest and it will be the Parks track at Morphettville that races this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.
Adelaide Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Adelaide Cup
Race 1. (13:06) Stuart Nunn's 70th Mdn Plate 1000m
I’m with 8 Divina Calle (Bet Now: $4.60) in the opener. As we know with the Parks track, on speed/rail is the spot to be and that is where this filly will be, who debuts for Kav off two Flemington jumpouts, each time sitting on speed and wasn’t knocked about both hitouts. Gate one, 3kg claim, I think she nearly should be favourite.
4 Three Kings (Bet Now: $2.25) looks to have his share of ability for the McEvoy camp. Visually, a very sharp trial win at Oakbank to get ready for start one. I just question the time he ran. It wasn’t great relative to the day and the opening trial was okay. Market will be fascinating with him and whether it likes him or not.
2 Jimmy’s Edge (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Gordon Richards trained juvenile that resumes. Made his debut back in November here on the course proper when doing a bit of work to sit on speed but was a beaten horse on the turn and dropped right out. Form out of that has been solid and liked his recent jumpout.
Race 2. (13:41) Dominant Mdn Plate 1000m
I’ll take a chance on 11 Zakheera (Bet Now: $7.00), resuming for the McEvoy. Had a poor start to her career back in the Autumn of last year, dumping the rider on debut before getting caught four and five wide for the trip. Been given a really good break and has trialled nicely in readiness. Think she’s ready to go.
2 Jonquest (Bet Now: $3.50) is a son of Rebel Raider for the McDonald/Gluyas camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since September 19 when a solid fourth in a maiden on the course proper here behind a talented type in Quietly Discreet. Liked his recent jumpout and should get a lovely run from the inside gate.
7 A Bit Racey (Bet Now: $7.50) is on the quick back up for Ryan Balfour after racing on Sunday at Balaklava. She had a suck run behind the speed and tried hard, but bumped into a pretty good one I feel in Spiriting. Run prior was good in what looked a solid maiden so she commands respect here.
Race 3. (14:16) Barossa Fine Foods (bm64) 1550m
Bludger of a race. Safe option is 6 Echo Boomer (Bet Now: $3.70), who is racing really well at the moment for Patrick Payne. She ran a fortnight back on the course proper when getting a suck run behind the speed and and looked the winner when the button was pressed. Just couldn’t quite finish off, nabbed late by Call Me Shamus. Hard to beat, especially with the claim.
9 Crown Harmonium (Bet Now: $5.00) is in a purple patch at the moment for John Hickmott and I think she can continue that with a win here. She ran over the mile on the course proper two weeks ago when back off the speed and working home strongly late when third to Unlaced. That form does appear to read well for a race like this.
1 Borris In Ossory (Bet Now: $27.00) can be a big improver here, especially if they let him roll on speed with the Blinkers back on. His recent form has been average, but he gets a proper senior rider in Stubby taking over the ride, he can roll forward and give a bold sight for his fans at big odds.
Race 4. (14:56) 36 Degree South Beef (bm72) 2400m
6 Night Passage (Bet Now: $1.95) is a query at a strong 2400m, but ability wise, she does look the best horse in the race quite clearly. Last couple of runs have come over 1800m, the latest coming at Sandown when a closing fourth to Larrikin. If she can run the trip out, think she’s the one to beat.
Fitter and up in trip I like for 4 Stan The Caddy (Bet Now: $3.90). He was five weeks between runs when racing over 1800m here two weeks ago and he was solid in defeat despite having every chance behind impressive winner Lord Vladivostok. Saves his best for the Parks track and has upside to come you would imagine.
8 Mr Coyne (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to be on a jumping path but the rise to 2400m will suit and down in the weights, he looks a knockout chance. Ran on Wednesday at Murray Bridge and worked to the line okay without threatening behind the in form Master Of Zerprise. Think he’s one for multiples.
Race 5. (15:36) Tab Adelaide Cup Day 8/3 (62) 1250m
Sticking with 4 Annika (Bet Now: $2.30) for Mick Huxtable. Was on her back when she raced on the Parks track last time out where she got complete control in front and 400m out, she was the only horse you wanted to be on. She gapped them and was impressive. Only has to repeat that here and she wins again.
6 Born To Play (Bet Now: $2.70) is a daughter of Redoute’s Choice for the McEvoy team that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since July 22 when breaking her maiden tag at Murray Bridge, a maiden which has turned out to be an ordinary form race overall, so that’s a query, but has trialled well and is in the right camp.
7 Malvado (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Hussonet for Ryan Balfour that resumes. Hasn’t raced since December 23 at Oakbank when wide no cover and sticking on pretty well in defeat behind Zoustorm. Can pull out a decent run fresh, has trialled well leading in and just needs to overcome the gate to be a contender.
Race 6. (16:16) Adelaide Galvanising (bm62) 1400m
2 Mr Raikkonen (Bet Now: $3.10) can bounce back here. Was on his back when he raced last Wednesday at Sandown and to the eye, he was plain, but looking at the race splits, those on speed were always going to be advantaged, and that race shape just doesn’t suit this horse. Luckless first up, so think he’s going well and can take this out.
4 Zoist (Bet Now: $3.90) is a son of Zoustar for the McEvoy camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since September 20 when bolting up at Murray Bridge over 1400m to break the maiden status in what is turning out to be a red hot form race, with seven winners to come from it. Recent Oakank trial was good and resuming at 1400m I like.
9 Enlist (Bet Now: $20.00) is on the quick back up for Matty Seyers after racing at Balaklava on Sunday where he was off the speed and chased strongly, but was clearly no match for impressive winner Casino Seventeen. That was his first run in nearly a month, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement.
Race 7. (16:56) Chapel Hill (bm78) 1400m
3 Territory Titan (Bet Now: $6.50) does his best racing from near the speed and is a tough nut to get past, so he commands some level of respect. Has been freshened up, having not raced since January 6 at Bordertown over 1550m when near the speed and battling away pretty well in defeat when third. Might need one more, but does have a liking for this track.
4 Jester Halo (Bet Now: $5.00) is getting on in years but is racing well. Ran last Saturday at Murray Bridge and I thought his effort was more than commendable after sitting back in a race dominated by those near the speed. He is bursting to win another race and gets another great chance here.
5 Diplomatic Measure (Bet Now: $7.00) can bounce back. Was okay fresh at Gawler behind Hankstar before racing on the course proper here four weeks ago when pressing forward and folding up badly behind Ritratto. She’s better than that and this race looks to carry far less depth, so a win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 8. (17:31) Furphy (bm60) 1400m
3 Arriva Diva (Bet Now: $2.70) has done a good job since arriving from the US. Has won two of her four outings on Aussie soil, the latest seeing her lead throughout and bolt up at Benalla, lumping 62kg and doing it quite easily it seemed. Keen to see how she goes at metro level in what looks a winnable race.
4 Neodium (Bet Now: $7.00) is third up now, hard fit and with weight relief, is a leading chance. He lumped 62kg when racing here just over two weeks ago and he tried hard. Just failed to finish it off with the big weight when fourth to Heavy Rotation. 61kg should be okay for him and is hard to beat.
2 Gougers (Bet Now: $3.60) is three weeks between runs for John Hyam since racing over this track/distance. He did plenty of work on speed to kick up and hold a forward spot. Was entitled to drop away but he kept finding and in the end, was nutted on the peg by Lord Vladivostok, who bolted up a week later, so the form reads well.
Race 9. (18:11) Rdc Partners (bm60) 1000m
Great to see 5 Appalachian (Bet Now: $5.50) back at the races. Talented gelding for David Jolly that resumes, having not raced since June 13 over this track/distance when again, he was luckless after getting back in the run and then badly held up when seemingly bolting. He’s got the engine under the hood. Just has an awful racing pattern. Good speed in front will see him get his chance.
If 1 Larkham (Bet Now: $2.05) can produce what he did two weeks ago when first up and winning, he’ll be winning here as well. Fast overall time when leading throughout and like he did on debut last prep, the change up speed was very sharp. Hopefully he can go on with it this time around and stamp himself as a quality animal.
2 Chucky (Bet Now: $16.00) should be forgiven for his failure behind Larkham two weeks ago. To the eye, he was pretty plain to the eye, but was found to be making a respiratory noise post race and he was found to be lame. First up run at Gawler was good enough to suggest he can run well here.
