A nine race card has been assembled for Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out a metre for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:23) Racecourse Village Hcp 1300m
5 Yangari (Bet Now: $7.00) should be suited up to 1300m for Rob Heathcoate. Both runs back from a spell have come over 1200m and he has raced like a horse that wants further. Latest run was two weeks ago and was good late when third to Mishani Enchanted. Think up in trip and hard fit, he’ll do me.
Like the way 4 Hinged (Bet Now: $4.20) has gone about it in both career outings. This filly is 2/2, bolting up on debut at Toowoomba before going to the Gold Coast where she got the verdict in the Stewards Room via a successful protest. 1300m should be no issue and overall, this race isn’t strong.
Back up in trip should suit 1 Mishani Delight (Bet Now: $6.00). Impressive winner over 1200m here two back before coming back to 1050m at Doomben and just found them a bit sharp behind Glorious Ruby. Like her back up to 1300m and can potentially control this race from the front.
Race 2. (13:58) Stradbroke Season On Sale-bm90 2406m
1 Humbolt Current (Bet Now: $3.10) tends to save his best for Queensland so now he’s back here, I’m in his corner. His last three runs have come at Stakes level, the latest coming at the Valley in the Torney Cup behind Starcaster. Mosh Music franked that form last Saturday so it reads very well for what looks a moderate 90 race.
It’ll be interesting to see if 2 Romakash (Bet Now: $4.40) can repeat the dose from a fortnight ago here. The ride from Larry Cassidy won the race. He was the only rider in the race to show initiative and in return, he won the race and was dominant on the line. Had been out of sorts prior to that but now he’s found form, he could well go on with it.
3 Raqeeq (Bet Now: $12.00) is certainly capable but I’m just not sure where he is at. He was pretty plain behind Romakash two weeks back but I don’t the stop/start set up was to his liking, so I’d be forgiving of that effort. He was only third up there, so he’s got room for improvement and stable wouldn’t persist if he wasn’t going any good.
Race 3. (14:37) Tab Venue Mode (bm72) 1000m
See no reason to get away from 1 Leadership Spill (Bet Now: $2.15). Backed as if unbeatable when resuming several weeks ago at Doomben and once he found the front with total control, it was race over and he was far too good in an impressive return. Doomben and Eagle Farm are two different beasts, but he should be fine.
5 Genzai The Wolf (Bet Now: $6.00) is four weeks between runs for David Murphy since racing over 1000m here. Once again, the start was costly for him. He was tardy away and forced to sit near last in the run. Sliced his way through the field and charged late when second to Tesarc. Racing well and can win with a better start.
If they overdo it in front, 6 Moscini (Bet Now: $18.00) can close in with purpose late. Has city class ability when right and can sprint well fresh. Only had two runs in the Spring, the latest in October at Doomben behind a really good horse in Skins. Bolted up to win a recent trial at the Sunny Coast, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 4. (15:17) Xxxx Dry (bm90) 1400m
6 She Za Boss (Bet Now: $1.65) looks to be flying for the Edmonds camp. The steers from Fradd in both runs back have been questionable at best. Very negative steers both times and has left the mare with far too much to do. Both runs have come at 1200m and is crying out for further, which she gets here.
1 Goodonya Sonja (Bet Now: $5.50) seems to race best in low pressure run races, and with no early speed engaged here, she could take up the running and control to suit herself. Had a dream run in transit two weeks ago at this track/distance behind a moderate tempo and was able to finish best. She’s hit and miss, but last start showed she is capable.
4 Akage (Bet Now: $26.00) has a decent record at Eagle Farm and can be an improver at odds. Five weeks between runs since racing in the Sunshine Coast Cup where she was back near last in the run and couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Emerald Kingdom. A win wouldn’t entirely shock with her given she has a booming finale on her day.
Race 5. (15:57) Sky Racing Hcp 1805m
2 Delayed Launch (Bet Now: $5.50) looks a progressive three year old for Ken Jones that I think can measure up to this lot. He has won his past two, breaking the maiden status emphatically at the Gold Coast over this trip before coming back to the mile on wet ground at Doomben and defying a significant betting drift to win again. Heading in the right direction and is a contender here for sure.
1 Cosmic Gossip (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing like she will eat up the 1800m. That looked the case when she bolted up two back on her home track at the Sunny Coast before remaining at the mile here two weeks ago and was good late behind Tycoon Evie. Crying out for further, which she gets, and the depth here is nowhere near as strong.
3 Calm Seeker (Bet Now: $11.00) should appreciate the rise in distance. Didn’t think he was too bad first up over 1400m before racing over the mile here and just got too far back in an on pace dominated affair. Has upside to come, more than most, and showed last prep he has the talent to measure up to a race like this.
Race 6. (16:37) Gallopers Sports Club (rs1mw) 1200m
3 Royal Hale (Bet Now: $4.60) is a son of Snitzel for Tony Gollan that resumes. Hasn’t raced since October 31 at Doomben when far from disgraced in a pretty strong race won by the then in form Beaufort Park. Two time first up winner and has had one trial to get ready, so watch the market with him.
2 Only Wanna Sing (Bet Now: $3.20) is an interesting runner. He comes from North Queensland for Jared Wehlow where he has simply been too good for them in both runs back from a break, the latest seeing him bolt up at Townsville in fast overall time. Keen to see how he measures up in town.
6 Perfect Aim (Bet Now: $13.00) is on the seven day back up for Pat Duff after racing at the Sunny Coast last Saturday in an open handicap where he was back near last in the run and never really a winning threat, but liked the way he finished his race off when fourth to Doctor Zous. Tends to save his best for the Sunny Coast but overall, is racing well this time in.
Race 7. (17:13) Cascade Plate (c6) 1805m
Good little test here for 8 Hallowed Girl (Bet Now: $4.00) but I feel she is up to it. Chris Anderson trained mare that ran over the mile here last Thursday when sitting back in a slowly run race but got an ideal drag up and once Larry Cassidy gave her clear air, she showed good change up speed and was much too good. Off that, 1800m should be fine.
5 Joymaker (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Kelly Schweida trained mare that is racing in good form at the moment. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she was given a lovely ride by Byrne and was there to win. Tried to wear down the heavily backed Oakfield Missile but couldn’t quite get past her. Fourth up now, hard fit and looks the one to beat.
3 Stardome (Bet Now: $13.00) should be suited up to 1800m for Chris Waller. Resumed over the mile at Doomben three weeks ago where he was near the speed throughout and battled away pretty well I thought when third to the in form Dissolution. Has a good record at Eagle Farm and up in trip is a tick.
Race 8. (17:52) Brc Girls Day Out March 20-c3 1400m
6 Wren’s Day (Bet Now: $2.20) does look to pick himself. Cody Morgan trained galloper that resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago and I thought Leah Kilner was far too negative on him. Left the gelding with a heap of work to do and that sustained run from around the 600m just told late when Ventura Ocean kicked back given he had the softer run in transit. Fitter, up in trip and a more positive steer, he wins this.
5 Rebel Salute (Bet Now: $5.50) is flying for the Guy camp and deserves a crack at Saturday grade. Lovely ride from Rodd saw him win quite well at Doomben on testing ground, using an inside gate to advantage. Lands a plum spot from the gate and gets in well after the claim.
9 Red Bloom (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Team Sears trained mare that is in a real purple patch at the moment. She has won her past two, both coming over 1350m at Ipswich, and each time she has really attacked the line when winning. Off those wins, 1400m here is fine and should land in a beaut spot just off the pace.
Race 9. (18:28) Mount Franklin Hcp 1400m
1 Georgie’s Pride (Bet Now: $2.45) looks the one to beat for Desleigh Forster. Put together a couple of strong wins to start the prep before going to Doomben a few weeks ago where she ran well, but clearly no match for a Stakes class filly I feel in Miami Fleiss. Back to Eagle Farm, with less depth, clearly the one to beat.
3 Tara Jasmine (Bet Now: $3.20) needs to keep her fitness levels up before the Country Championships Final but she does have a touch of quality about her to give this a shake. Just got too far out of her ground at Coffs Harbour but she closed off strongly at the end when second to Baileys. Hard to beat here.
Good little test here for 2 Linthorpe Lad (Bet Now: $18.00) but he is heading in the right direction. Kevin Kemp trained gelding that has won his past two, breaking the maiden tag two back at Toowoomba before going to Gatton where he bolted up in a small field. In a purple patch and on an upward spiral.
