Like 2 Johnny Angel (Bet Now: $3.60) in the opener. Aaron Purcell trained gelding that has had three runs at 1200m this prep, the latest coming at Caulfield three weeks ago where just off the speed and kept chasing, but was beaten by a good one I think in Real Gun. Think Williams will be positive, find the front and allow this guy to be hard to run down.

Danger

9 Tycoon Bucks (Bet Now: $2.20) is knocking on the door to break her maiden tag. To the eye, looked like she did when racing at this track/distance last time, but the photo went the way of the inside horse, Rising Sphere. If Jamie Kah can get her to settle closer in the run from a better draw, she’ll take some beating against this lot.

Long Shot

8 Nota Single Secret (Bet Now: $6.00) is the map horse given she has gate one and should use, likely holding leaders back. Few weeks between runs since placing in a Cranbourne where she tried hard, but overall, thought she had her chance. Form around her is suspect, but the map is kind for her and is a knockout winning hope.

Race 2. (16:15) Ive Print (bm64) 1200m

8 Sayumi (Bet Now: $3.60) deserves another chance. Matt Laurie trained mare that produced an electric finish to win fresh at Moonee Valley before racing there again where she was wide no cover for the trip yet loomed large to win on the turn. Just couldn’t quite get there when second to Sham I Am. Going well and is hard to beat.

Danger

Like Jamie Kah going aboard 4 Knowles (Bet Now: $4.20). This mare has the engine under the hood to win this but is a bit quirky in the sense she has a short, sharp burst, then paddles late, so timing will be everything when it comes to pushing the button, but she should get good three/four wide cover and launch at these late.

Long Shot

Very interested to see how 6 Toorak Warrior (Bet Now: $23.00) goes at this level. He found a pretty weak 58 race at Geelong last time out and under a confident steer from Matty Allen, the gelding jogged to the front at the top of the straight and won with alot of authority in decent time. Now his confidence is up, could well go on with it.

Race 3. (16:50) Clanbrooke Racing Hcp (c1) 1300m

3 Helavabel (Bet Now: $5.00) gets one last chance. Greg Eurell trained gelding that has showed good ability since day one but at times has let punters down. Nash had to go back from the wide gate when racing here last time out and pretty much lost all hope the way the track played, but his finale was more than sound behind Zoushack. Can settle much closer in the run from the draw and gets a jockey upgrade with Jamie Kah taking over.

Danger

Very keen to see how of 5 Duke Of Neworleans (Bet Now: $1.70) measures up. Not sure what to make of his debut win at Geelong, an eight length margin he put on the runner up. Did he handle the wet track best? Or is he above average. There is a bit of depth to this Class One so we’ll get a good guide here as to where he is at.

Long Shot

1 Vela (Bet Now: $46.00) is an interesting runner. Former French galloper for Grahame Begg that is having his second Australian prep. First prep yielded one run, which was at Pakenham and he failed to fire a shot. That was in April so he’s been given a good break to get ready for his return and his recent Mornington jumpout was encouraging.

Race 4. (17:25) Thoroughbred Club Hcp (c1) 1500m

Looks a race in two between the two likely front runners, Typhoon Harmony and Yukon. I’m leaning the way of 5 Yukon (Bet Now: $3.40). Makes his Victorian debut after a couple of runs at the Provincials in NSW, winning on debut at Wyong before going to Kembla when on speed and sticking on well in defeat when a close up third. Form out of that Kembla race has been really good and can see Williams sitting outside Typhoon Harmony, controlling the race and proving too good.

Danger

1 Typhoon Harmony (Bet Now: $2.80) does look well placed back to a Class One from a 64. Sat on speed last time out in a 64 here and fought on strongly. Just couldn’t hold out the strong finale produced by Part Time Lover. Should lead these up for fun from the inside gate and with the 3kg claim for Will Price, he is well in.

Long Shot

Think a rise in trip will suit 6 Gracias Amigo (Bet Now: $18.00). This gelding resumed three weeks back over 1200m at Caulfield where he was pretty much run off his legs throughout and couldn’t keep up in a disappointing resumption behind a future Stakes winner IMO in Impecunious. Like the extra ground for him and potentially can land box seat.

Race 5. (18:00) The Big Screen Company (bm64) 1600m

Back Me

The upside looks to be with 7 Intellective (Bet Now: $6.00). Matty Williams trained mare that resumed over 1400m at Terang where she did work from the gate to be on speed. Was entitled to drop away late, but she kept finding under pressure and in the end, she drew clear to win and win well. Think off that, she can measure up to these.

Danger

5 Prism (Bet Now: $4.60) is racing so honestly for the Hayes/Dabernig team and is bursting to win one. Kicked strongly enough to look like it would come at Caulfield last time, but she just had no answers for the finale of a pretty handy mare in Kurabui. This race, as a whole, is weaker, she’s hard fit and in form…deserving of a win.

Long Shot

4 Not Alone (Bet Now: $27.00) can be a big improver back on top of the ground. Looked in need of the run fresh at Donald before going to Geelong where the track was bottomless and she couldn’t pick her feet up so forget she went around there. Has a good third up record, so reckon she’s one to include in wider multiples.

Race 6. (18:30) Quayclean (bm70) 2100m

Jamie Kah can get the best out of bludger horses. Hoping that can be the case with 5 Meehni (Bet Now: $5.00). Team McEvoy trained mare that has placed in five of her past six, teasing to win on a number of occasions, but just hasn’t been able to go on with it. Form around her does read well and hoping the soft hands of Jamie Kah can be the difference.

Danger

8 Johandough (Bet Now: $4.60) is similar to Meehni. Racing well. Just not winning. Was a positive ride from Williams here last time out and she tried hard. But Laundy just had it way too good in front and was too good in the run to the line. Williams sticks with her and with another positive ride, think she can run well and go close.

Long Shot

2 Bergamont (Bet Now: $21.00) is getting out to a more ideal trip for her for the first time this prep so keen to see how she goes. Wasn’t too bad fresh over 1500m here before going to the Valley over the mile where she just found them a bit nippy. Now gets to 2000m+ and her form from NZ over that sort of ground does read well.

Race 7. (19:00) Ladbrokes Odds Boost (bm64) 2100m

Back Me

2 Sophie’s Revenge (Bet Now: $4.60), provided this track is playing fair, looks the best on the card IMO. She was flying without winning, with her barrier manners being an issue. That all changed last time out in the Penshurst Cup. She jumped clean, settled off the speed and from that point on, it was race over. She’s rated 75, but is in a 64 here and is only 5.5kg over the minimum, so she’s very well in.

Danger

4 Chaska (Bet Now: $3.60) has the Maher/Eustace polish and we know the record the stable has in these 2000m+ races. This guy gave them a spanking two back at Wodonga before going to Warrnambool where he found wet ground and stuck to the task well. I do feel he is better on top of the ground, which is conditions he should get here.

Long Shot

5 Darvin (Bet Now: $34.00) can run a cheeky race here. Resumed for his second Australian prep over 1700m at the Bool where he was wide throughout but credit to him, he stuck on and was good in defeat I thought in running fifth. With natural improvement from that run, and up in trip, he does appeal as a knockout chance.

Race 8. (19:30) Mrc Membership (bm70) 1400m

Bit of a throw at the stumps in the get out via 4 Arctic Shock (Bet Now: $5.00). She’s had two runs back from a break and has had clear excuses each time she has stepped out. No luck in getting clear fresh at Ballarat in a red hot form race won by Snapdancer. She then went to Pakenham when wide no cover throughout and she isn’t as effective on wet ground. Fresh legs, back a bit in depth, draws soft, Jamie Kah rides…has plenty going for her to bounce back.

Danger

8 Eluding (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented son of Toronado for the McEvoy camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since July 4 when placing in a strong Saturday metro race at Murray Bridge won by Elusive Rose. Two jumpouts to get ready have been more than encouraging, he draws well and does have a good turn of foot when cuddled and saved for the straight.

Long Shot

10 Sealed (Bet Now: $26.00) looks to be in for a good prep for the Grahame Begg team. Several weeks between runs since resuming down the straight at Flemington where she was back near last in the run and she made up good ground late behind Memphis Rock. She’ll get back and be strong late. Just depends what start she concedes.
