Racing returns to the Parks track this Saturday at Morphettville for a strong eight race card. The weather is overcast, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:56) Ken Bock Maiden Plate 1000m
6 Wallace Street (Bet Now: $3.00) on top in the opener. Son of Written Tycoon on debut for the Richard Jolly who has trialled twice leading in and both times has been good, the latest resulting in a slick win in good time. Scratched from an easier race on Wednesday for this could be a good lead.
3 Love Club (Bet Now: $4.20) is a gelding resuming for the O’Connor camp. He had two runs in the Autumn to kick off his career and didn’t really set the world on fire. Been given a decent break, trialled twice, both very good to the eye, and perhaps the lead here is that Holder sticks. Hard to beat.
8 M’Lady (Bet Now: $13.00) is a three year old filly having her first for Joe Lockyer. This girl has been given plenty of time to have her first start given she trialled earlier in the year before being tipped out. Trainer doesn’t have a big number stable wise, but he places his horses well and on debut in town is a good lead.
Race 2. (13:31) Dennis & Janet Small Handicap (75) 1250m
3 Gold Denari (Bet Now: $3.20) is a smart mare for the Kennewell camp who was an alarming drifter in betting when racing here a fortnight but nobody told her that as she savaged the line between runners to get the win and in good style. She has a stack of upside left and a fast run 1250m will again suit her.
4 Sudden Wealth (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Will Clarken trained mare who had been bursting to win a race for ages and it finally came two weeks back where when ridden a treat just off the pace. Peeled at the right time and she showed a lovely turn of foot to put them away quite comfortably. She can go right on with it here.
5 Patch Hero (Bet Now: $11.00) is a handy mare for the Francis/Grant team who comes through the Sudden Wealth race here a fortnight back. Got a fair way off them in the run and didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight but her effort was good behind the winner. Not sure she can turn the tables, but should run well regardless.
Race 3. (13:06) Jenny Bruskill Handicap (75) 1250m
4 Arkham Knight (Bet Now: $1.90) is on the seven day turnaround for the Macmillan stable after racing in the Lightning last Saturday where Gatt gave the then three year old a nice sit just off the pace and loomed large but no match for the Godolphin youngster Bandipur. Hasn’t done the quick back up before but he gives the impression of being a tough galloper so I don’t think it will be an issue.
1 Counter Spin (Bet Now: $6.00) is a very tough customer for the Macdonald/Gluyas team who is an absolute swimmer so the heavy track is ideal. Ran over the 1400m here three weeks back and did a really good job in defeat behind Balf’s Choice, who franked the form last Saturday. The claim for Raquel Clark is a big tick and draws a sweet gate.
5 Artie Fred (Bet Now: $6.00) was a surprise winner two back at Moe, aided by a nice ride from Jake Noonan, before going to Sandown where he was well backed and wasn’t far away from Hunting Hill. Goes really well when sent to SA and Jamie Kah, the leading rider here, steers. Knockout chance in the small field.
Race 4. (14:41) Roger Shinnick Handicap (82) 1400m
Taking the chance on 8 Brown Ben (Bet Now: $8.50). Very talented galloper that resumes for the Tony McEvoy camp. He failed to fire a shot in four runs during the Autumn/early Winter and was tipped out after a poor effort at Ballarat. Trialled up brilliantly last week at Murray Bridge and appears back to his Spring/Summer form where he was competitive in Melbourne.
4 Spiritof Endeavour (Bet Now: $5.50) isn’t the most genuine horse going around in terms of attacking the line but he is consistent and isn’t far away. Got a well deserved win over 1550m here two weeks back when ridden an absolute treat by Jamie Kah and though the win was narrow, it was sharp. Back to 1400m should be ideal.
5 So Does He (Bet Now: $13.00) is a horse getting close to win for the Shawn Mathrick camp and he does find a good race here. Ran over 1300m on a sloppy Bendigo track last time out and worked home with purpose late behind all the way winner Oscar’s My Mate Pa. Looking for further, which he gets, and Lindop steers. Ticks a few boxes.
Race 5. (15:21) Justin O'Leary Memorial Handicap (82) 1950m
3 Alamonteel (Bet Now: $2.40) stuck to the task gamely two back behind Dulverton at Sandown before going to this track/distance a fortnight back where Raquel Clark rode the mare with arrogance and she won accordingly, spanking them. No reason to see why she can’t do a repeat job on this lot.
10 BIrds Of Tokyo (Bet Now: $9.00) could well start favourite here with the wet track. She is one of the best swimmers in the business and will be one of the hardest to beat here. She ran over 2100m at Sandown last time out and was a bit disappointing I thought behind Ashlee Marie. Back to 1950m and back in depth suits.
8 Raise A Dream (Bet Now: $26.00) is a mare racing in super form at the moment for the Grant Young team. She ran over the mile at Murray Bridge last Wednesday and she absolutely bolted in under Victor Wong, leading all the way and winning by over four lengths. 1950m is the pain barrier maybe, but she looks the leader and we know that leaders on this track are advantaged.
Race 6. (16.01) Jockey Celebration Day Handicap 1000m
7 One More Daisy (Bet Now: $9.50) gets the nod for me in a tricky sprint race with several winning chances. This mare ran over this track/distance two weeks back where she did a bit of work in the run and looked beat early on, but lifted late and surged to win, and in the end was impressive. She can handle the rise in depth here.
1 Husson Eagle (Bet Now: $3.50) will be hoping for sunny weather because he is a dud when the toe gets in. He is the class runner and the one to beat. Good effort I thought in the Sprint Final down the straight at Flemington behind Ability. This is a big drop down for him, and if we got a firm track, he’d be a moral. Soft track brings him back big time.
5 Cashed (Bet Now: $6.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over 1050m on the course proper last Saturday where he attempted to lead all the way under Brandon Griffiths and he gave a good kick but was nabbed late by the well backed Barood. Goes well on the Parks, small field suits and gets Jamie Kah steering.
Race 7. (16:41) Nathan Horne Handicap (70) 1000m
Hard to ignore what 5 Enzo The Barber (Bet Now: $3.60) did here when resuming two weeks back. Wasn’t really expected given he was $9-$12 in the market but he came with a brilliant finishing burst from the back between runners to get the win. He is a second up winner and off that run, how can you not include him.
1 Classy Jack (Bet Now: $5.50) comes through the Enzo The Barber race here two weeks ago and gee his effort was good. Had the 59.5kg, covered a stack of ground and was still there at the finish. Gets really good weight relief here, maps superbly and this time in, he does seem much more genuine.
7 Ahead Of Time (Bet Now: $10.00) is a nippy customer who should lead here and give some cheek. She attempted to lead all the way in the Enzo The Barber race mentioned above and kicked strongly but just tired late when running sixth, beaten over two lengths. Gets really good weight relief here, looks the leader and will be a knockout chance.
Race 8. (17:17) Paul & Carole Maslin Handicap (64) 1400m
6 Game Of War (Bet Now: $4.20) on top but with not a great deal of confidence in a very tricky race. This gelding ran over 1250m here a fortnight back and did a very good job from the back I feel, working home with purpose to be not far off stablemate Gold Denari. Not as much depth and does strike a winnable race.
9 Mica Be The One (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained mare who resumed in the Gold Denari race here two weeks ago and her effort was strong. Covered ground throughout, was off the bit on the turn and looked to be going nowhere but she stuck on really well in defeat. Goes well second up and likes this track.
14 Pierremont (Bet Now: $61.00) is an interesting runner. Resumes for the Balfour camp after an okay prep during the Winter/Spring, with a win at Bordertown on a heavy track the highlight. Hasn’t done much in two trials, but he is a swimmer, he goes okay fresh and Thornton is booked to ride.
