Coffs Harbour Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Coffs Harbour Cup
Race 1. (12:20) Ooh Media Plate 1200m
3 Rule Of Salex (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in Bjorn Baker trained three year old that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials, the latest over 1200m at Warwick Farm when attempting to lead throughout and was run down late by Cicada, who ran well on debut on Wednesday, so the form reads well, and there is just nothing to this race.
4 Talma I Love Her (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. He was specked at odds when attempting to lead throughout at this track/distance and gave a strong kick from the front but was run down late by Invincible Alf in a blanket finish. The end is the knock but good racing style and Zac Wadick sits behind Bullock IMO as the go to rider on the North Coast.
6 Erelle (Bet Now: $SP.00) is having start three so she should know what the caper is about. She comes through the Springboard during the Grafton Carnival where she got back in the small field and did make ground without threatening behind Invincible Alf. If she jumps clean, she can lob into a beaut spot and the depth here is very much on the thin side.
Race 2. (12:55) Grant Bastian Memorial (Bm74) 1000m
This looks a lovely kick off point for 11 Soju Session (Bet Now: $SP.00). Formerly with Busuttin/Young, she finds herself with John Sprague. Her recent efforts in Victoria have come on wet ground and she just hasn’t picked her feet up. Firmer footing is her go in life, she maps to land on speed and down in the weights…her best form sees her win this. Hopefully the market gravitates towards her.
2 Debussy (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be hit and miss but his best is good enough to take this out, as seen during the Grafton Carnival where he was able to lob into a beaut spot behind the speed before Bullock found clear air, drove through and was too good. Has run well at Coffs before and off a win, I think he commands respect.
1 Alpha Go (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds. He resumed in the Debussy race mentioned above where he was kept safe in betting but didn’t really fire despite a decent run in transit and was a bit on the plain side. Good second up record and with significant weight relief, a win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 3. (13:35) O'brien Plumbing &Relining Mdn 1300m
7 Scotland (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win a maiden and I think he gets his chance. I was on him when racing over 1400m here last time. He was very good in defeat. Just got too far back in the run but his late splits was excellent when third, beaten three lengths. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and with home track advantage, happy to be in his corner.
4 La Cache A Vin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a similar vain to Scotland. Racing well without winning. He ran second in the maiden mentioned above. He had more of a chance than Scotland I thought given he landed the 1/1 and presented to win in the straight but couldn’t quite get there when beaten 2.7L by West Cork. Racing well, maps ideally once again and should be around the mark.
12 Mumma Sue (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the interesting one. Home track horse so the market will be fascinating. It was fascinating with her when resuming over 1000m here where she was $4.80 to $15 and ran accordingly, beating one home and was near eight lengths from the winner. Gets a rise in trip and maps to settle just off the speed. Watch the market and see what it does.
Race 4. (14:10) Cetnaj Country Magic Hcp (C2) 1600m
Open race IMO but I don’t see why 6 Proud With Pride (Bet Now: $SP.00) can’t win again. She has been kept on ice since the Grafton Carnival when giving them a start and a beating, sitting back and launching late to finish over the top for a big win. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and the way she found the line, 1600m should be no issue. Hard to beat.
1 Passionate Rebel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well for Paul Shailer and is the key threat. He put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce before going to this track/distance where he wasn’t as dynamic and just fair in defeat behind Agirlsbestfriend. Jury is out as to what upside is left, but off the two wins, he’s good enough to take this out.
5 Listen To Maurice (Bet Now: $SP.00) has good upside to come and off the return is a key chance. He resumed over 1400m at Grafton in the Proud With Pride race mentioned above. He was there to win the race when looming but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece. Better for the run under the belt, he is certainly in the mix.
Race 5. (14:50) Toormina Htl Ken Howard Hcp 2000m
6 Roller Coaster (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the best on the program. Paul Shailer trained gelding that ran last week at Newcastle and he was one of the better runs of the meeting, closing off strongly in a 1890m race when second to the very much in form Knights Armour. The way he is racing, he’ll eat up 2000m here and in a pretty thin race…good luck beating him.
3 Socrates (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the city form around him to command some level of respect. His recent racing has come at the midweeks at Warwick Farm, the latest seeing finish down the track behind Venetian Blue. He just isn’t quite measuring up in town so dropping back to this level, he appeals big time, especially back to 2000m.
7 Spoke To Rajiv (Bet Now: $SP.00) brings Sydney form as well so he is in with a shout. He won two back on Ramornie Day at Grafton before going to Rosehill where they rode him completely upside down and was a beaten horse 600m out when last behind Kirkeby. Back to this level and a more patient steer, he can run an improved race.
Race 6. (15:25) Fm Glenn Daniel Baker Sprint 1200m
1 Greyworm (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket here. He hasn’t won since Moses parted the sea but he won’t know himself in a race as weak as this. He ran in the James Kirby on Grafton Cup Day when near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Bel Academy. He gets in very well after the claim for Scorse and he has shown he can ride a leader quite well. He’ll do me.
4 French Marine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Epaulette for Kris Lees that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since January 28 at Rosehill when running last but beaten just two lengths by Think About It, and we know what he did afterwards. Has trialled well leading in to get ready for his return. Tricky gate, but has a touch of quality about him.
11 Aheadofhistime (Bet Now: $SP.00) saves his best for this track/distance and has run well in this race previously. He ran in the Preview to this, the Trevor Hardy, and actually wasn’t too bad between runners when closing off behind Kosciuszko. Maps to do no work and while I doubt he wins, he can pinch a first four spot.
Race 7. (16:05) Coffs Harbour Cup 1600m
5 Acquitted (Bet Now: $SP.00) looked hard to beat in the Winter Challenge a couple of weeks ago but was scratched to be kept on ice for this. He ran in the Winter Stakes several weeks back and I think you can easily make a case to say that he wins the race if he he gets clear air throughout, only getting out late and warming to the task with purpose when second to Ucalledit. If the breaks go his way, he will take beating, and for mine is a crazy price.
11 Stonecoat (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be respected, purely because of the stable. GaiBott are absolutely flying at the moment and this horse is flying as well. He ran last Saturday at Randwick when on speed and fought on strongly, just proving no match late for Tazaral. Lands on speed, down in the weights and will clearly take running down.
3 Hail Manhattan (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a horse I am not penning…yet. He was well specked at odds when resuming a few weeks back over 1400m at Eagle Farm. He got a suck run from the inside gate and while he lacked the turn of foot in the straight, he stayed on and was more than sound in defeat behind Blaze A Trail. Better set up this time around to run a much improved race.
Race 8. (16:45) Rob Young Memorial Hcp (C3) 1200m
Huge market watch on 16 Redsnap (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumes for John Smerdon. He was formerly based at Mornington with Brett Scott but is now in the Sunshine State. He trialled at Beaudesert in April and looked sharp when winning. Spelled, and trialled early last month at Doomben when behind the speed and seemingly moved well. This stable can get them to fire off a long break. If there is any hint of a market push, I’d be betting with a degree of confidence.
2 Convincebility (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but it’s hard to knock his win last start at Taree. He produced sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in, leading throughout and spanking his rivals in solid time. The gate does makes things tricky but if he gets across, he’ll take running down.
9 Heir Apparent (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. I’d be forgiving of the run at Taree last time in the race mentioned above given he was wide no cover throughout and that hard run just told late in the piece but he actually didn’t do a bad job to run fourth. Dangerous if he gets a more economical run in transit.
