Coffs Harbour Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Coffs Harbour Cup

Race 1. (12:15) Driscoll's Aust K Howard-Bm76 2000m
Not a race I want to get involved in but for the sake of a tip, on top is 3 One For Betty (Bet Now: $4.80). Cav has a couple for this race but I feel this one has the upside. She ran in the Mother’s Gift (1400m) on Grafton Cup Day and was good from the back behind Glamour Fox, clocking good late splits. Jumps from 1400m straight to 2000m, but they don’t look like they will go hard, and I think she has the turn of foot to beat them.
6 Lord Tropicana (Bet Now: $5.00) is the one to beat if this becomes survival of the fittest because he is a dead set stayer that will just keep batting away. He hasn’t raced since June 9 at Gosford when down the track behind Funambulist. He’ll love the drop in depth and will be strong late.
1 Ambitious Prince (Bet Now: $5.50) has home track advantage and has run well in this race previously. Game second at this track/distance two back behind Bold Contender before going back to 1400m at Grafton where he got back and failed to fire. Back up in trip and back on the home deck, expect improvement.
Race 2. (12:50) Ooh Media Plate 1200m
7 Moonlight Grace (Bet Now: $2.45) looks the winner on form. This filly has had two career outings, debuting with a strong third at Gosford before racing last Wednesday at Warwick Farm where she copped a bad bump halfway down the straight which took the stuffing out of her. Warwick Farm back to Coffs Harbour…surely she wins.
2 Crop Duster (Bet Now: $5.00) is heading in the right direction for Jeremy Gask. His late splits weren’t too bad from the back on debut at Muswellbrook before going to Wellington where he was ridden more positively and the end result was a strong win. The form though is suspect with the runner up going a stinker at Forbes on Monday. But, I do respect this stable and this gelding does look an improver.
5 Stoinka (Bet Now: $17.00) would be a moral in a maiden at Lismore/Murwillumbah etc, so it’s interesting they come here. Ran over 1200m in a Grafton maiden last time and was very good from the back, producing the best last 200m of the meeting. Not sure he wins, but he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 3. (13:25) Cetnaj Country Mdn Plate 1300m
14 Olakau’atu (Bet Now: $4.00) has home track advantage and brings with him some decent form from two career outings. Debuted here and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Fire Up Bruce. He then went to the 2YO race at Grafton and was solid in defeat behind Fashion Legend. I think they’ll slide forward on him and try to win from near the front.
13 Zouhaven (Bet Now: $9.00) is one for wider multiples. Hadn’t done much in her first two runs back from a spell but she bounced back into positive form last time at Grafton where she had the suck run behind the speed and battled away well for third. Track pattern assisted that last run I think, so that’s the knock, but a claim and soft gate ensures her as some sort of threat.
8 Gucci Sliders (Bet Now: $26.00) is on the quick back up for Colt Prosser after racing at Port Macquarie on Monday where she contested a 1500m maiden and was far from disgraced in defeat behind impressive winner Oakfield Redgum. Back to 1300m is fine, she’ll be strong late and maps to do no work.
Race 4. (14:05) Nuflow Ctry Magic M Mercer-C2 1600m
3 Mariinsky (Bet Now: $13.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at odds. Ran over 1400m during the Grafton Carnival where he was actually quite good against the track pattern, closing off from the back when third to Kokoro. If the inside gate is used to advantage, I think he’ll take beating, and you’re getting double figures, so he’s an each way bet for sure.
2 Kapsali (Bet Now: $5.50) is one with upside and has a good racing style. Did work to sit on speed fresh at Grafton and tired late behind Yulong Monoceros. He then went to Taree where he found a bottomless track and struggled to pick his feet up. Back on firmer footing, home track and upside, he’s in the mix.
7 Rapids (Bet Now: $21.00) is a first four threat. I’d be forgiving of his last start effort at Grafton given he was wide no cover for the trip and the effort just told late when down the track behind Geostorm. If he gets luck from the tricky gate, I think he’s good enough to threaten.
Race 5. (14:40) Toormina Hotel Hcp (C3) 1200m
This looks a clear target race for 4 Invictus Felix (Bet Now: $7.00). He’s had a couple of prep runs for this, firstly at Grafton when down the track. He then raced over this track/distance on June 26 and was very good from the back. Was down to run on the Sawtell Cup meeting here a couple of weeks ago but it was washed out. Kept on ice for this and stable finds Hugh Bowman. Surprised if he doesn’t start favourite.
10 Moskeeta (Bet Now: $5.50) is heading in the right direction for Cathleen Rode. Showed good change up speed to break the maiden tag at Grafton, wearing down a talented horse in Wakatipu. She’s the one with good upside and progression, and should lob into a lovely spot from the gate.
8 My Girona (Bet Now: $8.50) should be suited back on firmer footing. Dominant win two back at Grafton before going to Taree where she found a Heavy10, got keen in the run and jsut couldn’t finish the race off. Back on firmer footing, if she can relax in the run, I think she’ll be dangerous.
Race 6. (15:20) Toyota Daniel Baker (Bm89) 1200m
6 Leave Me Some (Bet Now: $14.00) is a great each way gamble for mine. Grant Marshall trained mare that resumed on the Kenso track, where Pike gave her zero chance with the ride and her run was a total forgive when down the track. Trialled up well prior to that and with good speed in front here, I can see her sitting back and launching late.
8 Affinity Beyond (Bet Now: $8.00) only knows one way to run so if you back her, you’ll get a good sight for your coin. She struggled on the testing track on the Kenso last time and struggled to pick her feet up late. Back on firmer footing, she looks the likely leader and will give a sight.
11 The Drake (Bet Now: $16.00) is suited up to 1200m and brings strong form lines. Ran in the John Kirby at Grafton last time where he was back near last in the run and failed to come on when down the track behind Ice In Vancouver. 2/3 at the Coffs Harbour 1200m and gets in well after the claim.
Race 7. (15:55) Coffs Harbour Cup 1600m
5 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $10.00) is the best gamble on the program, purely at the odds. He ran in the South Grafton Cup and had no chance the way the race panned out, as well as how the track played, when fifth to Surf Dancer, but did clock the best late splits of the meeting. More positive steer here, I think he’ll only run well.
4 Hosier (Bet Now: $2.35) could easily blow this field away and then blow them away in The Big Dance. Very good animal that his first run for Kris Lees and really, his form reads far superior to any of this lot, plus his trial win was sharp. The knock is the price. $2.20/thereabouts is on the skinny side. He can win, blow them away, but I’d want $3+.
2 Monegal (Bet Now: $18.00) is on the quick back up for Theresa Bateup after racing in the Winter Challenge on Saturday. She did a good job in a stop/start race behind a potential Epsom contender in Cross Talk. Saves her best for the mile and she does seem to race well on the back up.
Race 8. (16:35) Fm Glenn Constructions (Bm66) 1000m
I’m going to take a guess and speck 2 Kamien (Bet Now: $21.00) at a price. Formerly with Peter Gelagotis, he now finds himself with John Smerdon. You look at his form when he was racing in Victoria, it just reads so well for this. But, it was over slightly further, so whether this is a trial for something else (no public trial), not sure. But I do know this stable can get them to fire fresh, so watch the market and see if it says he’s ready to go.
3 Baikya (Bet Now: $3.80) is one of the hardest to beat. He got a peach from Bowman to win on Grafton Cup Day, driving hard late from off the speed to finish best. That was her first run in 11 weeks so you’d like to think there is good upside and a good lead that Bowman sticks.
1 Hauraki Gulf (Bet Now: $9.50) is suspect at the end of 1000m but has home track advantage and gets in well after the claim. He ran over 800m at Ipswich last time and tried his guts out when second to Commandeering. If he gets a cheap run in transit, I think the five furlongs will be okay, plus he’s hard fit and in form.
