Public Holiday racing in Sydney on Monday heads to Warwick Farm. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:25) Bowermans Commercial Furniture Plate 1400m
1 Castlereagh Kid (Bet Now:Β $5.00) on top in the opener. WaterBott trained colt that was unwanted in betting when debuting at Newcastle but you could make a case to say he should have won. Was behind the speed and a bit one paced but once he got clear air, he charged late to just miss. Nash, I would assume, sends him to the front and he’ll take beating.
9 Hoover Lucy (Bet Now:Β $1.70) has the best form of this lot. She has had a few chances to break the maiden tag though. I thought she was there to put them away at Gosford last time but she didn’t go on with it when a narrow second. Her maiden will come soon. Could I take odds on here? No.
6 Semeco (Bet Now:Β $15.00) is the hard fit horse who draws soft. He was all over a winner at Nowra over the mile last start but the last 50-75m, he got the staggers and was nabbed on the peg. He lacks the quality of some of these, but hard fit, racing well, he’s a first four threat.
Race 2. (14:00) The Agency Real Estate Handicap (72) 2110m
Short but sweet for 3 Dhakuri (Bet Now:Β $1.95) I think. He’s a progressive animal for James Cummings that spanked them over 1800m at Newcastle on Cup Day there, landing big bets in the process. He was only second up there and a few weeks between runs, so you’d like to think there is improvement to come and up in trip, he’s clearly the one to beat.
2 Our Bambino (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is flying I feel. His two Midway runs were full of merit before going to Gosford where I don’t think the track suited him at all, but was good late despite beating just one runner home. He’s racing well, bursting to win one. Not sure it’s here, but runs a positive race.
5 Clem Fandango (Bet Now:Β $9.50) deserves a crack in town for Matty Dale. Notable betting drifter last time out at Orange on testing ground but it mattered not to him as he bolted up under Collett, who remains on for this race. I doubt he’s good enough to beat Dhakuri, but a first four threat.
Race 3. (14:35) Vinery Handicap (68) 1100m
I’m with 6 Speech (Bet Now:Β $2.30). James Cummings trained filly that was backed with confidence when debuting over 900m at Newcastle and the bets were landed, with the daughter of Lonhro giving them a proper spanking. Quiet tick over trial to keep her up to the mark, but I think she’s exciting and could head down to Melbourne for some blacktype.
4 Battleton (Bet Now:Β $4.40) wasn’t a clock smasher when a debut winner at Wyong but to the eye, he looked to have a bit of quality. Settled near the back of the small field and took a while to get into his work, but gee he was impressive at the business end. Home track advantage, he commands respect.
3 Hammoon Star (Bet Now:Β $10.00) has done little wrong this time in for Kris Lees. Won the opening two runs of the prep in impressive fashion before going to Coffs Harbour when off the speed and chasing strongly when second behind stablemate Ciccina, who has won since. Harder here, but in form.
Race 4. (15:10) Cactus Imaging Handicap (72) 1400m
6 Onedayclosertoyou (Bet Now:Β $2.90) gets the nod. Well bred mare for Chris Waller that has done a good job this time in, leading throughout and spanking them at Newcastle last time out, continuing a strong prep for this girl. Gets J Mac steering, lands on speed and will be hard to get past.
1 Think Free (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is the class runner of the field and that will carry her a long way. Thrown in the deep end in the Tibbie last time and found the class a bit rich, but was far from disgraced behind Madam Legend. 1/1 at the track and back to 72 grade, she’ll be a leading contender.
5 Atonement (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a handy staying mare for Matty Smith that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since The Roses at Doomben when leading and dropping out, finishing tailed off last. Better suited over further, but has trialled well leading, so watch the market.
Race 5. (15:45) TAB Handicap (72) 1600m
6 Ma And Pa (Bet Now:Β $2.35) is a beautifully bred gelding for Chris Waller that is starting to put it together this time in. Nash got the best out of him to win at Wyong last time. He was there to be run down but found and lifted late when it counted. The runner up has bolted in since, he’ll lead and prove hard to get past.
2 So United (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is a WaterBott gelding who has returned in good order. Both runs this prep have come at Gosford, winning first up before a game third from near the speed behind Shibli. Hard fit now, should land near the front and run a bold race.
7 Alvin The Bold (Bet Now:Β $6.50) will run his usual honest race. Doesn’t have gears, but stays on and is a tough customer, as we have seen pretty much throughout his career. On speed throughout at Hawkesbury last time but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second. Not sure he wins, but a definite first four threat.
Race 6. (16:20) Precise Air Handicap (78) 1400m
7 Suave (Bet Now:Β $1.95) looks the one to beat for James Cummings. Resumed a tick over two weeks ago at Randwick and didn’t disgrace himself at all behind High Supremacy in what I think will turn out to be a good form race. Drops a fair bit in depth, fitter, gate one, J Mac…all points to him.
1 Soami (Bet Now:Β $3.00) doesn’t have the upside of some of these, but is racing well for Matty Dunn. He comes through the High Supremacy mentioned above where he attempted to lead throughout and tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off. He’s better with a sit, so hopefully that eventuates here.
3 Lord Ardmore (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut for Chris Waller. I think 2000m+ is when he will come into his own so he might need this run, but he’s had two trials to get ready for his Australian debut and should be strong at the end.
Race 7. (16:55) Ranvet Handicap 1000m
The map just reads super for 3 Enchanted Heart (Bet Now:Β $6.50) so I’ll go her way. She resumes after a pretty busy Autumn/Winter, which saw her win a couple of races, including first up when beating Everest contender Lost And Running. She should park off a strong speed here and be strong at the end.
4 Marway (Bet Now:Β $3.50) can handle a wet track, but I do feel he is much better on top of the ground. Resumed behind Triple Ace two weeks back and tried hard, but couldn’t quite quicken on the shifty ground. If this track was bone dry, he’d be a clear top pick. He’ll run well with give in the track, but not as effective, so the weather will determine his chances.
1 Special Reward (Bet Now:Β $17.00) has a class edge on these and if he’s ready to go, he can take this out. Hasn’t raced since the Brisbane Winter where he didn’t handle Eagle Farm it seemed behind Baller. Good fresh horse and I’ve loved the way he has trialled to get ready. Market watch for sure.
Race 8. (17:30) XXXX Handicap (72) 1200m
I don’t know what to do here. Wide open race to close out the meeting. 12 Patrolling (Bet Now:Β $6.00) has home track advantage and Tim Clark steering this on pacer, so that’s an ideal recipe. Backed with confidence last time out at Newcastle when on speed throughout and gave a really good kick, but was run down late by Sammy, a progressive animal. He has the speed to lead this field and take beating.
2 Newsreader (Bet Now:Β $4.00) is a John O’Shea trained mare that resumes. She has always looked the part at the trials, but race day has been a different story. I will say that though that she saves her best for when she finds dry ground, so you’ll be hoping the deck is firm for her, and Laura Lafferty has had success with John O’Shea in the past via Intrepidacious.
6 Atlantic King (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a handy gelding resuming for Matty Dunn. He hasn’t raced since December 23 over the mile here when close up behind Foxborough on wet ground. He teased to win races last prep but couldn’t go on with it. His form does read well and has trialled up nicely.
