Nine races are set to be run and won this Saturday at Belmont, with most runners from the washed out meeting last week running here. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (14:04) : Little Creatures Maiden 1400m:
Back Me: 7 Lone Sailor (Bet Now: $4.50) debuted over this track/distance a couple of Wednesdays back and gee he was a real eye catcher late, working home strongly to run fourth to Boom Boom Bang, beaten just under a length. Only has to show natural improvement to just about knock this field off.
Big Danger: 8 Templars Cross (Bet Now: $14.00) is the interesting one. Resumes here after just one run last prep where he was luckless at Kalgoorlie. Good spell after that, has trialled well and Pike, who rode in the trial, sticks. Hard to beat.
Roughie: 11 Cuban Rocket (Bet Now: $13.00) has had two career runs to date and while on face value it looks below par, he hasn’t been that bad. Last start at Pinjarra he was wide no cover for the trip and rightfully dropped out. Better than that I think and he could be an improver at odds.
Race Two (14:39) : James Boags Premium Plate 1400m:
Back Me: 2 Rich Red (Bet Now: $6.50) ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he had a nice run near the speed and loomed to win but was overhauled late by the talented Get Over It. No stars here, so he has to rate highly.
Roughie: 4 Lord Ludlow (Bet Now: $8.00) was solid here on debut before going to Northam last Thursday where he was ridden a treat on speed by Jason Brown and duly saluted. Better ridden with a sit I think and he has scope to improve big time.
Big Danger: 3 Magic Las Vegas (Bet Now: $14.00) won a 1600m maiden last Thursday at Northam on protest after getting a severe check in the straight. He has performed well in town before, rock hard fit and should be around the mark.
Race Three (15:18) : Get The Tabtouch Plate 1000m:
Back Me: 4 Sweet Ora (Bet Now: $2.70) for me here. Pike rode the filly a treat here two weeks back to wear down her nemesis Dainty Tess in good style. No reason to suggest she won’t beat her again. Happy to be with her.
Big Danger: 1 Dainty Tess (Bet Now: $3.80) is an absolute beauty. What you see is what you get with her. She jumps, runs, sits on speed, kicks hard and doesn’t go down without a fight, as we saw last start with Sweet Ora. Wide gate is the worry, but how could you leave her out.
Roughie: 2 Next Generation (Bet Now: $14.00) ran third in the race and his effort was alright considering he was first up and he just didn’t have the turn of foot. There might be more speed this time, which will suit, and he will be strong late.
Race Four (15:58) : The Tabtouch Masters Handicap (78+) 1000m:
Back Me: 6 Cool Passion (Bet Now: $2.60) is heading towards a possible Summer Carnival and kicks off here. He was outstanding during the Autumn/Winter, winning four of six and placing on the other two occasions. No trials, but class and quality gets him home.
Big Danger: 10 Volkhoff (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented mare that resumes for Gary Crispin. Performed very well during the Summer months but you could tell by the end she had enough. Looked solid enough in a trial here a couple of weeks back and does sprint well fresh.
Roughie: 9 Marchand ran over this track/distance four weeks ago and tried very hard on speed when a close up second to the talented Three Votes. Gets really good weight relief here and draws to get a soft run just off a likely hot tempo.
Race Five (16:38) : Belmont Bonanza Handicap (1MW) 1600m:
Back Me: 2 Baraki Beats (Bet Now: $4.50) looks the way to go here in what appears to be a two horse race. He has strung together a number of placings so he is hard to trust, but he draws a lovely gate and will take a stack of beating.
Big Danger: 3 Falcon Crest (Bet Now: $4.40) looks the only other winning chance. He has been in great form this time in, winning his past two starts. Draws to get a lovely run near the speed and Pike is on. Ticks the boxes.
Roughie: 6 The Forgotten One (Bet Now: $7.50) ran a luckless fifth behind Falcon Crest last time out, getting badly held up when appearing to have plenty to offer. Hard to trust, but he will be a contender if he brings a run similar to last start.
Race Six (17:14) : The Carbine Club Of WA Apprentices Cup (62+) 2200m:
Back Me: 9 Present Arms (Bet Now: $15.00) gets one more chance for me here. He ran over 2100m here a fortnight back where he really struggled to pick up his feet on the wet track when finishing down the track. The weight relief will help his cause, and really, on his best form, he is better than these.
Big Danger: 4 Ready To Fire (Bet Now: $4.80) ran third behind Material Man and his effort was very sound, getting the box seat trail and plugging away solidly to the line. Been up longer than Ron Jeremy, but continues to race well and draws to get a sweet trip once again.
Roughie: 3 Operational (Bet Now: $17.00) is teasing to win one of these staying races. He ran fifth behind Material Man and he did work home okay late without threatening. Been a long time since he has won, but he is trained by one of the best and there are no standouts here.
Race Seven (17:50) : Ascot Racing Carnival Hospitality Book Now Handicap (1MW) 1000m:
Back Me: 7 Brackets (Bet Now: $6.50) for me here in a tricky race. He ran over this track/distance last Wednesday where he was luckless behind Coleta given he got held up badly until the race was done and dusted. Pike is on now, he draws well and ran well on a soft track when resuming.
Big Danger: 3 Roger The Roman (Bet Now: $13.00) is a real pest. He looms to win races, but he doesn’t finish it off, like he did three weeks ago when sixth to Hot Goods. The speed will be on for him and he can handle a wet track, plus he draws to get good cover and ambush late.
Roughie: 13 Faith In Fate (Bet Now: $17.00) ran on a bog track here a couple of Wednesdays back and produced a lovely turn of foot from near last to get the job done impressively in what looked a pretty handy race. Clearly has a liking for wet ground, on the minimum and is hard fit.
Race Eight (18:25) : Peacock Bros Handicap (72+) 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Stocks (Bet Now: $9.50) raced over 1400m here last time out where I think the 59kg really anchored him down over the final 150 when fourth to Flying Roar. Was due to run over 1400m last week but was scratched and instead runs here. Definite winning chance.
Big Danger: 7 Furious Dame (Bet Now: 8.00) remains at 1200m on a wet track, which is a slight worry but I’ll give her a chance. She has done the bolt at her past two, and got away with it last start when holding off Conseated. Doesn’t appear to much be much speed drawn inside her so she’s one of the hardest to beat.
Roughie: 8 Bayella (Bet Now: $17.00) is in really good form at the moment. She ran here three weeks back and was unlucky not to finish closer when running a close up third to Furious Dame. Has good upside and draws to get good cover off the speed.
Race Nine (19:00) : Amelia Park Lamb Handicap (66+) 1400m:
Back Me: 6 Chocolate Holic (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the best bet of the afternoon right across Australia. He has taken care of them easily at his past two. He did look in a bit of trouble on the bend last start but when Pike gave him a click, he just went straight past them. Only thing that will beat him is the wet track.
Big Danger: 4 Pounamu (Bet Now: $4.60) resumed over 1200m here four weeks ago and was completely luckless in running third to Miki Two Shoes given he got badly held up in the straight when appearing to be bolting. He performed very well earlier on in the prep last time in, and the same scenario looks as if it’ll occur.
Roughie: 8 Bourbon Dynasty (Bet Now: $21.00) ran over this track/distance four weeks and ran a very good race but bumped into a Stakes class mare in Chocolate Holic. Not sure she can turn the tables, but she draws to get good cover and be strong late.
