3/5/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Wagga, Wagga Cup day

12 Ludovica (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top in the opener. Lauri Parker trained filly that ran in a strong maiden at Newcastle last start. She was near the speed throughout and tried hard but didn’t have the answers in the straight behind Empress Of Wonder, who is Stakes performed, so that clearly reads well for a country maiden and despite the wide gate, she’s the one to beat IMO.

10 Divine Ella (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Divine Prophet filly on debut for Paul Murray. The stable loves to target this Carnival and they have this girl ready to go for start one here off the back of a trial win at Kembla a couple of weeks ago where she won narrowly but ran solid enough time and moved nicely, so I’d watch the market.

3 Messaggero (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. He has been held in both runs back, but each maiden has been won by nice types, first up at Canberra behind Code In Time before racing there again and finishing three lengths away from Downtown’s Abbey. Good racing style and hard fit, he appeals as a knockout hope.

4 Cani Cancan (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Paul Murray trained filly that resumes, having not raced since Feb 29 at Kembla when behind Flying Sultan. She got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, I liked her finale in a tidy performance. Previous first up winner and stable finds a gun in Schiller to steer.

10 Letme Entertainyou (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has home track advantage and a good racing style. She ran over 1300m here last time out when ridden with intent, sitting on speed and she tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get the win when second to Communication. Can press forward to negate the wide draw and overall, this isn’t a deep race.

5 Peruno (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a definite winning threat. He was several weeks between runs when racing over 1100m at Wellington last start where he was very good, giving them a start and a beating, letting down with a strong finale to win. He’ll love the 1300m and if he can use the inside gate to advantage, he’s dangerous.

1 Joey D’Or (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on speed and prove hard to beat. Bjorn Baker trained three year old that looked a moral when resuming in an Orange maiden and he duly was, leading throughout, winning by a space and had something in reserve. Bit more depth here but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

7 Dolly (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in a four start career and commands respect for Scott Spackman. Was knocking on the door to break the maiden tag and she did it in style last time here, sitting just off the speed before angling clear and she made a mess of them in a sharp display. Hard to beat against these.

3 Sebastian’s Flyer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a first four threat. Joseph/Jones trained gelding that resumed over 1200m at Queanbeyan where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, his finale was more than sound in an encouraging return. Draws to settle much closer and he’ll be strong at the end.

5 Love Shuck (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the potential to be a jet I feel but upstairs, he has screws loose. That was evident when he resumed at the Sapphire Coast. He got into a decent spot near the speed before angling clear but once that eventuated, he was very green and threw away any chance. Trialled since, Blinkers on, and he was erratic again, but he looked to move very well. He wins this if he puts it together.

6 King Gutho (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Joe Cleary trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Feb 9 at Canberra when just behind the speed but failed to get involved and was never really a factor. Been given a good break and he seemed to move well in a recent trial win at Queanbeyan. Good racing style and Tommy is found to steer.

3 Zelago (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout chance. Joseph/Jones trained gelding that is suited up to 1200m after racing over 1100m at Wellington last start where he got a fair way out of his ground but did work home well late in the piece. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll still be strong late and can win this without surprising.

4 Subliminal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the each way play for me here. This mare ran over 1400m at Seymour last time where she got back early but tracked up and made a sustained move, but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Gifted Gamer. She has versatility re racing pattern, but I hope they press forward and with that, she’ll take beating.

7 Communication (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has an awful gate to overcome but she looks to be sneaky flying. She got the job done over 1300m here last time out in the Prelude to this race, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. The gate does makes things tricky but if she can get cover, she’ll be strong at the end.

10 Flying Flossy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the likely leader and if she gets some form of front end control, she becomes dangerous at odds. Dominant win at Nowra two back before going to the mile at Canberra where she was near the speed throughout but just didn’t run the trip out behind Cyborg. Back to 1400m, lands near the front, she’s a knockout hope.

11 It’s A Wonder (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning in an intriguing edition of the Guineas. Ryan/Alexiou trained filly that has been strong this time in, winning impressively fresh in a Newcastle maiden before going to the James Carr at Randwick where like most for the meeting, she struggled on the bog, but was solid enough in defeat. Firmer deck, hard fit and up to the mile, she’s the one for me.

1 Fiddlers Green (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction for Annabel Neasham. He was somewhat luckless two back at Newcastle over 1500m before going to Hawkesbury last time where he found clear air and made a mess of them in a dominant display. He’ll like the rise to 1600m and despite the tricky gate, appeals.

4 Imezaaki (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse I have had time for since day one so I am not dismissing him here. He resumed behind Fiddlers Green at Hawkesbury where he got into a decent spot behind the speed but just lacked the change up speed to go with them late in the piece. Might want one more and 2000m, but he maps to do no work and be strong late.

8 Political Debate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a massive price here. Chris Waller trained gelding that ran last Saturday at Rosehill and he was one of the eye catchers of the meeting I thought behind Let’srollthedice given he made ground against the pattern, the rider dropped the whip and he was a month between runs. Good room for improvement, stable loves to target this race…all points to him running well.

7 Fawkner Park (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented animal for Annabel Neasham that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Albury Cup where he made an absolute mess of them. He gave them a start and a beating, winning by a space and running fast time in the process. He’s been waiting for dry ground, he gets that here and despite the gate, appeals.

9 Taramansour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Phillip Stokes since contesting the Golden Mile at Bendigo where he got back to near last in the run and did make up some ground without threatening behind El Soleado. Fitter and up to 2000m, good upside to come, I am not dismissing him against this lot.

5 Best Intent (Bet Now:  $SP.00) in the get out. 1000m is on the short side for her but in terms of quality, I do think she has a few lengths on these so the market will be fascinating. Her last run came on Nov 17 at Gundagai where she did work to lead and that early burn just felt the pinch late and tired. Resumes without a trial but stable can get them ready for a return, so watch the market.

2 Cruizingdafield (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the program. Formerly with Mark Newnham, he is now with Scott Collings. He had two runs for Newnham, both in 2022, the second start being a win on the Kenso. Liked his trial win at Canberra, but the long layoff…gee the market is going to be a great guide.

14 Swift Enuff (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in a five start career for Gary Colvin. This mare resumed on the Riverside track here where she got into a decent spot near the speed before angling clear and in a driving go, she was too good. Maps to get a lovely run in transit…not sure she wins, but a must for multiples.
