The Belmont Winter Carnival continues this Saturday where it is Idyllic Prince Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:37) Go Racing Before The Footy Mdn 1000m
1 Nurhaci (Bet Now:Β $2.35) for me in a tricky maiden. Adam Durrant trained gelding that resumed at this track/distance three weeks ago and if you were on, it was hard watching. Think with a clear path, he wins the race, but the rub of the green didn’t go his way when third to Foxhood. Staying at 1000m is a query, but the resumption and trial prior suggested he has returned well.
6 La Chiave (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a definite market watch for Lindsey Smith. Both runs back from a spell have come over 1000m at Northam. Market said she was ready to go fresh and just tired late when third to Hot Technique before having a freshen up and racing on July 30 where she had no friends in the market and ran accordingly. If the money arrives, I’d be seriously respecting that.
3 Devil’s Dust (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a son of Viscount that resumes for the Giadresco team. This gelding had a two run prep in the Summer to start his career and beat one runner home across the two outings. Been given a good break and have liked the way he has trialled leading in. Could be a sneaky first four chance at big odds.
Race 2. (15:17) Westspeed Platinum Mdn 1600m
4 Return To Oz (Bet Now:Β $4.40) on top but not a great deal of confidence. Adam Durrant trained gelding who was backed with confidence when racing over 1700m here last Wednesday but he was pretty much off the bit the entire trip and whacked away when third to Zaalah. If this was 2000m+, I’d be keen. Back to 1600m is a negative but this race has no depth.
2 Brave Call (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is third up from a break and should be close to peak fitness for Rhys Radford. Both runs back from a spell have come over 1400m here, the latest coming two weeks ago where the slow tempo was against him and though he loomed, the leaders had the sprint in the legs to finish off better. Like him up to the mile and is a key chance.
10 Twenty Eight Rock (Bet Now:Β $35.00) is one I could include in multiples at big odds. Had good specking at a big price when resuming at Pinjarra over 1500m and I thought she worked to the line pretty well despite never really being a winning threat. Overall, this isn’t the strongest maiden going around, so she doesn’t need to be anything special to be competitive.
Race 3. (15:57) Peninsula Dining Room Plate 1400m
6 Chili Is Hot (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is one of the better gambles on the card IMO. Market support at odds on debut suggested she would run well and she did more than that, slicing her way through a narrow split to burst through and get the job done. Can sit closer in the run from the inside gate, extra 200m I like and she finds a very winnable race.
1 Chix Chatter (Bet Now:Β $2.45) looks hard to beat for the David Harrison team. Both runs this time in has seen him place behind the very promising Queen Brown, the latest coming three weeks ago at this track/distance when a closing third but never really a winning threat. Overall depth here isn’t as strong and third up, should be at peak fitness.
3 Kerman Rock (Bet Now:Β $4.20) rises a bit in grade/depth, but there was plenty of merit to his maiden win just over two weeks ago at Northam. Was wide no cover for the trip and was forced wider on the turn yet still finished best in a really impressive performance. Not sure he wins here, but I’d include him in multiples.
Race 4. (16:33) Cool Ridge (bm66+) 2200m
Not much of a staying race this, so want to be one with upside and progression, which is 9 Zip Your Lips (Bet Now:Β $11.00). He ran over the mile last Thursday at Pinjarra and while the hot pot Street Fair was a little unlucky, this guy was strong from off the speed and really charged to the line in winning, suggesting a rise in trip won’t hurt, and he finds a thin race.
6 Bonneville Black (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a Fred Kersley trained gelding that is three weeks between runs after producing one of the wins of the meeting when winning here. Was wide no cover for the trip, so was entitled to tire late, which he did, but was able to cling on in a very game effort. Like the gap between runs and is a leading chance.
Back on firmer footing, 8 Sugar Cain (Bet Now:Β $11.00) can win. Team Williams trained mare that ran over 2100m here last Wednesday where on the turn, she looked a serious winning threat but I think the wet track just brought her undone and she whacked away to run fourth. She’s better than that and is better when on dry ground.
Race 5. (17:15) Kirin Megumi (rs1mw) 1000m
She’s not a good thing, but 5 This’ll Testya (Bet Now:Β $1.50) is on top. One of the more fascinating runners for the meeting given there was so much hype around her when last in work, and was even talked up as an Everest horse after two booming wins to start her career. That was put to bed after a couple of subsequent flops. Trial leading into this was strong and a good enough grounding to win fresh at 1000m.
1 Excellent Dream (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is an in form gelding for Lindsey Smith and does have hard race fitness under the belt. Put together a couple of sharp wins to start the prep prior to racing over this track/distance just over two weeks ago when on speed and looked the winner, but was bloused near the peg. He’ll give a bold sight I’m sure.
2 Super Ex (Bet Now:Β $15.00) is third up from a spell and should be hard fit now for the Luke Fernie camp. Two runs in WA have come at this track/distance, finishing off strongly to win first up before sitting wide with cover last time out and just raced that little bit flat, so anticipating a third up bounce back and is in the right stable.
Race 6. (17:55) Idyllic Prince Stakes 1300m
Back on firmer footing, I want to give 7 Free Trade (Bet Now:Β $2.25) another. Thought he was a good thing when he resumed in the Newmarket but McGruddy on Saracino made a race of it, teared along in front, and Free Trade didn’t handle that heat at all and on face value, he was terrible. But fitter, back on top of the ground and at WFA, he’s hard to beat.
9 Dance Music (Bet Now:Β $3.70) is an absolute beauty and great to see her return. Simon Miller trained mare that hasn’t raced since the Pinjarra Classic when third to Free Trade after sitting just off what looked a good clip, she battled away late. She flies fresh and loved the recent Lark Hill trial. Think she’ll give this a shake.
1 Great Shot (Bet Now:Β $7.00) might find a couple of these a bit nippy but he does have the runs on the board being a Group l winner, he’ll put himself on speed and try hard, which is what he did in two runs during the Spring of last year, placing each time. Returns for another crack at the Railway and looks in good order based on his trial effort.
Race 7. (18:35) Amelia Park (rs1mw) 1400m
4 Super Teroitoa (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is racing so well at the moment for Colin Webster. Too good for Bel My Pago two back before racing at Pinjarra again where she was wide no cover for the trip yet had the audacity to hit the front and look home, only to be bloused late by Cristal Dane. Gets the claim, rolls forward and is hard to beat.
8 Ration Aly (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is the one with upside and progression. Loved the way she found the line when resuming here in a Class Three, sitting back near last in the run before peeling wide on the turn and unleashing a brilliant finale to get up and win. Stable have been patient with her and I think they’re going to be rewarded. Leading chance.
3 Double The Pro (Bet Now:Β $9.00) is suited back up to 1400m for Peter Fernie. Was back in trip when racing over 1300m here two weeks ago and just got too far back in the run, but he finished off his race pretty well, albeit was never a winning threat. Convinced he’s going well. A win would shock somewhat, but a must for exotics.
Race 8. (19:15) Crown Towers (bm72+) 1000m
9 Silkinize (Bet Now:Β $5.00) for me in the get out. David Harrison trained four year old who was given some Pike magic to win here two back before stepping up to 1200m where I think the run well and truly confirmed that six furlongs sees him out when midfield behind Cliffs Of Comfort. Back to a fast run 1000m, off a good speed, keen on him bouncing back.
1 We’ve Got Dreams (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a beauty for Michael Lane. Puts herself on speed and busts a gut each time she steps out. That was the case again three weeks back at this track/distance and she was simply too tough for Money Matters, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Claim helps and Azzopardi is one of the best in WA when it comes to front runners.
8 Mia Dolce (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is a beauty and back to 1000m I think is a big, big tick for this girl. She attempted to lead throughout over 1200m here last start and gave a really solid kick but 1200m sees her out and she was grabbed late by Cliffs Of Comfort. Like her back to 1000m, should lead these up I dare say and give them something to chase.
