Racing returns to Moonee Valley this Saturday with nine races set down. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:45) Ladbroke It Hcp 1000m
5 Prinzerro (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained juvenile that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since his debut back at Sandown back in April when looking all over a winner when asked to go but he couldn’t finish it off and was nabbed late by Scheelite, who won again since and looks a likely type so the form reads well and his jumpout work has been sharp. Keen to see how he resumes.
1 Roussillonย (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a key threat. James Cummings trains this son of Exceed And Excel, that resumed over 1100m at Gosford where he looked a good thing on paper and despite not getting the easiest of runs from the inside gate, class came to the fore and he was much too good. Back to a fast run 1000m I find interesting but should be strong at the end.
4 Massira (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a colt with decent talent. He won like a nice horse fresh in a Geelong maiden before going down the straight at Flemington two weeks back and that being his second run down the straight, I think that confirmed he isn’t a straight track horse when down the track behind Exploring. Back around a bend, I am giving him a look.
Race 2. (13:20) Opus Group Hcp 1000m
The end of 1000m is the knock with 1 Malaboom (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) but she’ll give herself every chance with her racing style, especially at The Valley. She resumed at Caulfield a few weeks back when attempting to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off behind a sharp type, Outback Miss. Think with the lead and some level of control, she has the engine under the hood to take running down, especially off a sharp trial win.
3 Spicy Margsย (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. She resumed at Caulfield a few weeks ago and was impressive in winning from in front. She was there to be beaten but she just kept running and was dominant in the run to the line. Good racing style from The Valley and stable elected to run here instead of Morphettville despite a tricky gate.
5 Zousukoย (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a John McArdle trained filly that resumes. She had a three run prep in the Autumn to start her career, not quite measuring up in the Blue Diamond lead ups before an okay effort down the straight at Flemington. Has been given a good break and her trial/jumpout work has been more than encouraging so watch the market.
Race 3. (13:55) Dominant 65 Years Hcp 1600m
Staying at 1600m I hate for 7 Another Wil (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) but he does look promising for Maher/Eustace. He was a real eye catcher on debut at Werribee before making amends and confirming that debut effort with a spank job win in a Moe maiden, where his late splits were some of the best of the meeting. He’s above average, progressive…and I’d say is the one they have to beat.
10 Sacred Bull (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is the key threat. Price/Kent trains this son of Sacred Falls that comes straight to town off the back of a dominant maiden win at Bairnsdale where he didn’t beat much but the manner in which he put them away was very nice. Tricky draw and more depth, but he’s a likely type and has more upside/progression than most.
Jumping sharply up in trip I find interesting with 4 No Drama (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) but his best is good enough to be dangerous. He resumed down the straight at Flemington over 1100m back on June 3 and was pretty plain to the eye, but he just found them too sharp behind Senegalia. He has since had a jumpout and looked pretty good there so I think for exotics, entertain him.
Race 4. (14:30) Lee Ann Suryn Hcp 2040m
2 Torranzino (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks a progressive three year old heading in the right direction for Paul Preusker. He has won his past two, winning his maiden at Warracknabeal two back over 2000m before going to 2000m at Caulfield three weeks ago and despite doing a bit wrong, he had a bit on them and was impressive. He’ll eat up a testing 2040m and is one of the hardest to beat.
4 So Sleek (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is one of the key chances. Maher/Eustace trained three year old that ran in the Torranzino race from three weeks back at Caulfield. He had a suck run behind the speed and was angling for an inside run. He didn’t get the clearest of paths and didn’t have full momentum like the three that beat him home. He’ll have no issue with the trip and with upside, appeals.
3 Magnaspin (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has come back in really good order for Team Corstens and is a key chance. He ran in the Albanian I Am race from a fortnight back at Flemington. He had a suck run behind the speed and presented to win the race but wasn’t able to finish it off, beaten just over a length. He was 1400m to 1700m so with that 1700m run under the belt, he should be fine at the trip here and commands respect.
Race 5. (15:10) Luna Hand Care (Bm100) 2040m
1 Milford (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is bursting to win a race this time in and I think he gets a great chance here. He was given every chance by Pinn I thought two weeks ago at Flemington and was hailed as the winner when the button was pushed but he was nabbed right on the peg by Young Werther…nailed by Young Werther. Not a glowing endorsement I know, but that was fourth up so I reckon at peak fitness, he’s the way I am leaning.
2 Lord Ardmore (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a consistent animal for Chris Waller that is generally around the mark. He ran a fortnight back at Flemington when just off the speed throughout and tried his guts outs but couldn’t quite get there when a close up fourth to Young Werther. He was a month between runs leading into that so with improvement and upside, he’s in with a serious shout.
7 Flash Feeling (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He ran two weeks back at Flemington over 2000m where he got back to near last in the run and did make up headway without much room to improve so be forgiving of the effort behind Young Werther. He is a horse who looks like he needs clear air to build momentum so if that eventuates, he’ll be around the mark.
Race 6. (15:50) Dominant Brand Protection-Bm78 2500m
This race has really fallen away after scratchings. 11 Jaykayann (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is on top though. Patrick Payne trains this mare, who comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since June 10 at Sandown when an odds on favourite but failed to fire from off the speed when beaten several lengths by Strawberry Rock. Tick over trial was good and she did work quite well here earlier this week. Hard to beat with her best.
1 Strawberry Rockย (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) commands respect for Maher/Eustace. Loved the way he toughed it out to win two back at Sandown before going to the Stayers Cup at Randwick when just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when a close up fourth to Outlandos. He’s a stayer so 2500m here is no issue and with the claim for Billy Pinn, he gets in quite well.
15 Never Againย (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Reece Goodwin after contesting the VOBIS Gold Stayers last Saturday at Caulfield. He didn’t have the class of the likes of Teewaters and Khoekhoe but he stuck to the task quite well and actually made up some form of headway. Back to 78 grade, two time winner at The Valley, he’s in with a shout.
Race 7. (16:30) Travis Harrison Cup (Bm100) 1600m
10 Chief Altony (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Alex Rae. He ran second to Flash Flood at Caulfield three weeks back where he was back near last and came with a well timed run, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to the Maher/Eustace galloper. Good record at the track/distance and if there is a bit of juice in the track, she appeals.
3 So Si Bon (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is rising ten years of age but is maintaining a healthy zest for racing, which was seen three weeks back at Caulfield when near the speed throughout and kept on quite strongly when a narrow third to Ulysses. He has run well at The Valley previously and I think getting back up to the mile is a big tick for him.
11 Royal Mile (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a knockout hope. First run for Briedoake/Jenkins came down the straight two weeks back at Flemington and he was very good in a race that wasn’t set up for him at all. His late splits were very good after burning petrol tickets between the 800m-600m when chasing the speed. Much better suited on a bending track and he has a good record at the mile. Definite contender.
Race 8. (17:05) Dominant.Com.Au (Bm78) 1600m
I want to give 12 Lievore (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) another chance. Nikki Burke trained mare that ran two weeks ago at Flemington and her run was full of merit after sitting three and four wide no cover for the trip, she stuck on very well in defeat behind Delicious Tycoon. Loses Tatum Bull and gets Craig Williams, which is self explanatory, and with good upside, good racing style, she’ll take beating.
7 Defiant Diva (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is finding it hard to win but she is an honest mare for Team Corstens that is generally around the mark. I thought she was very good in defeat a fortnight back at Flemington, working home with purpose from off the speed to just miss out on the win when second to Delicious Tycoon. She is hard to catch so backing her to win? Not sure I could, but respecting her as a key threat.
14 Bellini Miss (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is in with a shout for Lindsey Smith. She was very game in defeat last time at Geelong when wide no cover for the trip but kept finding the line in a strong effort when a narrow second to the well backed Lulu Darling. 1/1 at the track/distance and last start was her first run in four weeks so she has good room for improvement.
Race 9. (17:40) Dominant Plant Powered (Bm70) 1200m
14 Pereille (Bet Now:ย $SP.00), I think, is a milk drinker, but it’s the perfect horse for the patient hands of Blake Shinn. He ran last Wednesday at Sandown when back in trip from first up and just found them too sharp. Four big ticks for him here: No depth, up in trip, B Shinn aboard and his work here earlier this week, he was the standout of those that worked at the track. Very dangerous declaring a milk drinker a good thing…but I think he is a good thing.
8 Shalaman (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has a good record at the track and seems to be enjoying life with Gavin Bedggood. First run for the stable came over 1000m at Sandown last Wednesday in the race mentioned above and was a real eye catcher from the back when a closing third. He too worked nicely here earlier this week and with a liking for The Valley, he’s a threat.
11 Rock Artist (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a decent sight. He did that last time at Sandown over 1200m and gave a strong kick under Froggy but he couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late, running a close up fourth to Jack Of It. If this track is playing up/in, then his racing style will give himself every chance to take this out.
