29/4/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill

5 Armed Forces (Bet Now:  $SP.00), I think, has the potential to be a horse that can measure up in Brisbane. Well bred colt that is on debut for Chris Waller off the back of a couple of strong trial placings, where each time he has seemingly moved well and had something up the sleeve. Down to run last week at the midweeks but has been kept on ice for this. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

1 Sovereign Fund (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the class/quality of the field and that will take him a long way towards victory. He resumes for Team Snowden, having not raced since the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast where he found the 1200m at that level a bridge too far when down the track behind Skirt The Law. Pushed right out to win a trial last week so the grounding is there to run well fresh and will be strong late.

3 Thunderlips (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is unbeaten in one career start. That debut win came at Hawkesbury over 1000m where he had the suck run behind the speed before getting the splits and he went through his gears like a nice horse to win well in solid time. Tick over trial saw him pushed out but won well and maps to get a perfect trip in transit. Definite winning chance.

Bit of a throw at the stumps here in the shape of 22 Do This All Day (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who resumes for Danielle Seib, a stable that loves to target the Highway. He resumes, having not raced since Feb 11 in a Highway at Randwick over 1800m behind stablemate Amarantz. Not a noted fresh horse, 1400m is on the short side but his recent trial at Wagga was very sharp to the eye and good enough to drag Danny Beasley to town.

1 Bianco Vilano (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has really turned his form around since the Bar Plates have come off. He was kept pretty safe in betting last time in the Country Championships Final and I thought was far from disgraced in defeat behind Sizzle Minizzle. He likes his races spaced so the break between runs is no issue, he maps ideally and gets J Mac.

10 Chase My Crown (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous if the rain hits and hits hard. Market liked her at odds when resuming in a Highway at Randwick two weeks back and was pretty good from near the back when a closing third to Preemptory. Fitter and up to 1400m, if she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.

Fresh legs and back to 1500m I do like for 10 Miracle Spin (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He looked ready to win but struggled on the bog track over 2200m at Warwick Farm last time and couldn’t pick his feet up behind Deniliquin. Tick over trial was a very good piece of work and back onto a firmer deck, his best is clearly good enough to take this out.

8 Anythink Goes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. He ran in the Midway at Randwick two weeks back and tried hard from off the speed but was no match late for dominant winner Mayrose. He’s crying out for a firmer deck, which he should get here, and up to 1500m, hard fit, this is just about D-Day for him.

16 Achira (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be a big improver second up. Team Curtis trained mare that resumed over 1400m at Eagle Farm where she got back to near last in the run and was never a factor when down the track behind handy mare Ausbred Flirt. Has a good second up record and has won a Midway at this track/distance so I wouldn’t drop off her.

14 Lavish Empire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a lightly raced animal for Mark Newnham that appeals. He had one soft trial leading into his return at Warwick Farm over 1100m where he got into a nice spot near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off, but he was only beaten narrowly by Excelladus. He’s racing like 1200m will suit and the stable is in super form, so with upside, he appeals.

19 Contemporary (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep for James Cummings. He resumed at the midweeks at Warwick Farm over 1100m on testing ground where he got a fair way back in the run and closed off with purpose late in the piece when third to Rita May. Fitter and up to 1200m on firmer footing, in well after the claim, he is a leading chance.

6 Pretty Wild (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Brazen Beau mare for Chris Waller that resumes and her best is very much good enough to take this out. Just depends where she is at but two lovely trials under the belt suggest she’s ready to run a forward race fresh and the wet track is perfect for her. Definite yard and market watch.

6 Hellfest (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality mare for James Cummings that resumes. She hasn’t raced since December 17 at Randwick when placing behind a ripping mare, I Am Me, who went on to be a Stakes winner and Group l performed. Three trials under the belt to get ready for her return and each time she has looked impressive. Good grounding for the return, she commands respect.

D-Day for 8 Kipsbay (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He has had two runs back from a spell, bolting up fresh at Eagle Farm before racing at that track again a fortnight ago where the market took a set against him and it was proven correct when down the track behind Antino. Hard fit now, jockey upgrade, should slide forward and off the resumption, he can take this out.

7 Astero (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in really good order and shouldn’t be dismissed. He was near the speed throughout at Doomben three weeks back and was as honest as ever, just failing to finish it off when a narrow third to Mississippi Prince. Tends to save his best for Rosehill and although this is harder, he’s hard fit and racing well, so I think for exotics, include him.

3 Quality Time (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another chance. He was quite good in defeat in the Golden Mile at Bendigo two back before going to the JRA Plate at Randwick where he just didn’t handle the wet ground and struggled when down the track behind Diamil. Back on firmer footing and I reckon back to 1800m, he can easily bounce back.

7 Navajo Peak (Bet Now:  $SP.00) come here with fresh legs for David Payne, having not raced since March 18 when winning the Gold Coast Stakes at Doomben where he had the suck run behind the speed and finished best, which followed strong efforts in Sydney so it was astute placement. You’d think this is probably a prep run for something, but he’s genuine and will be strong at the end.

4 Otyrar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Just needed the run fresh behind Tamerlane here before going to the mile at Warwick Farm where he got into a sweet spot behind the speed and battled to the line late without threatening behind Cognac. He might want one more and 2000m+, but he has the Waller polish, on the home track, and has good upside to come.

14 Newley Wed (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Team Hawkes trained mare that resumed at Warwick Farm on Easter Monday and I thought was quite good from the back, making up solid headway when a close up third to in form mare Ausbred Flirt. Has more upside than most and has the potential to settle closer in the run. Leading contender.

Playing the straight bet with 11 Money From The Sky (Bet Now:  $SP.00) in the get out. Mark Newnham trains this newly gelded four year old, who resumed at Warwick Farm and was one of the runs of the meeting given the sustain run tried from Sherry but couldn’t quite sustain it when second to Ka Bling, who had a much better run near speed and was too good. Gate is awful for him, but he’ll be very strong at the end.

2 Kayobi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Resumed with a big win in a Provincial Championship Qualifier before going to the Final at Randwick where he was brave in defeat but just couldn’t quite let down on the ground when fourth to Spangler. Hard fit now and back on a firmer deck, I think he has to be respected.

10 Sonora (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality mare for the Maher/Eustace camp that resumes. She really came of age when last in work, putting together a couple of sharp wins before leading and tiring late at Randwick behind Much Much Better. That last run was Feb 25 so she has residual fitness and comes through a fast trial at Warwick Farm so she has a solid enough grounding to resume with a forward showing.

11 Air To Air… (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has she turned the corner? Was teasing to be a good horse, firstly with Jason Coyle, then with Sam Kavanagh. Now she’s with GaiBott and she looks a different horse. A better horse. Hasn’t raced since a strong midweek win on the Kenso track where she was wide no cover throughout but she kept finding under pressure to score a big win. Tick over trial was very good and if she runs up to the return, she can certainly take this out.

4 Frumos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare that resumes. She has threatened to be a good horse but more often than not, she has let punters down, and I dare say connections too. But she is a mare with good talent who likes her home track here and has trialled up well in readiness for her return. If they overdo it in front, she’ll be strong late.

Looks a lovely race for 4 Wild Planet (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Team Hawkes have this guy and I thought he did more than enough when resuming two weeks ago in the Hall Mark, closing off his race nicely without threatening behind impressive winner Vilana. Great record at 1400m, he likes Rosehill and this is one of the easier races he has contested in some time.

10 Cotehele (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another chance. John O’Shea trained gelding that resumed over this trip two weeks ago at Randwick where he was near the speed throughout and tried hard but just didn’t have the change up speed to go with them late, and perhaps struggled on the wet ground when fourth to Tamerlane, who got control in front and was too good. Better for the run under the belt, firmer footing, he can bounce back.

3 Military Expert (Bet Now:  $SP.00), to me, is a dry track or bust horse. I thought he would run really well when resuming a fortnight back at Randwick and he looked to be going sweetly in the run but when J Mac let him go, the wheels were spinning and he couldn’t pick his feet up behind Tamerlane. The track should be on the firmer side compared to first up and his best is clearly good enough.

11 Huesca (Bet Now:  $SP.00) does his best racing it seems when on speed and rolling so if that can eventuate here, he’ll take running down in the get out for GaiBott. He ran last Wednesday at Warwick Farm when wide no cover off the speed and just kept grinding to the line when a narrow second to Sandpaper. That should toughen him right up for this and with the lead there for him, he’ll take beating.

3 Excelladus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like he is enjoying life under the care of David Pfieffer. Formerly with John Thompson, he trialled up quite well prior to resuming at Warwick Farm over 1100m where the market said he was there to go and under a lovely patient steer from Collett, he drove hard late and was strong to the line in winning narrowly but impressively. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals.

2 Tony Be (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained gelding that resumes. This guy did a good job when last in work, highlighted by an electric second up win here. He is better suited over further and may need the run, but he has a touch of quality about him when right and if they go hard in front, he will be one of the strongest at the end.

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 6 Hellfest

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 4 Wild Planet
