Race 1. (12:16) Zousain 1St Yearlings In 2023 1000m
1 Mishani Renegade (Bet Now: $1.50) is 2/2 to start his career, the latest being two weeks ago when ridden a treat by Cornish, sitting back before egding into clear air and finished best to win and win well. He’s the one with hard race fitness and experience under the belt and will be strong late.
2 Mishani Raider (Bet Now: $3.50) is next best. He ran second to Mishani Renegade in the race from a fortnight back where he stole a mini break and fought on strongly, but was no match late for the stablemate. All things being equal, they’ll finish 1-2 in that order again, but they are clearly the two standouts.
3 Mishani Tycoon (Bet Now: $26.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Doomben where he was back and run off his legs but stayed on and was sound in defeat behing a quality juvenile, Miss Coota. He’s hard fit and from an inside gate, if he can settle closer, he could be dangerous at price.
Race 2. (12:53) Macmahon Hcp (C3) 1200m
3 Argyle Lane (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back. Unbeaten record went on the line two weeks ago here over 1000m when freshened up. He was keen in the run, sitting on speed and he tried hard but just felt the pinch late behind Deep Rouge. Fitter and up to 1200m, with a sit, he’ll be more effective.
2 Alburq (Bet Now: $4.40) has one of the worst winning strike rates I’ve seen of a metro class horse, but I am treating him as a different horse now he’s with Brian Smith and not Michael Moroney. First run for the new stable came at Eagle Farm a few weeks back and was very good in defeat, just missing out on the win when second to Extremist. Good second up record so he’s hard to beat.
8 Enabler (Bet Now: $6.50) should appreciate a rise to 1200m. He ran in the Deep Rouge race from a fortnight back here where he was near last in the run and made up good ground without threatening behind the Lockwood horse. He can settle much closer in the run and with that hitout under the belt, that can certainly eventuate, and his best is good enough.
Race 3. (13:30) Trident Serv. Australia Cup-C3 1200m
5 Amore Veloce (Bet Now: $4.20) has returned in really good order. Rob Heathcoate trained mare that has been strong in two runs back from a spell. Resumed with a dominant win at the Sunny Coast before racing here where she attempted to lead all the way and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when a game third to Fumiko. I reckon with a bunny to chase, she’ll be more effective.
6 Deep Rouge (Bet Now: $2.20) tends to race very well early on in a prep so it wasn’t a total shock she won fresh a fortnight back. Got back to near last in the run but railed up, saved all the ground and drove hard late to win impressively. 1/1 second up and it seems she is quite effective in short course races.
8 Hakkai Maru (Bet Now: $10.00) is three weeks between runs for Louise White since racing at this track/distance where she attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite measure up and tired late behind Extremist, who was dynamic last Saturday in winning again. Form reads well.
Race 4. (14:10) Lite N' Easy (Bm90) 2212m
9 Otyrar (Bet Now: $2.70) to bounce back. Like most, I was keen on him two weeks ago here and he looked the winner when he presented, but in a battle with Red Wave, a 4.5kg weight swing, that ended up being the difference in a driving go. Gets weight relief now, hard fit, in form, he’ll do me.
1 Barade (Bet Now: $4.40) is three weeks between runs for Jack Bruce since contesting the Queensland Cup where he wasn’t exactly suited by the race shape but I thought he stuck to the task really well when fourth to Fun Fact, beaten just over a length. Been up forever it seems like but he continues to hold his form.
8 Traduce (Bet Now: $13.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. He ran two weeks back here over 1800m here where he just found the trip a bit sharp but stayed on and was a pass mark I thought behind Blacklog. All five career wins have come at this trip, so an improved showing is on the cards.
Race 5. (14:50) Channel 7 (Rs0mw) 1400m
9 Ang Pow (Bet Now: $2.15) is short but he looks the most likely. Bit of quality about his win at Newcastle two weeks ago when sitting off the speed before coming with a well timed run under JVO and he was miles too good for them, a field which had depth. Finds a thin 0MW so he’s clearly the one to beat.
Staying at 1400m is the knock with 13 I Want One (Bet Now: $17.00) but he has a decent engine under the hood. He was far from disgraced in a good form race at Newcastle two back before being freshened up and going to the Sunny Coast 1400m where he was flat footed when the sprint went on but kept on and was good in defeat. Hard to beat though in a thin race.
4 Mix (Bet Now: $6.00) should appreciate the rise to 1400m. Both runs back from a spell have come at this track. Pass mark for sure over 1000m fresh before going to 1200m two weeks ago and was good late from the back behind Fumiko. Hard fit now and up to an ideal trip, he’ll only run well.
Race 6. (15:30) Higgins Coatings Hcp 1600m
2 Brookhaven (Bet Now: $5.50) has returned very well and I think the rise to the mile is ideal. Resumed with a very strong maiden win over 1200m at the Sunny Coast before going to 1400m here two weeks ago and I thought he was excellent against the race shape when a closing third to the well tried Yellow Brick, who got it soft in front and was too strong late. Hard fit and up to the mile, he’ll take beating.
1 Yellow Brick (Bet Now: $2.35) will jump on the bunny and try his gut out. Lovely ride from Ben Thompson saw him the race mentioned above, where he got control in front and albeit was there to be run down, he had too good of a run in front and was strong late. Harder here, but commands respect.
8 Birdonawing (Bet Now: $13.00) has got the win on the board. Question being can she go on with it? That elusive maiden win came last Wednesday at Ipswich where she beat them up comfortably. Them being pretty average animals, so she needs to improve, but has always shown promise.
Race 7. (16:10) Canadian Club (Bm72) 1000m
4 Chinny Boom… (Bet Now: $1.50) just how good is she? Very sharp filly for Clinton Taylor that is simply too good for them up North so she comes to town. She comes here in the best possible form after smashing the track record at Rockhampton over 1050m last time, and did it without being fully extended. If she can stretch the brilliance to metro level, they can well and truly start thinking blacktype.
3 Palazzo Spirit (Bet Now: $9.00) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Dalrello in the early part of the Brisbane Carnival in April when down the track and plain behind Exo Lady. Given a good break, one soft trial to get ready…watch the market and see if it knows if he’s ready.
Beware the unbeaten horse with 6 Bring Me Kash (Bet Now: $15.00). 2/2 to start his career, the latest coming over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where he got a soft lead and was never getting beat from the home turn onwards. Good test here against some likely types, but he might be a good one.
Race 8. (16:53) Xxxx (Bm78) 1000m
2 Shamrock Lu (Bet Now: $3.90) is the straight bat option. Son of Hallowed Crown for Tony Gollan that ran at this track/distance three weeks ago where he got off the speed and made up good ground against the pattern when third to Le Palmier. Tempo looks like it will be hot here, so he’ll get his chance to sit off it and launch late.
3 Pizonie (Bet Now: $9.00) is working up to a win. He led and copped heat at the Sunny Coast last time but credit to him, he fought on really well, only to be nabbed late by Kisukano. To my eye, he’s a much better horse with a bunny to chase, so hopefully that eventuates.
10 Frederick The Dane (Bet Now: $5.00) will jump on the bunny and look to give his all. Led and just felt the pinch late fresh here behind Gemelon Bolt before racing here again two weeks back when leading at a solid clip and gave a strong kick but just felt the pinch behind Deep Rouge. Hard fit, he’ll give a bold sight.
Race 9. (17:30) Padua College Cup 1400m
5 Greyworm (Bet Now: $11.00) hasn’t won in a very long time, but gee I think he is set up to run a positive race at a price. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when leading with the big weight and battled on pretty well behind Turn On The Charm. Tumbles to 53.5kg after the claim, he’ll roll forward and lead, proving hard to run down.
2 Ligulate (Bet Now: $13.00) is hard to beat with his best. He ran over the mile here four weeks ago when back off the speed but stayed on and was good in defeat behind an in form Jetty. I like him back to 1400m and with a more genuine tempo, he can sit back and launch at them late.
1 Emerald Kingdom (Bet Now: $9.50) deserves another look. I was keen on him two weeks ago here, but Thornton just went too slow on him. He’s not a sit/sprint horse. He prefers a more rolling tempo and in the end, was beaten just under two lengths. Hopefully a more genuine tempo for him to bounce back.
Race 10. (18:12) Road To M.M. On Sale (Bm85) 1600m
3 Gave Us Up (Bet Now: $4.20) is flying for Barry Baldwin and I think the rise to the mile is perfect. He ran two weeks ago over 1400m here and was very good from near last on the turn, finishing a close up fourth to Hot Spring Gold. Great record at the trip and saves his best for Eagle Farm.
11 Linthorpe Lad (Bet Now: $4.40) looks really hard to beat for Kevin Kemp. He’s been good in two runs back from a spell. Was strong fresh at Toowoomba behind Rubamos when third before going to Eagle Farm where he was hailed as the winner but had to settle for a second to Zou De Moon. That form clearly reads well for this.
Any hint of old form from 8 Opacity (Bet Now: $10.00), he wins. Just a question of where he is at. Has been kept on ice since September 10 at Rosehill and didn’t fire a shot behind Pink Ivory. Now with Team Edmonds, his tick over trial was solid. Just needs luck from the tricky gate.
