Race 1. (12:52) Weslo Security Handicap (62) 1200m

3 Desired (Bet Now: $2.80) looks hard to beat here for a very much in form McEvoy camp. Peach steer from Vorster helped her win impressively at Murray Bridge two weeks ago over 1000m, finishing best in an impressive display. Her two wins have come over the short course. Can she stretch her brilliance to 1200m? If the answer is yes, she’s the likely winner.

Danger

4 Fox Gem (Bet Now: $2.90) looks a likely type. John Macmillan trained gelding that debuted a fortnight back at Murray Bridge where he lost sight of the bunny but he got going in the straight, he motored late when second to Water Into Wine. This isn’t a strong 64 and the small field helps.

Long Shot

2 Wheels Of Courage (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Richards/Moyle trained gelding that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Spring when close up in the Hill Smith Stakes in what was essentially an 1800m barrier trial. Likely has eyes on something during the Carnival so may need the run but was looking strong in a trial on Monday. Watch the market.

Race 2. (13:27) Dominant Handicap (62) 1500m

Back Me

2 Water Into Wine (Bet Now: $4.20) looks to be a talented animal for Team McEvoy and I think he can make it 2/2 to start his career. I thought there was a bit of quality about his debut win two weeks ago at Murray Bridge. He was a bit green nearer the inside but once he balanced up and found clear air, gee he lengthened nicely and was impressive. Off that, I think he’ll go close here.

Danger

4 Dingabledinga (Bet Now: $7.00) is a progressive three year old for the Jolly camp that hasn’t been too bad in two career outings. Solid fourth on debut at Gawler behind a Stakes class horse of the future IMO, I Am Bene. Then went to Oakbank last Wednesday where he loved the rise to 1400m and got better as the race went on, winning nicely. Hard to beat here.

Long Shot

6 Belle Of Yorkes (Bet Now: $11.00) gets another look for me. Market wanted her at Murray Bridge last time but she was just never a factor. Tailed off last and couldn’t get involved, only really getting warm late in the piece. She has the talent to win this. Just needs to be switched on upstairs.

Race 3. (14:02) Furphy Handicap (72) 1200m

Back Me

7 Lady Simone (Bet Now: $2.50) commands respect for Team Jolly. She was five weeks between runs when racing last Saturday at Gawler. Just lacked that hard fitness and in a sit/sprint, she wasn’t entirely suited when second to Lady Dunmore. Fitter, she appeals. Just has to produce positive form away from Gawler.

Danger

5 Lianne (Bet Now: $4.20) has found her best since joining Jordan Frew. Couple of impressive wins from as many runs, both wins coming over 1200m at Murray Bridge, and each time she has been impressive and dominant. Good test for her here, but I am confident she can measure up again.

Long Shot

4 Stan The Caddy (Bet Now: $17.00) is a son of Rebel Raider for Will Clarken that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since August 7 when racing over 2000m at Murray Bridge when on speed and he looked to be going sweetly in front, but tired late when fourth. Can sprint well fresh and has trialled nicely to get ready.

Race 4. (14:37) Adelaide Cup Day March 14 Handicap (68) 1100m

Back Me

I’ll take a chance with 4 Spin The Reward (Bet Now: $3.80), a Peter Hardacre trained gelding who comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since November 27 when far from disgraced at this track behind a Stakes performed mare, Smokin’ Val. Two time track/distance winner and races well with fresh legs.

Danger

2 Secret War (Bet Now: $3.10) loves racing at Gawler so racing away from there is the query and the last little bit will test, especially if there is juice in the track. He looked home when racing at Gawler three weeks back but wanted to drift about under pressure and got the staggers to run third. If the track is dynamite on speed, he’s the one to beat.

Long Shot

6 Ultimate Victory (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Peter Blanch trained four year old that is three weeks between runs since a strong win at Gawler, sitting off the speed and coming with a well timed run under Pannell to get the win. Form out of that was franked last Saturday, so he’s a definite threat here.

Race 5. (15:12) Grand Syndicates Handicap (82) 1600m

It’s hard to get away from 2 Bea Tempted (Bet Now: $2.90). Formerly with Patrick Payne but is now with David Jolly. Four weeks between runs since giving her rivals an absolute spanking at Murray Bridge over 1800m, winning by a space and doing it with plenty in hand to the eye. Fresh legs and back to the mile is a little query but hard to ignore last start.

Danger

3 Saccharo (Bet Now: $3.60), despite being a Victorian, has done his recent racing at this track, with his past two runs being here. Latest run came over a month ago when beaten narrowly at this track/distance behind a progressive mare, Picaroon. Has to be respected against this lot.

Long Shot

4 Pearl Bandit (Bet Now: $7.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. He comes through the Night Passage race from two weeks back at Murray Bridge. He seemingly had a good run in transit but when asked for the big effort, he didn’t find much. He loves racing here and has a good third up record so an improved showing is on the cards.

Race 6. (15:52) Fleurieu Milk Company Handicap (0MW) 1600m

Fitter and up to 1800m are two big ticks for 3 Cowley’s Creek (Bet Now: $9.50). Had a good stint in Darwin before coming to SA. Ran at the midweeks at Oakbank and was very good from near last behind Zip Akeed, clearly looking like a horse that would eat up a bigger track and more ground, which he gets here.

Danger

4 Morty (Bet Now: $3.60) is knocking on the door to win one. He ran last Saturday at Gawler where he looked to be going sweetly in the run but as soon as pressure was applied, the wheels were spinning on wet ground but plugged on okay when third to Montign. Firmer footing here, he can bounce back.

Long Shot

6 Frankel Star (Bet Now: $7.50) is knocking on the door to win. I liked him at Gawler three weeks back but unfortunately he got caught wide no cover for the trip. To his credit, he fought on quite bravely when a close up fourth to Montign. He is a horse who races best with a sit and cover, so hopefully that can eventuate for him here.

Race 7. (16:32) The Junction Handicap (68) 1800m

Back Me

5 Cuban State (Bet Now: $3.50) looks the pony to bet on. If you were with him at Warrnambool last time, apologies for bringing up the nightmare. He should have won, but just had no luck in the straight in getting clear when seemingly full of running. He is racing well and deserving of a win. Gets his chance.

Danger

9 African Awesome (Bet Now: $11.00) is knocking on the door to win one. Looked like it would at Murray Bridge last time out and as he was being hailed as the winner, Charlton drove hard late under Vorster and wanted it more. Been around the mark this prep. Gets a great chance to get a win on the board.

Long Shot

8 Charlton (Bet Now: $27.00) is a veteran who got a Saturday metro win on the board two weeks back at Murray Bridge, landing bets at a big price, with help via a very much in form Barend Vorster, who got a suck run behind the speed and finished best late. The key being can he back it up.

2 Kemalpasa (Bet Now: $4.20) is an absolute beauty for Team Jolly that resumes, having not raced since the Linlithglow when on speed and fought hard, but was nailed late by Justacanta in a tight go. Looked to go well in a recent Strathalbyn jumpout, he’ll put himself into the race and get every chance.

Danger

I think class will carry 1 Behemoth (Bet Now: $1.40) a long way towards victory. I’m not sure he has winning Group l days left in him, but at around this level, at home, he’s going to take beating. Had a three run Spring prep, highlighted by a Memsie win, but I will say that as a whole, the form out of that stunk. He’s not the horse he was 18 months-2 years ago, but he doesn’t need to be at that level to win here IMO.

Long Shot

7 Kenyan Wonder (Bet Now: $27.00) is flying for Ryan Balfour and will take beating here. Ran over 1200m two weeks ago at Murray Bridge and produced an outstanding finale from last in the run when fourth to the in form Lianne. She won’t be as far away this time around so she’ll be closer and launch late.

Race 9. (17:52) Happy 50th Tim Phelan Handicap (64) 1200m

Back Me

9 Galaxy Keeper (Bet Now: $6.00) should be suited back up in trip. Was 1300m back to 1000m at Murray Bridge last time out where she got a mile out of her ground but really liked the way she finished her race off behind Desired. She has been hit and miss in her short career to date, but off last start, she’ll take beating.

Danger

7 Obi (Bet Now: $4.20) is such a frustrating horse to follow because he does have city class ability. He just keeps finding one or two better on the day, which was the case again last time out at Cranbourne when a close up fourth. $5 to $3.70 was a positive sign from a market perspective and that sort of form can measure up here for sure.

Long Shot

4 Love Magic (Bet Now: $12.00) is nine years of age but is seemingly racing as well as ever. Around a month between runs since racing at Bordertown where he got a suck run behind the speed and presented to win but had to settle for second, his third straight runner up effort. Not sure he wins here, but a first four threat.
