28/12/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gosford, Gosford Guineas day

6 Concello (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like she goes pretty good for Chris Waller. Has been strong in two career outings, catching the eye on debut at Canterbury over 1250m before stepping up to the mile at Hawkesbury where she relished the step up and gee she was dominant late the way she drew clear. Better for that 1600m run under the belt, she’s the winner if she handles the tight track.

2 Last Ditch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) Effort comes here off a win so in that regard, he commands some level of respect. That win came at Kembla over 1500m when on speed throughout before being clicked up by Collett and the gelding really gapped them late in a sharp display. Not sure he beats the favourite but goes well regardless.

3 Fleet Commander (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Bjorn Baker trained galloper that returns to racing as a gelding, having not raced since July 20 over 2000m at Kembla when down the track behind Vincenzo. Two 1000m+ trials to get ready for his return, I’d be including him in wider multiples at a decent price.

2 Externus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me. Formerly with Jake Hull, he now finds himself with Damien Lane and he looks to be on song for a first up win. This gelding last raced over 1400m at Tamworth when near the speed and had every chance I thought when fourth to Mr Scorefield. That was over 1400m and I reckon now with Lane, he is being trained as a sprinter. Trial win was sharp and if he runs up to that, he’s the one to beat.

12 Tonix (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Exceed And Excel for Maher/Eustace on debut. He looks like he will get better with time and a rise in trip. He’s had three trials this prep to get ready for start one and has been solid without jumping up and down. Blinkers on for the debut signals some level of intent and he maps to do no work.

3 Let’s Go Johnny (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Dissident for Rodney Bailey that is on debut. This guy has had two trials to get ready for start one and has seemingly moved well enough to my eye, winning his latest trial at this track in okay style. This race, on paper, looks open, so he doesn’t need to be anything special to measure up IMO.

Happy to take a chance with 13 The Black Cloud (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who is on debut for Joe Pride. This filly has had two trials this time in to get ready for start one, winning the latest at Hawkesbury when leading throughout and what I liked is that when she was clicked up, she showed nice change up speed to win well with something in hand. There is depth to this maiden but I think she goes pretty good.

10 Hokusai (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to break her maiden tag. This filly has been solid in two runs back, resuming with a second to subsequent multiple city winner Gitalong at Hawkesbury before going to Canterbury where she attempted to lead throughout but copped heat on speed and just felt the pinch late when fourth behind To The Extreme. If she finds the front and gets some level of control, she’ll take running down.

14 Wezza (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a great price if you are one that always backs a horse post Cardiac Arrhythmia. She was met with good market support when resuming in the To The Extreme race mentioned above. She was off the bit 600m out and found nothing, with the clear excuse coming up post race. Trialled very well prior to that so I think you have to give her another look.

6 Mission Value (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance at a decent price. Joe Pride trained gelding that was specked at odds when resuming over 1250m under the lights at Canterbury where he got dragged back from the wide gate and was trying to make a run into the race but didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight and should have been right in the finish behind Karedada. If he can use the inside gate to advantage and settle closer, he’ll be knocking late.

10 Growl (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Written Tycoon for Team Snowden that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since October 25 on the Kenso when down the track and didn’t fire a shot at all behind a promising animal, Cloudland. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and his recent Hawkesbury trial behind Shalailed was a good piece of work.

11 Outreach To Henry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. This gelding is just under four weeks between runs since sitting on speed at Rosehill and credit to him, he tried his guts out but just lacked the quality to go with them late when fourth to Legio Ten. Massive drop in depth here, he’s a knockout hope.

Think sustained speed will come to the fore via 3 Royal Tribute (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who resumes for GaiBott. He hasn’t raced since the Spring when fourth in the Roman Consul after leading, seemingly having every chance. There is the query he could be a squib, but if this track is suiting those on speed, I think with a class edge, he gets home.

4 Fleetwood (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be an improver for James Cummings. He ran in the 3&4YO Magic Millions at Wyong where he seemed to get lost around the tight track and was never a factor behind impressive winner Royal Merchant. That said, it was his first run in a month so with room for improvement, I think his prior efforts suggested he can measure up in a race like this.

2 Sovereign Fund (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Capitalist that resumes for Team Snowden. He hasn’t raced since September 20 at the midweeks at Warwick Farm when far from disgraced in defeat behind Balkans despite having every chance. Looked strong in a 1050m trial win and at his best, he is good enough to be a rated as a knockout hope.

2 Lekvarte (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is humming for Joe Pride and it’s hard to get away from her. 2/2 this time in, the latest win being at Rosehill several weeks ago where she gave them a start and a beating, lumping 61.5kg to win and win so well. She’s better than benchmark 78 grade and was down to run recently at Randwick but has been kept on ice for this. Happy to be in her corner.

4 Zoe’s Promise (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has steadily got better with racing for Kris Lees and off a win, she has to be respected. That win came at Randwick over the mile where she had to fight for it late but in the end, Nash lifted her over the line to score. She has that 1600m run and win under the belt, which should hold her in good stead.

1 Finepoint (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run a much improved race for Chris Waller. This mare has been freshened up, having not raced since Dec 2 when down the track in the Festival behind Phearson, with the rider stating her action wasn’t 100%. Freshened up, tick over trial was strong, maps to do no work…she’s a big improver.

6 Satin And Silk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me in the get out. Team Snowden trained mare that seems a short course specialist so she is suited to 1000m. Dominant win over 900m at Scone two back before going to this track/distance where she was on speed throughout and doing work but just felt the pinch late behind Temple Run. Gets Winkers on to try and sharpen her up furthermore, she looks the leader and will take running down.

4 Field Wiri (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Deep Field for Team Freedman that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Sep 2 when a close up fourth at Hawkesbury, getting back in the run and making up decent headway. She is a mare who can sprint well on the fresh side and her recent trial work was sharp so keen to see how she goes.

2 Another Cognac (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hit and miss at times but his best is more than good enough. Bryce Heys trains this son of Zoustar, who ran several weeks back in the Midway at Randwick when near the speed and seemingly had his chance I thought behind Terra Mater. He does seem more effective when ridden with a sit so if that can eventuate here, he’ll be dangerous I am sure.
