27/1/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Carrington Stakes day

Ten races have been set down for Randwick on Saturday for Carrington Stakes Day. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.

6 Switzerland (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred colt for Chris Waller that is on debut. He was down to debut last Saturday but didn’t get a run so instead comes here for start one. His recent trial at Rosehill was a lovely piece of work, closing off with purpose from off the speed and seemed to have a bit in hand. Stable have been awfully quiet with their juveniles…is this guy the one to kick start the stable towards a Golden Slipper defence?

2 Deputize (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was nominated for the Blue Diamond Preview and instead debuts here. He trialled at Rosehill and moved well, winning nicely, and I was thinking he’d be right in the mix for Caulfield but instead comes here and this isn’t a deep 2YO race so I’d watch the market.

8 And Found (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Microphone that is on debut. This girl has had a few trials to get ready for start one, with a spell in between. The latest trial was last week at Warwick Farm where she won seemingly moved well enough to my eye to suggest she has talent, enough to take out a race like this, so watch the market.

7 Decadent Tale (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks suited up to the mile for Jason Deamer. He ran two weeks ago over 1500m in a Midway at Rosehill where she got back off the speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort behind Patrika Mist, who was given a 12/10 steer and was too good on speed. Hard fit now, up in trip, bigger track…she looks hard to beat.

2 Jumeirah Beach (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. Team Freedman trained gelding that ran in the Midway at Rosehill last time where he was ridden with intent on speed and tried his guts out but just didn’t have the finale to go with Patrika Mist late, finishing second. He was 1800m back to 1500m so I think back up in trip, he appeals.

12 Bluff N Bluster (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. This guy ran behind Patrika Mist in the Midway two weeks back at Rosehill where he got back near last in the run and made up some headway but was never really threatening behind the impressive all the way winner. He’s a hard horse to catch at times but his best is good enough to be around the mark.

9 Swift Charm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a leading contender. Brett Dodson trained gelding that resumed a fortnight back in a Rosehill Highway where he was simply no match for a sharp Penthouse, but he stayed on and was good in defeat. Rarely runs poorly early on in a prep and fitter, up to 1200m, he only runs well I’d suggest.

2 Accapella Sun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Matty Dale trained mare that is four weeks between runs since racing at 1100m here when contesting a solid Mares race and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Either Oar. Much better suited at Highway level and despite 1200m being a stretch, she has class and the claim.

1 Overlord (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a handy animal when right. He resumes for Gayna Williams, having not raced since Sep 13 at Canterbury when down the track and outclassed. Likely has eyes on the Country Championships and he looked strong in a recent trial win at Orange win, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.

1 Glory Daze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He is five weeks between runs since resuming at this track/distance when on speed throughout and he gave a very strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Grebeni, who will go around in the Autumn as a Carnival contender, so the form reads well and with good upside, he appeals.

2 Battleton (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. He ran two weeks ago in the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast where he got back and wide, was never really a threat, but I liked the way he found the line in defeat behind Semana. He’s racing like a rise to 1600m will suit and this is a significant drop in depth.

4 Redstone Well (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like he has an engine under the hood. Annabel Neasham trained import that made his Australian debut three weeks back over 1400m here where he got back in the run and was run off his legs but his finale was more than sound late in the piece behind Excelladus. Might want one more and a further rise in trip, but the first up effort suggests he has talent.

I am convinced that 5 Castillian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying and with better luck in the run, he’s going to be hard to hold out. I was keen on him last Wednesday on the Kenso where they rolled the dice in trying to go forward but unfortunately he got stuck wide no cover and he did a remarkable job to get as close as he did when third. If that hasn’t busted him, he’s the winner.

6 Don Pedro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be suited up in trip for Bjorn Baker. This three year old ran over 1300m a fortnight back at Rosehill where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent kick but couldn’t quite see it through when third to High Blue Sea. Has run well at the mile previously and has upside, as well as a good racing style. Leading chance.

11 Ambassadors (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good racing style and is racing well. He ran three weeks back here when attempting to lead throughout and credit to him, he gave a sight, but just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Buillt. Looks the leader here and if he gets some form of control, he’ll take running down.

6 Louisville (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. He was knocking on the door without winning but that changed at Rosehill two weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best in a strong display. He races as if he will eat up 2000m and off a win, he’s going to take beating against these.

9 Aristonous (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been disappointing his past two so for mine, he’s at his D-Day. Too bad to be true behind So United two back here before trialling. He then went to Rosehill when back off the speed and kept chasing but for the most part, I thought he was a bit disappointing behind Louisville. Back to Randwick, hard fit and at 2000m…D-Day.

7 Caboche (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be suited back up to 2000m for Chris Waller. Placed behind Naval College two back at this track/distance before coming back to 1800m at Rosehill where he got back off the speed and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort behind stablemate Louisville. Back up in trip, bigger track, he appeals.

13 Cuban Royale (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a greybeard for Team Price but he is an absolute beauty. He ran in the Rubamos race from two weeks back at Rosehill where he was far from disgraced in defeat from behind the speed, beaten a length by the Waller gelding in a blanket finish. He has a fab second up record and he is a much better horse at Randwick vs Rosehill. Only runs well for mine.

8 Zou Tiger (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for John O’Shea. This guy just looked in need of the run fresh in the Canterbury Classic behind Insurrection before going to Rosehill where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Rubamos. Hard fit, and I reckon with a bunny to chase, he’ll be more effective.

7 Rubamos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) appeals. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumed with a bang when winning at Rosehill a fortnight back, giving them a start and a beating, launching late to finish over the top and just get the win over Zou Tiger. He has good room for improvement and up to 1400m, he is a key threat.

3 Legio Ten (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back. He is three weeks between runs for James Cummings since racing at this track/distance where he got back to near last in the run and yes, was held up for a few strides, but for the most part, he was quite disappointing behind Kinloch. The first up run was a beauty, winning, so off that, he can bounce back here.

10 Union Army (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but he clearly has an engine under the hood, as seen a fortnight back at Rosehill where he gave them a start and a beating, producing outstanding late splits to win and win well. The potential is there to be Stakes class but mentally, he’s not quite all there in terms of race craft but he is getting better and is clearly a leading contender.

5 Fire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Hawkes trained gelding that can bounce back. He resumed three weeks back over 1000m here where he got back and was spotting those in front a tidy start. He made up some headway and was solid enough in defeat behind Tintookie. Like him up to 1200m and is dangerous if he can settle closer.

3 Crafty Eagle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race for John Thompson. They rode him too warm at Randwick four weeks ago over the mile, sitting on speed vs being ridden cold, and it didn’t work, finishing down the track behind Miracle Spin. He’s much better suited when he has a bunny to chase so if that can eventuate here, he’ll take holding out.

2 High Blue Sea (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a promising animal for Ryan/Alexiou. He resumed over 1300m at Rosehill and produced one of the wins of the meeting, giving them a start and a beating in an electric return. Is he Stakes class? Potentially, but if so, he needs to keep going through his grades. Hard to beat here, but at the price, he is on the short side.

5 Starman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch at times but his best is good enough to be dangerous. He ran third to Testator Silens a fortnight back where he got a dream run in transit and seemingly had every chance but that said, he was far from disgraced when third to the Joe Pride galloper. His best can see him win this. Just needs to show it again.

7 Tashi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Sebring for Team Snowden that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Sep 13 at Canterbury when just off the speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort when a narrow second to Sweet Baby Boom. She is a mare who sprints well on the fresh side and has trialled up really well in readiness. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

3 Either Oar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in super order and rates as one of the leading chances. She resumed with a strong win over 1100m here before going to Rosehill where she was ridden with a sit and found the line well enough without threatening behind Diamond Dealer. Third up now so she should be hard fit and with a half positive steer, she’ll take beating.

8 Wingardium (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout for Bjorn Baker. This mare resumed under the lights at Canterbury where she got into a decent spot behind the speed and angled clear to be a winning threat, but had no answers for the brilliant finale of Dakota Vroom, who I think is Stakes class, so that form reads well and with good upside, she’s in with a shout.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 6 Switzerland

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 13 Cuban Royale
