Nine races have been set down for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:53) Country Music Raceday 9/9 (C3) 1050m
1 Devastating (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it for the in form Tony Gollan camp. He was somewhat of a market drifter a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm but after getting a cheap run on speed, he was always going to be hard to beat and in a sprint home, he was much too good. Hard fit, in form, good racing style, he’ll take beating once again.
2 Hard To Say (Bet Now: $SP.00) has run well at Brisbane previously and has the runs on the board to say he’s hard to beat against these. Resumed three weeks back in a Midway at Rosehill where sustained speed came to the fore, leading throughout and was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to win. Harder here, but good racing style and will look the winner for a long way.
7 Blue Spinel (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here in ripping form. Three on the bounce and looking to make it four here.Hasn’t raced since July 29 when a narrow but strong winner at Eagle Farm, aided by a peach from Jones, who remains on here. Tricky gate to overcome but hard to knock the way she’s racing.
Race 2. (12:28) Cascade (Bm90) 2000m
2 Fifth Position (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the winner if he brings his best. The question is whether he will bring it up from Melbourne. His form tapered off towards the end of his stint with Price/Kent, the latest run seeing him finish down the track behind Young Werther. This looks well within his reach and the stable are good when it comes to cast offs.
Last time 5 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $SP.00) won, Moses was parting the sea, but he is an honest animal for Chris Waller that should be around the mark. He ran over 1800m two weeks back at Eagle Farm and was as honest as ever, chipping away in a pretty good effort behind Tony Be. Has placed at the track/distance previously and does strike a winnable race.
6 Mubariz (Bet Now: $SP.00) doesn’t win out of turn but does strike a winnable staying contest. Three weeks between runs since racing over 2200m at Eagle Farm where he attempted to lead throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t sustain the run when second to Otyrar. Think with a bunny to chase, he’ll be more effective.
Race 3. (13:03) Sky Racing (Bm70) 1350m
3 Corona Lad (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. Ashley Perks trained gelding that resumed a few weeks back at Eagle Farm and did more than enough behind Zarastro. Race wasn’t run to suit, he got back and did make up ground without threatening. Like him up in trip and has a great second up record.
4 Gaius (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands some level of respect for Mark Currie. He ran in a solid Class 6 over 1500m a fortnight back at Eagle Farm and just forget he went around. He had zero luck in the straight when seemingly having something in the locker so forgive and forget he went around. He’s racing quite well and can bounce back big time.
15 Airstrike (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Barry Lockwood trained mare that should be around the mark. She ran over 1200m at the Sunny Coast last time out where she got back in the run and spotted those in front a decent start but really liked the way she finished her race off when second to Chilliwack. 1350m, I think, will be okay, and dangerous if within range on the turn.
Race 4. (13:38) Spring Carnival On Sale Now-C3 1600m
4 Red Top (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the straight bat option for me in an open race. Team Sears trained four year old that comes here in winning form after winning at the midweeks at Eagle Farm where he looked a moral on paper and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and he was too good. Gets in well after the claim and is a proven Saturday class horse.
On paper, 1 Ashgrove (Bet Now: $SP.00) from gate 20 looked a nightmare but with the scratchings, he gets in okay and should just about be at peak fitness. He comes back up to the mile after racing over 1500m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back when just finding them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat. The depth is nowhere near as strong…he is getting towards last chance territory.
6 Smytzer (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one for exotics. He was kept safe in betting at odds three weeks back over 1400m when ridden with intent to land on speed and he tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Hokahey, but for the most part, was far from disgraced. Like him up to the mile and with a more conservative steer, I think he will be far more effective.
Race 5. (14:13) Xxxx Plate (C6) 1350m
12 Viminele (Bet Now: $SP.00) has solid enough form around him to give this a shake. He ran over 1400m a fortnight back at Eagle Farm and credit to him, he dug in big time. Kanazawa is a milk drinker so getting past him wasn’t difficult but he is lightly raced and heading in the right direction. Harder here, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
5 Release The Beans (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a model of consistency that should be around the mark for Rob Heathcoate. He ran in the Canadian Dancer race mentioned above where he was coming off a win a week prior and ran well, but was held on the line by the mare. Like him back to Doomben and with a kind map in his corner, he appeals.
2 Rock Amore (Bet Now: $SP.00) might want one more run but his best is certainly good enough. He is four weeks between runs since resuming at Eagle Farm where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind stablemate Black On Beauty. He is a track/distance winner and maps to do no work. Not penning him yet.
Race 6. (14:48) Brc M'ship On Sale Now (Bm78) 1200m
7 Vodka Martini (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the straight bat option. He has won two on the bounce, the latest coming two weeks ago at Eagle Farm over 1000m where he was on speed throughout and was there to be beaten but he found and was strong to the line. 1200m, I think, is okay, and drawn soft, he only runs well IMO.
10 Coco Rox (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat here. She spanked them in a moderate Class 6 at Grafton two back before going to Eagle Farm when attempting to lead throughout and couldn’t quite finish off, beaten five lengths by Black On Beauty. I think with a bunny to chase, she’ll be far more effective. Also think back to a tighter track is another big tick.
9 Boncassie (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands some level of respect for Brett Bellamy. Big win from the mare last time at Coffs in the Daniel Baker Sprint when wide no cover but she found under pressure and was too strong. Maps ideally…doubt she wins but can run top four.
Race 7. (15:23) Ladbrokes Mates 3Yo 1200m
5 Deep Respect (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like he has got an engine under the hood for Kelly Schweida. Market was somewhat against him late when debuting here at the midweeks but still remained favourite and he didn’t let his supporters down with a dominant win, giving them a start and a beating. Good test here against some likely types but confident he measures up.
6 The Player (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m. Chris Munce trained three year old that resumed over 1000m a fortnight back at Eagle Farm and was a real eye catcher, launching late to just miss out on the win when a narrow second to Miss Coota. Yet to prove herself at 1200m but is racing like she will eat it up and off the return, is hard to beat.
1 Spin Doctor (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a horse I have plenty of time and I think he can resume with a win for O’Dea/Hoysted. He had a two run Autumn prep to start his career, winning like a gun on debut at Eagle Farm before placing in the 2YO Jewel here and was spelled soon after. Trial work has been strong and first up at 1200m tells me there is intent.
Race 8. (16:02) Drinkwise Hcp 1200m
1 Snowzone (Bet Now: $SP.00) tends to save his best for Doomben and returning here, he’s got to be respected. He actually won away from here last time when a strong on speed winner at the Sunny Coast. Ridden with intent from Mallyon over 1200m, he was too good for them in a nice effort. Good record at the track and off a win, commands respect.
8 Spaceboy (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give them something to chase. He ran over 1200m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but just found the Eagle Farm straight a long one, run down late by Ned’s Gully. Better suited at Doomben, he’ll take running down.
5 Wapiti (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Just a bit on the plain side two back in the Ipswich Cup before coming back to the mile here where he got back to near last in the run and was never really a factor when down the track behind Baanone. They’ve freshened up, starting again…his best is clearly good enough. Watch the market.
Race 9. (16:38) Gallopers Sports Club (Bm85) 1600m
2 Point Counterpoint (Bet Now: $SP.00) will do me in the get out for Stirling Osland. Somewhat thrown in the deep end when resuming in the Coffs Harbour and while he didn’t win, I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat. Much weaker race this time around and with enormous upside, he’ll do me.
9 Hokahey (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for Jack Bruce and is one of the key chances. Lovely ride from Collett saw her win two back over 1400m at Eagle Farm before stepping up to 1500m there a fortnight back where she tried her guts out but had no answers for Hot Spring Gold. Racing like a rise to 1600m suits and does strike a very winnable race here IMO.
8 Canadian Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and commands respect. Just needed the run two back behind Skidamarink before going to 1400m at Eagle Farm a few weeks back where they rode with intent and that won the race for her, being able to steal a march on Kinloch and just holding on. Good upside to come, she rates highly.
