Nine races have been set down for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:03) Teddy Bears Picnic 2 August Hcp 1110m
6 Dragon Link (Bet Now: $SP.00) to make a winning debut. Matty Hoysted trained son of Farnan that is on debut off the back of a sharp trial win last week at the Gold Coast where he won by just under four lengths and ran good time. He’ll land near the speed and takes beating.
7 Boomshanka (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Tony Gollan trained filly that resumes. She had a fair bit of hype about her during the Autumn with eyes towards the Jewel but didn’t quite live up to the hype. Spelled, trialled well leading in, watch betting.
2 Destiny’s Summit (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to town for Brian Gentle after two wins on the bounce, the latest coming over 1200m at Beaudesert where he gave them a start, made a sustained run and was much too good for his rivals in the run to the line. Good test here but confident he measures up.
Race 2. (12:38) Eagle Farm 160 Years Raceday (Bm85) 1615m
2 Weigall Tiger (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. Kelly Schweida trained gelding that won last Wednesday at Doomben. Credit to him, he was on speed and there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and score. Good racing style, and despite the 1600m query, he strikes a winnable race.
5 Space Age (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with his best. He ran two weeks back at this track/distance when attempting to lead all the way. He battled away well enough in defeat but did seem to have his chance behind Tuff To Mus. I think maybe with a bunny to chase. he’ll be more effective.
3 Skyforger (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing very well for Pat Webster and is a key threat. He ran a narrow second in the Rockampton Cup last time, getting the sweet sit in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Small field helps and he can take this out.
Race 3. (13:13) Mekka Raceday 16 August (Bm70) 1615m
14 Jillaroo (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look for Ciaron Maher after a last start track/distance flop, where she looked terrible, but was found post race to have had the Thumps, so a clear forgive. Prior efforts were strong, so with that in mind, she is a leading chance.
2 Heman (Bet Now: $SP.00) deserves another look for Team Munce after an absolute flop of a run last start at Ipswich where he was just too bad to be true, with connections saying he didn’t handle the small track so bigger track here, he appeals and cna run a much improved race.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 13 Pleadeel (Bet Now: $SP.00). She resumed over 1350m here two weeks back where she found them a bit sharp but didn’t mind the way she finished her race off in defeat behind Sultry Siren. Might need another and 2000m+ but off the return, she’s in the mix.
Race 4. (13:48) Brc Community Venues Hcp 1615m
4 Victory Flame (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned really well and is one of the hardest to beat after a first up win at Eagke Farm where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best and score. Good upside/improvement to come and up in trip, he appeals.
1 Apuntar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Winx Guineas at the Sunny Coast where he was safely held by The Three Hundred but credit to him that he stuck on really well to finish third. Only has to hold his form and he’ll be around the mark.
2 I’m Heroic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the quick back up for Desleigh Forster after racing last Wednesday in the Grafton Guineas where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. If within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
Race 5. (14:23) Moreton Hire Plate (C3) 1200m
10 End Assembly (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Mark Currie. He ran second to Hawker Hall a fortnight back here, sitting outside that horse and tried hard to reel him in but had to settle for a narrow second. Ready tow in and up in trip, he appeals.
2 Jonny Da Walf (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice type for Team Munce. He resumed with an absolute bang a fortnight back at the Gold Coast, leading throughout, spanked them and ran time. That was enough to send him straight to town and the scratchings has thinned this race out.
5 Runwiththetide (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and has to be respected. He won here last Wednesday and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found late and was strong to the line. Good racing style, he appeals.
Race 6. (15:02) U&U Recruitment (Bm78) 2200m
9 Ahuriri (Bet Now: $SP.00) has lengths on these if she brings her best. She hasn’t raced since June 11 on the Kenso at Randwick when a battling fourth to Tympanist, but her recent Gold Coast tick over trial last week was quite strong and class wise, ability wise, I think she has panels on these.
6 Philipsburg (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a leading contender. James Ponsonsby trained gelding that ran over 2000m here two weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never really a winning threat, I loved the way he closed off late in the piece in a good effort in defeat behind Zoology. Up in trip, can settle closer. he takes beating.
11 Bengal Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2200m after racing fourth to Zoology two weeks back here. He was back in the run and did make up decent headway without threatening, clocking decent late splits. He should be fine at 2200m and commands respect.
Race 7. (15:42) Xxxx Gold (Bm85) 1350m
7 Cunnamulla Fella (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned in really good order and should take beating here. He resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago and worked home with real purpose from off speed, finding the line really well when second to Goldsborough. Fitter and up in trip, he’s the one they have to beat.
1 Swiss Exile (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat for Team Archibald after racing fourth to Goldsborough a fortnight back. He lobbed into a good spot near the speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch. His best is good enough and like him up in trip.
5 Corfe Castle (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1200m here two weeks back behind Goldsborough. He got back to near last in the run and was never really a factor. Great track/distance record, he can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 8. (16:18) Sky Racing Hcp 1200m
1 Metalart (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Kelly Schweida that is several weeks between runs since letting down with purpose from off speed to take out the Healy at Eagle Farm, proving too good. He’s got the runs on the board and is the one to beat.
4 Nettuno (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable for Tony Gollan. He ran three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast over 1000m when off speed and kept chasing but was never really threatening Chakra Boy. Up to 1200m is fine IMO and outside Metalart, it’s a thin contest.
5 At Witz End (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form…can he go on with it? Big win last Thursday in the Sir James Kirby at Grafton, giving them a start and a beating over the short course. Like him back up to 1200m, he should prove hard to beat.
Race 9. (16:50) Ladbrokes Odds Surge Hcp 1350m
1 Mister Bianco (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the winner if he jumps clean. He didn’t jump clean two weeks ago and that sealed his fate, along with not getting the clearest of paths in the straight but was strong late when eventually clear. If he holds his form, I think he wins.
2 Savour The Dream (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality animal for Bevan Laming that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since the Rosehill Guineas where it was an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Broadsiding. Fresh at 1350m I like and he has class/quality about him.
5 Estrondo (Bet Now: $SP.00) lands on speed and is good enough. He attempted to lead throughout two weeks back here and gave a decent kick from the front but just felt the pinch late. Not sure he is a horse I could back to win but is a first four threat.
