A bumper card of racing has been assembled for Ascot on Saturday for Quokka Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:19) Schweppes (Bm72+) 1600m
3 Trio (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps back up to the mile and that is the reason he is on top. He was 1600m to 1400m when racing two weeks ago and he just found them a tad sharp late in the piece behind Without Reg. I think back up in trip is a big tick and Pike does stick.
2 Zephyra (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third to Without Reg in the race mentioned above. She got off speed but got a drag into the race and loomed to win. Didn’t get there but stayed on and was sound in defeat when third. Like her back up in distance and is a key threat.
6 Western Power (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is taking on much harder company but is a horse on the up after a win last Saturday when wide no cover but he was just simply too good for them. Good test here agains likely types but think he can measure up.
Race 2. (13:54) Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) 1000m
3 Wicked Venom (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks prepped for a first up assault. He hasn’t raced since Dec 29 at at Bunbury over 1100m when getting the suck run in behind and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Oracle Son. Given a good break and he went like a rocket in a recent trial. Keen to see how he goes.
1 Tawkin Jibberish (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is holding her form really well at the moment and commands respect. She ran over this track/distance a few weeks ago when attempting to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but couldn’t quite finish the job. Lands on speed and takes running down.
2 Some Sort (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has run well in town previously so keen to see how he goes. He hasn’t raced since Feb 14 at Esperance when attempting to lead throughout and gave a sight but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch. First four contender.
Race 3. (14:29) Belhus Racing Stables 30Th Anniversary (Bm66+) 1800m
4 Be Bardot (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. Team Williams trained mare that got a Pike special to win here two weeks ago, slicing her way through the field and charged to the line to score. Her confidence is up, she can go on with it here in a winnable race.
7 Grand Reserve (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1800m for Dan Morton after racing over 1500m here a fortnight back. He got into a decent spot off speed and was there to threaten but just whacked in the run to the line, racing like a rise in trip will suit. Dangerous.
6 Strike Now (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing over the mile here where he got back in the run and was never really a factor behind Trio. He is a track/distance winner and his best is more than good enough.
Race 4. (15:04) Mca Polytrack (Bm66+) 1400m
7 Lova Session (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) seems the straight bat play here. She just missed out on the win a fortnight back here, sitting off speed before being presented clear air and worked home with real purpose late in the piece behind Knot Secret. She’ll spot them a start but think she can launch over the top.
5 Deferred (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been a model of consistency for Simon Miller and does get Tim Clark to steer. She ran over this track/distance a fortnight back when off speed and chased strongly but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Without Reg. Back to this level, she appeals.
8 Hang Glider (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) jumps straight to 1400m after racing over 1000m here two weeks back. He got back to near last in the run and was good late despite being held up at times in the straight. Straight to 1400m I do like and this isn’t a deep contest.
Race 5. (15:39) Quayclean Hcp 1400m
1 Sixinch Heels (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) picks herself I feel. She’s flying for Simon Miller, winning 4/4 this time in, the latest being two weeks ago over 1200m here when back in trip and gave them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. Back up in trip, she’s the one.
4 Pond Master (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran second to Sixinch Heels in the race mentioned above. He got back in the run and was held up at times before getting clear and finished off his race quite strongly in defeat when second. Fitter and up to 1400m, he takes beating.
2 Big Shots (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Luke Fernie trained three year old that resumes. He is first up, havng not raced since the WA Guineas when ridden with intent and failed to get involved when down the track behind Storyville. Given a good break, trial was good and has a touch of class.
Race 6. (16:19) Swan Draught (Rs1mw) 1200m
9 Camera Action (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to be sneaky flying for Team Casey and back to a fast run 1200m, I can see her finishing over the top. She ran over 1400m a few weeks ago here and was good late from off the speed behind Lova Session. Back to 1200m, Schiller on, she takes beating.
3 Shooting Spirit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over 1000m here last Saturday where he got a fair way back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he worked home with real purpose late in the piece. Back up in trip, can settle closer, he is a leading contender.
5 Banks Avenue (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to Ascot off a win at Belmont where he led throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he kicked strongly under pressure to fend them off and score. Harder here, but off that effort, racing style, he’s in the mix.
Race 7. (17:00) Karrakatta Plate 1200m
8 Yes Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the one. She was the eye catcher in the Gimcrack two weeks ago, ridden stone cold, and launched late, just missing out on the win when second to Talkanco. Like her up to 1200m and Pike sticks. The one to beat in an open edition.
All you can do is win and that is what 11 Snitzalatte (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done in two career outings. She won over 1000m here in good style on debut before stepping up to 1200m and was even more impressive. She has the 1200m run under the belt and Lucy Fiore is the form rider in WA at the moment.
2 Do I Feel Lucky (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the big improver. On face value, terrible in the Perth Stakes, but he had clear excuses given he clipped heels and lost all momentum and action in a total forgive. Dominant in the WA Magic Millions, don’t dismiss him.
Race 8. (17:45) The Quokka 1200m
1 Overpass (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) picks himself. He has won the two editions of The Quokka and he looks right on track to make it three. He resumed in the TJ Smith and ran out of his skin in defeat, landing in front and giving a mighty sight, only getting nabbed late by Briasa. Looks to be humming and this isn’t a deep race.
4 Crocetti (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a beauty from NZ and has a good racing style. He has the Alabama Lass form, a star from across the ditch and has proven herself down under, so the form does read well, and he does get Craig Williams to steer. Maps to settle handy and be strong late.
8 Rope Them In (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. He was a dominant winner two back at Albany before going to the Roma Cup where he got too far out of his ground but I really liked the way he closed his race off in defeat. Not sure he wins, but can run top four.
Race 9. (18:25) The Joey 1200m
2 Ripcord (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could be completely cast but I have to take a chance on him. He resumes after a pretty poor Carnival during the Summer where he teased but didn’t fire overall. Given a good break and his trial work to get ready for the return here has been strong.
1 Comfort Me (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited up to 1200m after resuming over 1100m in the Roma Cup where he just found them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind The Boss Lady. Fitter and up in trip, he lands on speed, he takes beating.
16 Yonga Lass (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Team Williams trained mare that resumes. She was similar to Ripcord during the Carnival. Teased but overall, she was quite poor. She does like racing at Ascot and a recent trial win suggested she’s ready to go.
Race 10. (19:05) Tabtouch (Rs1mw) 1500m
3 Mojo’s Luck (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can resume a winner here for Luke Fernie. He hasn’t raced since March 6 when giving them a start and a beating to win over 1400m here. Moved well in a trial last week and first up at 1500m here, to me, signals clear intent. Hopefully the market agrees.
2 Gage Roads (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing well for Steve Wolfe and should be around the mark. He ran over the mile here a fortnight back. He got into a decent spot just off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to Be Bardot. Lands in a good spot and is genuine.
4 Rocket Juice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran fifth to Be Bardot in the race mentioned above. He got off speed and seemed to have his chance but he battled away really well in defeat, not beaten too far. Not sure I coudl back him to win but is a first four contender.
