26/2/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, Tattersall’s Members Cup day

It’s well known that Les Ross and his gallopers, especially his juveniles, swim, so with that in mind, I’ll go with 3 Mishani Embrace (Bet Now: $2.45), who had been racing well without winning, but that all changed last time out at Toowoomba where she spanked them by eight lengths. Proven on wet ground, in form, 1350m should be fine, hard to beat.

5 Stuck In A Dream (Bet Now: $4.00) looks suited up to 1350m. Debuted for Kacy Fogden over 1000m at the Sunny Coast and caught the eye from off the speed when second to impressive winner Whistling Spirit. Bred to be okay on wet ground and the lead is that Wilson Taylor would have had a few options here but chooses this girl.

2 Toba (Bet Now: $10.00) looks to be a nice horse for the Lipp/Hahn camp. Debuted over 1200m at Ipswich in a race won by Ping. He just didn’t look happy around the tight track but once balanced up in the straight, his finale was quite good. Suited up in trip and is a definite winning chance.

7 Fortified (Bet Now: $4.80) is racing in okay form in Sydney at the moment and generally performing okay in Sydney equates to proving hard to beat in Brisbane. Just couldn’t dash quick enough at Randwick two weeks ago but stuck to the task pretty well in defeat behind Outlandos. He should take beating against this lot.

5 Kutayha (Bet Now: $6.00) is knocking on the door to win one for Chris Waller and can bounce back here off a somewhat plain effort behind Sayl at Doomben where he got a fair way out of his ground and just couldn’t get involved, finishing several lengths away. His best is certainly good enough.

10 Savvy Oak (Bet Now: $8.00) is a first four contender. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that comes through the Seat Of Power race from two weeks back where he was wide for the most part and doing work, just feeling the pinch late in an okay effort. More economical run this time around and he can sneak a first four spot.

10 Confessed (Bet Now: $4.20) is a query at the mile but she’s racing well for an in form camp. Strong winner two back over 1400m at Warwick Farm. Then came back to 1350m at Doomben and was okay late behind The Lioness, warming to the task late. She’s racing like 1600m suits. Just needs to prove it.

If there is no second up syndrome, then 8 Knight Mariner (Bet Now: $2.15) has to be seriously respected here. His firs run since July 2020 came over 1350m here two weeks ago and I thought he was fabulous in defeat in restricted room when a close up fourth to Cracker Essgee. Any hint of improvement and he’s the one to beat.

4 Warp Speed (Bet Now: $9.50) is getting close to D-Day but I do think he’s racing in solid enough form for Rob Heathcoate. Just ridden a touch too warm two back behind Profit. He then dropped a fair way back in grade/depth two weeks ago at this track/distance where he was there to win but just lacked the turn of foot to put the race away. Knocking on the door to win.

14 Jubai Pride (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing really well at the moment for John Gilmore. Strong winner two back over 1400m at the Sunny Coast before coming back to 1350m here and worked home strongly late when a close up second to The Lioness. Up to the mile, likes wet ground, she’ll take beating.

5 Magic Conqueror (Bet Now: $7.00) certainly has the talent to take this out. Just not 100% sure how well he’s going. He ran two weeks ago at this track/distance and I thought had his chance but was quite one paced in the straight when asked to go by Wilson-Taylor. Fourth up from a spell, he should be hard fit now.

15 Rules Don’t Apply (Bet Now: $21.00) has the Waller polish and makes her Queensland debut so keen to see how she goes in what does look a winnable race. I thought she was given a peach by J Mac last time out on the Kenso track and was there to win but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Reggiewood. Back to this level, she appeals big time.

6 Smart Meteor (Bet Now: $8.00) should love getting his toe in for Chris Munce. He was three weeks between runs and coming back to the mile from 2000m when racing at the Sunny Coast last time and I thought he finished his race off very well in defeat when second to dominant winner Profit. Fitter and on wet ground, he’ll take beating here.

1 Profit (Bet Now: $3.10) has well and truly found a new lease on life in recent times, winning two on the bounce. 12/10 steer from Wilson-Taylor saw him bolt up two back at the Sunny Coast before a strong win at this track/distance two weeks ago. Has to carry the weight, but he’s found form and is holding it.

7 Ocean Treaty (Bet Now: $13.00) is a talented mare for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that was a strong winner over this trip three weeks back at Doomben. She was there to be run down by Stardome but she found plenty and was strong to the line and through it in winning. That horse was beaten a week later, so a little question mark on the form, but she’s got upside/progression.

8 Teranga (Bet Now: $4.20) has the O’Dea/Hoysted polish and you can’t ignore anything they are saddling up at the moment. Resumed on testing ground at the Gold Coast where she sat back for the speed but came with a well timed run under Hellyer to win narrowly but impressively. Harder here, clearly, but you just have to respect anything this camp has.

2 Merimee (Bet Now: $3.70) is a few weeks between runs for Chris Waller since unleashing a powerful finale from off a good speed to win impressively at this track/distance. Can be hit and miss but she showed there what she is capable of and this does appear to be a similar race.

6 General Wolffe (Bet Now: $7.00) is a three year old but has already had 21 starts so he’s been a busy boy. Far from disgraced behind Safework two back. He then backed up a week later against his own age, was ridden cold, and found the line quite well when second to Enterprise Pomme. 1350m looks ideal, provided he is ridden conservatively again.

7 Contemptuous (Bet Now: $4.50) is a beauty for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that resumes after a fab Spring prep, which saw the five year old win 3/3 and establish himself as a proper Saturday class horse, potentially on the verge of blacktype. Led and throttled down in a Doomben trial last Thursday, but his race day record speaks for itself.

5 Pizonie (Bet Now: $14.00) doesn’t want the track too wet so the forecast for rain is interesting. He didn’t win in a Winter/Spring prep, but was far from disgraced behind some pretty talented types. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and looks to have trialled up quite well leading in.

3 Le Palmier (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Tony Gollan trained sprinter that resumes. He can be a bit hit and miss but his best is certainly good enough to be around the mark. His best saw him beat up Stakes class animal Simply Fly but next start he failed to beat a runner home behind Kylease. Looked to move well on speed in a trial here last Thursday. Just not sure if the track has genuine give.

12 Torun (Bet Now: $15400) looks like he is enjoying life with the Lipp/Hahn camp. Admittedly just one trial and one run of evidence, but both times he has caught the eye. The first up run came over 1110m here and I really liked the way he warmed to the task late behind Befana. Good second up record and up to 1200m is a big tick.

9 Maybe The Best (Bet Now: $2.90) is a former Team Freedman mare that had her first run for David Vandyke at the Sunny Coast where she was a notable betting drifter despite strong Victorian form lines. It mattered not to her because once she got clear air, she made a mess of them and was impressive. Hard to beat.

7 Boomnova (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing well for Chris Munce. She just can’t quite crack it for a win. Game second to Wisdom Of Water in the Magic Millions QTIS before racing over 1110m here when near the speed and she was there to win but had no answers for Befana. Finding it hard to win, but is racing in good form.

John Smerdon looks like he will have some fun with 11 Get The Idea (Bet Now: $15.00). First run for the stable came over 1200m here two weeks ago and I thought his finale was excellent in restricted room when fourth to Montenegro Man. Good second up record, extra 150m, he’ll take beating.

13 Glitter Strip (Bet Now: $51.00) is bursting to win one for Tony Gollan but keeps finding one or two better. She was there to win at Doomben last time with Palladas being unlucky. She was there to beat Safework but that horse packed too many punches and was too good. She’ll run well again.

13 Fasano (Bet Now: $51.00) should love the rise to 1350m. Resumed with a surprising win over 1110m here. Then finished down the track at the Sunny Coast behind Mass Destruction before racing over 1200m here where he was good late nearer the inside, which wasn’t the place to be. He’ll appreciate more ground and be strong late.

NEXT BEST: Race Seven Number 7 Contemptuous

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 11 Get The Idea
