A seven race card has been set down for Pinjarra Scarpside on Thursday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (16:45) Tabtouch Watch Sky Racing Mdn 1000m
Keen to be with 1 Prince Epaulette (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) in the opener. David Harrison trained three year old that resumes after a two run Autumn prep to start his career, where he ran behind Bustling each time, who was the star juvenile last season in WA, so that is A1 form, and his trial work to get ready for the return has been sharp.
4 Promising (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key threat. She resumed at this track/distance where she was held on the line but I will say she didn’t really get the rub of the green and should have finished closer when fifth. Had trialled super prior to that so I think she gets another look.
5 Rosay Allday (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of I’m All The Talk that resumes for Hayden Ballantyne. She debuted at Northam on Sep 5 when getting the suck run in behind but couldn’t quite finish the race off when down the track. Trialled well enough to my eye…not sure she wins but can run first four.
Race 2. (17:25) State Wide Turf Services Mdn 1400m
8 Exquisite Taste (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am leaning in what appears to be a two horse race. He is a son of So You Think that debuts for Michael Grantham, with his latest trial coming at Lark Hill on Dec 2 when midfield but I thought moved well enough in defeat. Blinkers on signals intent and this isn’t a deep contest.
4 Barra Mundy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key and I dare say only threat. He ran over 1300m here last time out when getting the suck run in behind and tried hard but just lacked the finale to go with them late in the piece when fourth. Moderate level of maiden here, he commands respect from the good draw.
3 Holdout (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver for Neville Parnham. He resumed at Northam when wide throughout and couldn’t really get involved when down the track. That was on Nov 7 and the tick over trial was good, so watch the market I say.
Race 3. (18:05) Own The Dream Mdn 1200m
8 Bird On A Wire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had numerous chances to break the maiden tag but she does appear quite well placed here. She resumes for Bec Nairn, having not raced since July 11 at Bunbury when running second for the third race on the bounce, beaten in a race which has been a good form reference. Trialled well for the return, kind map and should be strong late.
11 Point Of Conflict (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect. She did more than enough here two back after getting a fair way out of her ground. She then went to Albany when hailed as the winner after being ridden with intent but just found one better. Tricky draw, but does look a coming maiden winner.
1 My Be Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Jayce Buckley trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Aug 22 over this track/distance when struggling on heavy ground and failed to fire a shot when down the track. Looked to trial well enough at Belmont in readiness for the return…one for exotics.
Race 4. (18:40) Boxing Day Dash (Bm84+) 1300m
Am I missing something with 3 Laced Up Heels (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) and why she isn’t favourite, or least challenging for that tag? I thought her run in the Winterbottom was incredible. Got back to near last in the run and in a race dominated on speed, she was never a winning threat but loved the way she closed off and did clock fast late splits. Extra 100m no issue, back miles in grade/depth, kind map…gee she only runs well I say.
2 The Boss Lady (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Michael Lane trained mare that is in career best form at present. She has won her past two, letting down with purpose to win the Jungle Dawn two back before a strong win over 1400m at Ascot again in a strong benchmark race. Hard to beat against these.
4 Sisu Warrior (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Team Williams. He ran fifth to The Boss Lady in the race mentioned above. He got off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Not sure he wins but a must for exotics.
Race 5. (19:15) Gwn7 Hcp (C1) 1800m
4 What’s The Point (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the winner if the rise to 1800m is fine. He ran over 1400m at Ascot last time out and his run was just…weird. He led, had control and looked full of running but then put in an off stride and it looked as though he was gone, but he picked up in the straight and surged, only nabbed late by Earthstorm. If the trip is fine, he’s the one to beat.
7 My Idol (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing like 1800m suits and has good upside/progression. He won his maiden last time out over the mile at Albany last start, getting better as the race went on and knuckled down late to win and win well. Has to be respected as one of the leading chances.
8 Sandfire Rose (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip after racing over the mile here last time out where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up some headway in a decent effort. Dangerous if she’s within range.
Race 6. (19:54) Tyrepower Pinjarra Hcp (C3) 1000m
1 Cessation (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can resume a winner for Tiarnna Noske. He is first up, having not raced since Aug 17 at Belmont when finding a bog track and was stuck wide no cover on speed in a total forgive when fourth to Silver Eye. Resumes without a trial but is proven at the track/distance, can sit on speed and be strong late.
3 Just Saint James (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key threat. He ran over this track/distance last start where he got back to near last in the run but was trucking. Just a matter of getting clear air and time to wind up…unfortunately it didn’t eventuate so forgive and forget. If the breaks go his way, he can win.
5 Extreme Love (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an Adam Durrant trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Aug 28 at Belmont when racing over 1300m where she got back, wide with cover, and worked home well enough without threatening behind Decoration. She can sprint well fresh and her trial work has been quite good.
Race 7. (20:30) Mandurah Cup 28 Dec Hcp (C5) 1600m
5 Striking Fella (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will do me each way in the get out. He is third up for Team Pearce, having last raced just under two weeks ago over 1500m at Geraldton when near the speed and did try hard but just couldn’t quite get there. The first up run here was a beauty and I think with a more patient steer, he’ll be far more effective.
3 Long Genes (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate getting back to the mile after racing over 1800m at Ascot. He got into a decent spot in transit and was there to threaten but I just don’t think he run the trip out. Better suited at this trip and the depth here, as a whole, isn’t deep.
6 Swim Through (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He ran over 1400m at Ascot where he got back to near last in the run and while he was well back, never a factor, he did make up ground and was quite good in defeat I thought. Back to this level, he rates highly.
