26/12/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Summer Cup day

Boxing Day racing in Sydney heads to Randwick for Summer Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres from the 900m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.

Tricky juvenile race to start the meeting. I’m with 18 Mills (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS), a first starter for Team Hawkes. On paper, it’ll say she has had one trial, which came at Rosehill last Tuesday, but eight days prior, she had a jumpout at Werribee and looked to move well there too, so she’s had a good grounding for this.

3 Hard To Say (Bet Now: $4.40 TOP ODDS) looks like he will be fine at 1100m. Ran two weeks back in the Phelan Ready and closed off his race strongly I thought when a close up second to a sharp short course juvenile, Palazzo Spirit. This horse sort of reminds me of Baby Wong from last year. Talented, runs well…just not sure he’s good enough to win, but should be around the mark.

9 Shalailed (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) has a tricky draw to overcome but I think he has talent. Debuted at Warwick Farm when well backed. Seemed to have his chance but was far from disgraced in defeat in what is a good form reference with Fireburn coming out of it to win last Saturday. Hard to beat if he gets luck.

5 Casino Lord (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) is a handy animal for Cody Morgan that should eat up 1100m here with the run under the belt. Ran in the Highway two weeks ago here and worked home very strongly from near last in the run when third to the in form London Gal. Fitter, up in trip, he’ll take beating here.

Interesting that 3 Anethole (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) was scratched from a much easier race at Tamworth on Monday to be kept on ice for this. He has always promised to win a Highway but he keeps finding one or two better, which was the case fresh at Tamworth when a fast finishing second over 1000m. Should appreciate a fast run 1100m and is hard to beat.

7 Lady River (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) can bounce back. Impressive winner two back at Scone before going to Warwick Farm where she was just too bad to be true. Tick over trial indicates she is back in good order and she does have strong Highway form from last prep, plus has early speed.

4 Kirwan’s Lane (Bet Now: $3.20 TOP ODDS) should appreciate the drop back in grade. Thrown in the deep end in the Villiers and I was quite amazed at how short he was, having a $9 SP and failing to fire behind Brutality. This looks more his level and he was over a month between runs into the Villiers, so he can bounce back.

5 Wheelhouse (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has been kept on ice for Chris Waller, having not raced since Gong Day at Kembla when wide and doing work, just feeling the pinch late behind Steely. Dry ground, hard fit, he’s getting close to D-Day, but to help his cause, he finds a winnable race.

A drop of rain won’t hurt 3 Our Candidate (Bet Now: $31.00 TOP ODDS), who resumes for Kris Lees. His last run came in January over this track/distance when down the track behind Soldier Of Love. His recent trial was a good piece of work and with a drop of rain, I think he comes right into play here.

7 Spaltet (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS) looks a progressive animal for Annabel Neasham. Can make a case to say he wins three weeks back at Rosehill. Didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight and seemed to have something in the locker when a close up third to Peekays Legacy. Bigger track, he can win.

3 Rebel Rama (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) can bounce back here. Like most, was quite keen on her last start in a Midway at Rosehill but even allowing for the track pattern, I thought she was quite plain given the market expectation. But she was racing very well prior to that, so giving her another chance.

8 Microna (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) is racing very well at the moment. 12/10 steer from Collett last time out under the lights at Canterbury. Looked the winner on the turn but had to settle for a second to Made By Khan, a progressive animal. Was 2130m back to 1900m so I think back up in trip will be a positive and is a first four contender.

8 Dhakuri (Bet Now: $6.50) is a James Cummings trained gelding that had let punters down badly on a couple of occasions but seemingly all is forgiven after a spank job of his rivals last time out on the Kenso track, and what was impressive was that he attacked the line rather than just float. He can go on with it now.

7 Rousseau (Bet Now: $6.00) is three weeks between runs for Chris Waller since racing at Rosehill where he was given a 12/10 by J Mac and did everything bar get him home, but had to settle for second to Peekays Legacy. Form since out of that race looks a tad suspect, but he’s in the right camp to bounce back.

6 Outlandos (Bet Now: $10.00) lacks the class of some of these, but is only third up with upside to come. Caught the eye against the pattern fresh at Rosehill behind Born A King. Then went to the Kenso track and warmed to the task late in a good effort behind Dhakuri. He’ll eat up 1800m on the big track and is a must for multiples.

8 Lady Of Luxury (Bet Now: $4.60) is racing so well this time in for Bjorn Baker. Race shape was against her here last time out but you had to like the way she finished her race off behind impressive winner Bacchanalia. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating against this lot.

1 Selburose (Bet Now: $4.50) deserves another chance. I was quite keen on her chances at Kembla a few weeks back but after she bombed the start, that sealed her fate so I want to be very forgiving of the effort. If she jumps clean, she can lead them up and give them something to chase.

3 I Say Hello (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Kris Lees trained mare that resumes. Hasn’t raced since September 29 when down the track on the Kenso track behind Much Much Better. She can be hit and miss, but her best is good enough and two trials leading in suggest she can sprint well fresh.

2 So You Win (Bet Now: $11.00) is racing in super form at the moment for Chris Waller. Lovely ride by Jimmy Orman saw him win at Doomben last time, getting the suck run behind the speed, before getting clear air and his class came to the fore late in getting the job done. He can keep winning.

3 Stockman (Bet Now: $3.80) would be a good thing if this track was bottomless but the forecast suggests he won’t get much juice in the track. Track dried right out in time for the Villiers, which worked against him, but he was very good from near last behind Brutality. Gets to 2000m, hard to beat.

4 Attorney (Bet Now: $14.00) is sneaky flying I think for Matty Smith. Trialled up alright and I thought he closed off well late without threatening in the Villiers behind Brutality. Good second up record and up to 2000m is a big tick, plus he does have a class edge when he’s right.

11 Nictock (Bet Now: $16.00) is bursting to win a race in town and I think he gets a great chance here. Looked the winner three weeks ago in a Rosehill Midway but was nabbed on the peg by Arctic Thunder. He just struggles at the end of his races but I do think back to 1200m is a big, big tick.

4 Ranges (Bet Now: $10.00) can bounce back here. Impressive winner fresh at Kembla on Gong Day before going to Rosehill where he got back in the run and worked home well without threatening behind El Buena. He’s come back in good order I feel and if the tempo is genuine, he can finish over the top.

6 Papal Warrior (Bet Now: $11.00) is a son of Fastnet Rock for Chris Waller that resumes. He hasn’t raced since August 28 when producing an end of prep run at Kembla behind Kordia, but his Winter prep was a fruitful one with a couple of wins. Just one soft trial to get ready, but I think he can run well in a winnable race.

3 Southern Lights (Bet Now: $16.00) is a big watch here from both the yard and market perspective. Irish stayer that makes his Australian debut for Annabel Neasham and if you look at his form, it’s A1 form. Has form around a star in Adayar, plus the likes of Dawn Patrol and True Self, closed off strongly in a recent trial…all points to him running well here.

6 Blesk (Bet Now: $4.00) is flying for John O’Shea and looks to be ready to win again. Race shape beat him two back behind Zoushack before bumping into what I think is a Stakes class mare in Brookspire here two weeks ago. No horse of that quality here, he gets his chance to win again.

4 I Am Vinnie (Bet Now: $14.00) is unbeaten at Randwick and it’s the sort of race he could easily bounce back to positive form. On pace dominated affair last time out at Flemington so just forgive and forget he went around. His overall form reads very well for this 78, so watch the market.

2 Waihaha Falls (Bet Now: $4.00) looks a progressive four year old for John O’Shea. Lovely ride from Bowman saw him win at Rosehill, getting the suck run behind the speed before edging into clear air and finished best in a driving go. He’s got improvement to come and is hard to beat here.

11 Remus (Bet Now: $20.00) looks to have an okay engine under the hood for Jarrod Austin. He was second up when racing in a Midway here two weeks ago and was good late from off the speed when third to impressive winner Pecuniary Interest. He’s got upside to come and I think is in with a shout here.

7 Real Peace (Bet Now: $61.00) is a sneaky chance here I feel. Had specking at massive odds when resuming here two weeks back and I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Brookspire in what I think will turn out to be a strong form reference. Fitter and up in trip, she appeals.
