26/12/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Boxing Day races

Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville this Sunday, headlined by the Southern Speed Series Final (2040m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres from the 2000m-1800m; Out eight metres from the 1800m-1200m; Out eleven metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out eight metres from the Winning Post.

5 Aitch Two Oh (Bet Now: $5.00) on top in the opener. Tea Jolly trained Headwater filly that has had just one jumpout, which came here. Was wide no cover for the trip but looked to move quite well and won nicely. I think she’ll be strong late, and she’ll need to be given the likely hot early tempo.

1 Celtic Vader (Bet Now: $3.00) will set that hot early tempo. Looks a real jump/run type, as seen when winning here two weeks ago at this track/distance, with the 3kg claim helping. Has that once again but I think there is more depth to this line up, so watch the market with her.

2 Monseagle (Bet Now: $5.00) has the benefit of two runs under the belt, which should hold him in good stead. He ran in the Celtic Vader race when run off his legs early but picked up and was good late behind the Jolly juvenile. If he can muster some early speed, he’ll go close here.

5 Sunfall (Bet Now: $1.85) has come back in super order for the Price/Kent camp. He hasn’t been given much hope either by race shape and/or negative rides but each time he has found the line quite well. Love him up to the mile and in a race like this, he’s the best on the card IMO.

2 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now: $3.80) is bursting to win one. Should have won at this track/distance two weeks ago but pilot error from Ben Price cost the horse. Stayed in for luck instead of peeling out and the straight run was pretty much a barrier trial. He’s flying the horse, deserves a win and gets his chance here.

1 Rising Renown (Bet Now: $26.00) is a former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut for Travis Doudle. We have seen this stable have good success with these Kiwi gallopers eg Not Usual Talent, Sacred Armour. Interesting to see how this guy goes given he’s a 2000m+ horse and his two jumpouts have been just fair. Watch the market.

5 Gosden (Bet Now: $2.05) for me. The wide gate is a concern, but he’s clearly the pick of the raced brigade and the first starters, as a whole, look a bit thin. Showed good promise as a juvenile, including a placing in a Stakes race on the Parks track. If he gets luck from the draw, he wins.

8 Marvelous Night (Bet Now: $10.00) looks to have talent. Team Jolly son of Fiorente that is on debut off the back of a couple of jumpouts this prep, which followed a prep in the Winter. His two jumpouts leading into this have been sound for a horse bred to get further, and stable can produce them to win at start one.

13 Starlite Rebel (Bet Now: $10.00) is bursting to win a maiden. Whether it comes at a metro meet at Morphettville, not sure, but she does have talent. Ran behind Rushaway Lad here last time out and was good late without threatening. Not sure she wins, but a must for multiples.

I’ll take a chance with 4 Sky Call (Bet Now: $9.00). Formerly with Mitch Beer before a three run stint with Pat Carey where she didn’t fire a shot. Now finds herself with Will Clarken and we know the record the stable has with tried horses. Her best will see her win so watch the market and see what it does.

2 Chosen Blonde (Bet Now: $2.05) should love racing at this level. First couple of runs for the prep on the Parks track were very good. Then went to 1100m at Flemington when near the speed and stuck on really well when a close up fifth. The query has to be the end of 1100m, even at this level, so while she’s hard to beat, she’s too short in betting IMO.

5 Blah Blah Blah (Bet Now: $9.50) is a son of Outreach for Ryan Balfour that resumes. Hasn’t raced since August 14 on the Parks track where he was very good from near last in the run, spotting those in front way too much head start. Has jumped out well leading in and career wise, has got more upside than most.

4 Hello Ladies (Bet Now: $3.50) has the talent under the hood to win a race like this, but his racing pattern can let him down and work against him. That was the case here two weeks ago when back in the run and running on okay without really threatening behind impressive winner Great Leveller. If he’s within range, he can take this out.

8 Angel Like (Bet Now: $3.00) looks like she’s enjoying life under Will Clarken. Formerly with Kacy Fogden, first run for the new camp came here a fortnight back in the race mentioned above and I thought she worked to the line pretty well when second. You’d assume there is natural improvement to come and is hard to beat.

5 Sparkup (Bet Now: $6.00) resumes for Team Jolly and I think can be dangerous here. He is better suited over a bit further but is a capable horse and did show promise when last in work, including a solid effort at Murray Bridge behind Outlaws Revenge, which clearly reads well for this. Market will be the guide as to whether he’s forward enough.

9 Jive Baby (Bet Now: $13.00) should love the rise to the mile. Last couple of runs have come over 1300m at Balaklava, winning two back. Last time out, she just got a mile out of her ground and was never really a factor when fourth. The rise to the mile suits and hopefully can sit closer in the run.

3 Kalamon (Bet Now: $9.50) has found winning form again and he can go on with it now. He found a thin race at Balaklava over the mile last time and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and he was much too good. Has run well in town before and now being a last start winner, he commands respect.

6 Morty (Bet Now: $5.50) is on the quick back up for Shayne Cahill after racing last Saturday at Gawler. He was a few weeks between runs and worked to the line well, with his condition just giving way late. He’ll be better for the run and back up to the mile, he does find a really winnable race.

4 Kayseri (Bet Now: $4.60) has found winning form again and I think he can go on with it. Got the jockey upgrade two weeks ago when racing here and once he got the split, he surged, finished best and was too good. He’s got improvement to come I feel and should take beating here.

1 Great Leveller (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Jon O’Connor trained gelding that comes here off the back of a sharp win a fortnight back here. Sat off what was a fast speed before edging into clear air and he really put the race to bed in a few strides, winning impressively. He can win again in what is a winnable race overall.

6 Damascus Moment (Bet Now: $7.50) commands respect here. This mare needed a confidence boost and she got it in spades last time out at Penola in what was a moderate 62. Made a mess of them from the front and was impressive. With that under the belt, I think she can go on with it.

1 Call Me Shamus (Bet Now: $5.50) has upside to come and I think he can win again. Lovely patient steer from Crowther saw this gelding win at this track/distance two weeks ago, surging hard late and nabbing Wild Imagination on the peg. He’s got improvement to come and rates highly here.

3 Fighter (Bet Now: $4.50) is racing very well for Team McEvoy and is on the quick day back up after winning last Saturday at Gawler. He looked gone 600m out but as the race got deeper, he got better and drew clear. More depth here, but hard to knock the way he’s going.

9 Victory Bandit (Bet Now: $17.00) should be suited back up in trip. Team Jaensch trained mare that ran over 1950m a few weeks back on the Parks track and she ran her usual honest race when fourth to dominant winner Darlamax. Has run well here previously so she’s in with a shout.

4 Full Probe (Bet Now: $3.80) is a talented animal for the Jolly camp that is three weeks between runs since a sharp all the way winner where he got control in front and really, the race was over after 200m. More depth here and more pressure is on the cards, but he has a good engine under the hood.

6 Heyington Station (Bet Now: $3.50) deserves another chance. Market loved him when he resumed three weeks ago on the Parks track but he got run off his legs, a mile out of his ground and was never really a winning factor but was good late when fourth to Heka Express. Up to 1200m, hopefully can sit closer in the run. If so, hard to beat.

1 Proper Rogue (Bet Now: $13.00) is suited at this level. They tried him at 1200m at Flemington two weeks back down the straight but he failed to fire a shot behind impressive winner Pioneer River. If he runs up to his effort behind Marabi at Ballarat he’d just about win this. Just very inconsistent.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 5 Gosden

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 9 Jive Baby
