Early markets, I’m quite surprised that 3 Semeco (Bet Now:Β $2.70) isn’t favourite and I expect that come race time, he and the Hayes/Dabernig juvenile will switch their place in the market. Semeco beat two rivals in a recent Balaklava trial but gee he looked a nice horse. Given a squeeze and responded instantly, then when Vorster throttled him down late, he moved sweetly. I think he has a bit on these and $3+ when markets opened, I feel, was luxurious.

Danger

1 Elteecee (Bet Now:Β $2.15) is that Hayes/Dabernig horse I am talking about and I am surprised he has opened favourite. He is in a Victorian stable and they have been dominant this season in early 2YO races in SA. This bloke has had a couple of jumpouts and has looked to go well, but nowhere near as sharp as Semeco. He runs well…but doubt he beats Semeco.

Long Shot

4 Bleriot (Bet Now:Β $4.40) has the hard race fitness/experience which should carry her a long way. Will Clarken trained filly that is two weeks between runs since racing here where she loomed to win the race, but as soon as she dashed, Yulong Turbo got off heels and dashed right away. That horse looks smart, so keen to see how that form holds up here.

Race 2. (13:31) Winning Edge Presentations Mdn 1050m

2 Impossible Action (Bet Now:Β $2.60) is an All Too Hard three year old for the Jolly camp that resumes. Showed a bit of promise in two runs during the Spring, placing on debut before finishing behind a handy type in Quietly Discreet before being spelled. Just given a quiet time in a recent Balaklava trial but does look the pick of the raced brigade.

Danger

4 Sellix (Bet Now:Β $3.60) is an honest mare that races well…just doesn’t win. Had her on top when she raced here last Friday due to the jockey upgrade, thinking that was the small thing she needed to greet the judge first…nope. She just didn’t finish it off, yet again. She’s a must for multiples, will run well…just can’t back her to win.

Long Shot

8 Spinola Bay (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is an interesting runner. Daughter of Cluster for Gordon Richards that is on debut. She’s had two jumpouts and a trial in between to get ready for start one. The trial was just fair, but the recent jumpout, which came here last Tuesday, was quite encouraging I thought, so watch the market and see what it does.

1 Fighter (Bet Now:Β $1.50) does look to pick himself here and is one of the better bets on the card. Team McEvoy trained son of Lord Kanaloa that debuted over 1200m at Balaklava. Caught three wide with cover and was a bit one paced when Vorster asked him to go, but picked up and surged to just miss out on the win. As a whole, this isn’t a strong maiden, and with upside to come, hard seeing him getting beat.

Danger

8 Amber Haze (Bet Now:Β $4.80) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but is an honest filly for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable and should be around the mark. That was the case when she ran at Balaklava last time, hunting up to hold a forward spot and battling away well when third to Possum Born, wuth Fighter in second. Will run her usual honest race…not sure she has the killer blow to win.

Long Shot

9 Nana Dulce (Bet Now:Β $13.00) back to 1200m I do like. Sat near the speed over 1400m at Murray Bridge last time out and gave a solid enough kick when asked for the effort. Just lacked the class to finish it off when fourth to Wild Imagination. Back to 1200m is a positive and if she can land near the speed without spending too many petrol tickets, can finish top four.

Race 4. (14:41) Tab Hcp (c2) 1200m

Buttering up with the Shayne Cahill trained filly 7 Alotafun (Bet Now:Β $13.00). Impressive debut winner at Gawler, which ensured she was kept very safe in betting when racing here two weeks ago. I thought it was a poor ride from Vorster. Just didn’t hunt up and take the gap that was there. In saying that, the filly did a bit wrong herself but think with a clear path she’s clearly in the finish. Hard to beat here.

Danger

3 Struck By (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is a Travis Doudle trained three year old that jumps straight to a Class 2 from maiden company but his maiden win last time at Balaklava was impressive. They slapped the Blinkers on him and despite being one of the first off the bit, he was strong to the line and sharp in winning. Can measure up here for sure.

Long Shot

1 Winning Weather (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is an honest filly for the Macdonald/Gluyas team and I think is a leading chance here. Comes through the Li’l Piper race from a fortnight back here. Was on speed throughout outside the leader and eventual winner. They controlled the race and Winning Weather had her chance to win I thought. She’ll be around the mark once again.

Race 5. (15:21) Furphy (rs0mw) 1200m

Back Me

The best version of 3 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now:Β $2.20) would see him spank this field. But he was a real enigma when last in work, going down as favourite in five of his last six runs, so patience is on the thin side with him, but he’s now with Michael Hickmott after formerly being with the Freedman camp and the new stable does have a good record with these tried horses.

Danger

4 Damascus Moment (Bet Now:Β $5.50) deserves another chance. Peter Hardacre trained that led and just felt the pinch fresh at the Bool. Then raced here behind Call Me Curtis where she just got a bit too far back in the run but closed off okay for a mare that should be suited up in trip and is third up, so should just about be at peak fitness.

Long Shot

1 Rhythmatic (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is racing in career best form at the moment. Has won his past two. Latest of those wins came just under two weeks ago at Bordertown when sitting just off the speed and chasing strongly with the big weight to get up and win. Proven weight carrier and I think has to be respected.

Race 6. (16:01) Chapel Hill Hcp (bm72) 1200m

I’ll give 6 Viduka (Bet Now:Β $5.00) another chance. Was in his corner last time out at this track/distance. Given a peach steer by Tourneur and looked all over a winner. Grabbed right on the peg by an in form Designer Chef. Seems more effective over the short course trips so remaining at 1200m is interesting he’s bursting to win a race.

Danger

4 Call Me Curtis… (Bet Now:Β $12.00) what a great training effort from Craig Curtis to get this guy to win first up here two weeks ago. Curtis was back training after a suspension and this has been pretty much his best horse he has trained. He was well specked at odds and duly saluted, finishing best to wear them down. If he naturally improves off that, has to be hard to beat once again.

Long Shot

2 Masterati (Bet Now:Β $12.00) will put himself on speed and give a sight. Grant Young has got his stable going really well at the moment, and this guy is in form. Led at a good clip at Bordertown last time and gave a solid enough kick under Sophie Logan. Just got the staggers late and was grabbed near the peg by Rhythmatic. Any hint of bias towards those near the front and he’ll take some beating.

Race 7. (16:41) Dominant (rs1ly) 1600m

Third up from a break, think 3 Here Comes Lenni (Bet Now:Β $2.30) is just about ready to win. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago on what was a testing by the time the last race was run, his race. He’s a horse who just isn’t as effective when getting his toe in compared to on top of the ground. He battled away well without threatening behind Territory Titan. The weather forecast looks good, so should get a firm deck and I think he gets his chance.

Danger

1 Naseeb (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is a very interesting runner. Sue Murphy trained six year old that somewhat came of age when last in work, establishing himself as a Saturday class horse. In three previous fresh runs, he has resumed at 1100m twice and 1200m, so the fact he resumes at the mile tells me he’s ready to go. Interesting to see if the market agrees with that sentiment.

Long Shot

6 Mr Epic (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is on the seven day back up for Grant Young after racing last Saturday at Gawler where he led at a pretty good clip and tried hard. Did a really good job to hold on like he did, finishing second to stablemate Jack’s A Cracker. Has raced well on the back up before, should land near the front and give a sight.

Race 8. (17:21) Accolade Wines (bm60) 1050m

Think 11 Baraconi (Bet Now:Β $3.60) can beat the older horses here. Hard fit and racing well for the Mick Huxtable camp. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when near the speed and she looked the winner when she hit the front, only to be bloused near the peg by Mayan. This isn’t a strong 60, she’s hard fit and holding her form. She’ll do me.

Danger

6 Kirinia (Bet Now:Β $3.60) takes on the older horses once again and rises to a 72 from a 58, but she’s hard fit and racing well. Last start win came three weeks back over 1050m here when sitting back off a very fast speed and had last look to win and win well under Caitlin Jones. Harder here, but she’s a filly in form.

Long Shot

10 Unbounded (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a daughter of Sebring for Phillip Stokes that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since September 12 at this track/distance when back off the speed and battling away okay despite having every chance behind the then in form Gougers. Liked the recent Balaklava trial and she’s a mare that on paper doesn’t have a great fresh record, but two of those were on the Pakenham Synthetic while the other was on a wet track, so think just watch the market.

Race 9. (18:01) Terry Howe Printing (bm75) 2008m

Tricky race this with a host of chances. Think 1 Von Costa Glass (Bet Now:Β $9.50) has the right form and will need a good ride from a tricky gate but leaning his way. Has the solid blacktype form in two of his past three, and last start was a closing second to a horse who would have been odds on here, Ritratto. With the claim, feel he’s hard to beat.

Danger

8 Serious Spender (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is racing well for the Macdonald/Gluyas team and is a leading contender. Lovely ride from Stubby saw her win here two weeks ago in a heat over 1800m, wearing down a gallant Skillful Steps. Looks suited up to 2000m and now she has a win on the board, could well go on with it.

Long Shot

5 Flow Meter (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is an old warrior for John Hickmott. On a relative quick back up with his third run in two weeks. Ran just under two weeks ago in the Bordertown Cup in what was a real sit/sprint and I thought he battled away well, making up ground late when third to surprise winner Stealthy Lucas. He should always be considered a knockout chance in these kind of races.
