25/5/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

Ten races has been set down for Sandown Hillside this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

2 Flattered (Bet Now: $5.50) has done little wrong in a five start career and for mine, rates as one of the hardest to beat. This filly comes through the David Coles at Morphettville where she ran a strong second to a potential jet, Growing Empire. She was wide with cover before angling wider into clear air and was good late but no match for the colt. Back to 1000m, back to her own age/sex, she’s the one for me.

1 Jenni’s Meadow (Bet Now: $12.00) is a daughter of Brutal for Team Hayes that resumes. This girl is first up after a two run prep in the Summer, debuting with a win at The Valley before being down the track in the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast. Jumped out well leading in and has the runs on the board to say she’s hard to beat.

7 Lava Delta (Bet Now: $12.00) is a well bred filly for Clinton McDonald who is on debut and the stable is flying with their juveniles. This girl is closely related to stablemate Shakattak so she’s bred to be handy and I thought her recent jumpout win at Cranbourne was very good. Tricky draw, but should press forward and account herself well.

8 Tacumwah (Bet Now: $5.50) has been strong in two runs back from a spell for Moody/Coleman. Did more than enough fresh in the Mornington Guineas before stepping up to 1800m here where she looked like she would be a moral beat but she managed to get clear and savaged the line to win. Nice filly on the up, strong late and has a touch of quality.

7 Hydrogen Power (Bet Now: $6.00) looks to have come back in really good order and appeals as one of the leading chances. He ran over this trip at Caulfield two weeks ago where he got a sweet steer by Yendall and tried his guts out but just didn’t have the finale to go with Sure late in the piece. Third up, hard fit now and this isn’t an overly deep race.

5 Lady In Pink (Bet Now: $4.60) is a threat for sure. Down the track in the Bendigo Guineas before going to Caulfield, four weeks between runs, and found the line well enough but was never beating Miss Aria. Better for that run under the belt, can settle closer and she does have talent.

Hard to get away from 1 Miss Aria (Bet Now: $4.50). She’s flying for Danny O’Brien. Just missed out on the Stakes win two back in the Nitschke at Morphettville Parks before going to Caulfield two weeks ago where she gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose and was arrogant the way she put them away. Only has to run up to that effort and I think she’s the winner.

2 Elphinstone (Bet Now: $7.50) has been up a little while for Team McEvoy but she is holding her form really well. Strong winner of the VOBIS Guineas two back before going to Caulfield again when just off the speed and she was there to win but just lacked the quality to go with them late when third to Sure. If she holds her form, she’ll be around the mark again.

11 Nodachi (Bet Now: $18.00) is one for exotics. She ran behind Miss Aria two weeks back at Caulfield. She cut the corner and dashed clear but it was only for a brief period given she was in the quicksand and couldn’t finish it off. Not sure she is good enough to win but can run top four without totally surprising.

6 Mrs Chrissie (Bet Now: $4.40) will jump on the bunny and take running down. She did that at Caulfield a few weeks back, sitting on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and she was strong late in winning, in a good display. If she can bring her Caulfield form to Sandown, she is certainly dangerous.

1 Fasuto (Bet Now: $3.60) looks to have come back in really good order for Clinton McDonald. He resumed over this trip at Mornington a few weeks back, getting a sweet sit in transit before angling clear and he knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Good test here in a solid 78 but off the return, he has to be respected.

7 William Thomas (Bet Now: $7.50) is rising ten years of age for John Price but he’s a beauty and was a real eye catcher first up, which came here behind Scissor Step. He got back to near last and was held up at times but he savaged the line when clear in a strong return. Likely spots them a start again but should be quite strong at the end.

I want to give 2 Sing For Peace (Bet Now: $5.50) another chance. He was outstanding in his return at Mornington before going to Caulfield where he got badly held up behind tired runners but that said, when clear, he was very one paced and I am not sure handled the shifty track. Firmer deck, back miles in grade/depth, I think he can bounce back.

5 Pearl Rain (Bet Now: $14.00) is a stablemate of Sing For Peace that should appreciate a rise in distance. She resumed over 2000m at Cranbourne behind Berkshire Breeze, who would be $1.50 here against this lot. She tracked the speed and tried her guts out but had no answers. Tick over jumps trial was good, she has good upside and will be strong late.

15 Commando Drift (Bet Now: $7.00) is one of the key chances. This mare ran over 2500m on Anzac Day at Flemington where she got back in the run and made up some headway in a really good effort behind in form stayer Samuel Langhorne. Has run well at this track previously, down in the weights and stays.

11 Matriarch Rose (Bet Now: $3.80) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. She ran last Wednesday at this track/distance when just off the speed before cutting back to inferior ground and did look the winner but just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Hard To Cross. Tricky draw, but likely slides forward and down in the weights, she appeals.

7 Blue Moon (Bet Now: $16.00) looks to have returned in good order and fitter, up to the mile and back to Mares grade, she appeals. She resumed three weeks ago over 1700m at Caulfield where he got into a decent spot just off the speed and was good in defeat behind Cadmus given she did get held up at times and perhaps should have finished closer. Better set up here, she commands respect.

12 Pitchanun (Bet Now: $15.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. This mare resumed two weeks back at Caulfield over 1400m where she got back to near last in the run and made up some ground without being a threat behind impressive winner Fancify. Might need to wait til she gets to the 2040m at The Valley, but she’s honest and could pinch a first four spot.

1 Smokin Romans (Bet Now: $12.00) is the class runner of the field and class will carry him a long way. He resumed three weeks back over the mile at Caulfield where he got back off a very slow speed and given he is a 2000m+ horse, he just couldn’t get involved behind Dashing, but was far from disgraced. Not dismissing him given the class factor.

2 Let’srollthedice (Bet Now: $5.00) is several weeks between runs for Danny O’Brien since winning over this trip at Rosehill. He had to fight to get the win but Nash lifted him when it counted and finished best to score. Now he’s found winning form, he can certainly go on with in a winnable race.

10 Deepstrike (Bet Now: $10.00) saves his best for Sandown and with good upside, I am not penning him. He resumed behind Dashing at Caulfield where he wasn’t suited by the race shape so forgive and forget. If the track was wet, I’d nearly declare him, but on a dry deck, he’s more of a first four threat.

Going to take a chance with 5 Touristic (Bet Now: $23.00), who resumes for Team Snowden. He hasn’t raced since Jan 13 at Rosehill in a Listed race over 2000m. It was an end of prep run I thought, finishing down the track behind Naval College. Good fresh horse and does being an element of class.

8 Trosettee (Bet Now: $12.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Patrick Payne trained gelding that resumed over the mile at Caulfield a fortnight back where he attempted to lead throughout and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Furious. Better for the run under the belt and I think with cover, he’ll be hard to hold out.

6 Hennessy Lad (Bet Now: $14.00) has won at the trip previously and is racing like he will appreciate it. He ran over 1400m at Caulfield a few weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and made up some headway but was never really threatening behind a very progressive type, Chorlton Lane. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals as a chance.

6 Prince Of Helena (Bet Now: $35.00) is a beauty for Craig Weeding. He resumed two weeks ago at Caulfield where he got back to last in the run and spotted those in front a start but I loved the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Red Hot Nicc. He’ll love the rise to 1400m and if he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take holding out.

Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for 2 Lounge Bar Rubi (Bet Now: $19.00) . Team Kav trained gelding that resumed at Caulfield where he was off the speed and held up at times but did get clear late and found the line well enough in a solid return. Better set up here and with a more positive ride, he’s a big improver.

9 Frumos (Bet Now: $71.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Chris Waller, she now finds herself with Team Hayes. Her best is more than good enough to win this and with three trials/jumpouts under the belt, the latest a win at Pakenham, I reckon there is intent, so watch the market and see what it does.

1 King Magnus (Bet Now: $8.50) is flying for Griffiths/De Kock and will take beating. He ran behind Shock Em ova a fortnight back at Caulfield where I thought he was given a poor steer by Ryan Houston. He was wide throughout and for some reason, he elected to cut back inside, the quicksand, and the horse actually did a remarkable job to get as close as he did. Better luck in transit here, he’ll be around the mark.

6 Junipal (Bet Now: $9.50) is a quality animal for Ciaron Maher that looks to have returned in good order. He resumed at Warrnambool where I thought he was given a lovely ride by Allen and was there to win but first up, his condition just gave way late but the run was still full of merit in defeat behind the in form Green Fly. Fitter, he appeals.

13 Brigantine (Bet Now: $12.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Hawkesbury where he got back to near last in the run and made up no headway in a plain effort behind Fall For Cindy/Rise Of The Masses. His best is good enough and perhaps the switch to Melbourne can spark him.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 6 Prince Of Helena
