Race 1. (12:45) The Passchendaele Mdn Plate 1100m
Looks a race in two but happy to have 2 Call Me Gorgeous (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top. He resumes for David Pfieffer, having not raced since his debut here on Jan 17 over 1000m when near the speed and battled on really well in defeat behind Ballet D’Esprit. His two trials to prepare for his return has been impressive, he gets Nash, on speed…the one for me.
11 Rubikins (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a well bred filly who connections would love to get blacktype with her given she is by Rubick out of star mare Catkins. She resumed over 1100m at Hawkesbury where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning factor, I really liked her finale when fourth to Flightcrew. Think with a more positive ride, she’ll take beating.
5 Mailata (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Bryce Heys trained colt that debuted over this track/distance where he got back and was held up at times…just never really got involved behind Keep Your Cool so I am forgiving of the run and he had trialled well leading in. One for exotics.
Race 2. (13:20) The Home Front (Bm68) 1400m
10 Redbreast…(Bet Now:Β $SP.00) the trial pervs will be all over this girl and understandably so. She did a good job in her first prep, the second run being a spank job win at Hawkesbury where she ran one of the fastest ever times for 1400m at Hawkesbury. Her trial win at Randwick…yes, it was amazing, no denying that, and all things being equal, she wins this comfortably and heads to Brisbane for blacktype.
8 Bellenth (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a nice horse for Kim Waugh. He has done little wrong in two career outings, placing on debut at Hawkesbury before going to Wyong where he sat on speed and he made a mess of them, proving dominant late, beating a nice horse in his own right, Make A Call. 1400m is fine, lands on speed and hard fit, he appeals.
6 One Beat No Beat (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a knockout hope for Scott Singleton. This filly has raced over 1400m her past couple, the latest at Scone when back in the run and did make up good ground without threatening behind That’s Molly, beaten 1.5L. If she can settle closer or get a drag into the race, she’s got the finale to be dangerous.
Race 3. (13:55) Armistice (Bm78) 2400m
5 Awesome Wonder (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the one. John O’Shea trained mare that has been strong in two runs back from a spell. Did more than enough fresh over 1800m here behind City Of Lights before going to 2100m at Wyong where she kept chasing but found one better in Our Maryanne. Hard fit now, 2400m, firmer deck, she is the one for me.
4 Our Maryanne (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and can certainly hold it. She was ridden with a sit early before Atkins made a mid race move to find the front and proved quite strong to the line in winning and was impressive. Maps perfect to do no work and now off a win, I think she commands respect.
7 Olympic Theatre (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will have no issue with the trip and is a must for exotics. He ran over 2300m at Newcastle last time out where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a threat, he found the line with purpose and was good in defeat behind Go Millo. He can use the inside gate, settle closer and still be effective late.
Race 4. (14:30) Battle Of Amiens (Bm72) 1400m
6 Barellan Bandit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way. Formerly with John Ramsey, she is now with Ed O’Rourke and I have been quite taken by her trial work in readiness for her return, the latest trial win being an all the way win at Hawkesbury and made Williamsburg, a Stakes horse, look like a camel. 1400m fresh signals intent and will press forward. Happy to speck her each way.
1 Nails Murphy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained import that resumes. He had a two run prep down under in the Spring where he ran well each time, first up at Randwick behind Sequestered before going to Rosehill when fourth to I’mintowin. Trial work leading in has been more than encouraging and strikes a winnable race.
3 Kokoro (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch at times but his best is more than good enough. He is here off a freshen up for John O’Shea, his latest run coming at Rosehill on Feb 28 when leading, doing far too much work and tired late in the piece behind Cadetship. Freshened up, tick over trial was good and with a sit, he’ll be far more effective.
Race 5. (15:05) Kokoda Trail (Bm72) 1550m
4 Cabaca (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is back with Chris Waller after a stint in Tassie with Adam Trinder. First run for the second stint with Waller came in the Legacies race from a few weeks ago at Caulfield where she got back to near last in the run and did make up solid headway late in the piece. Better for the run, she can settle closer and still be effective late.
2 Defining (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been strong in two runs back from a spell for Annabel Neasham. Both starts have come over 1400m at Warwick Farm, winning fresh before a strong third to Desiah, beaten a half length in a blanket finish. Maps perfect to do no work and third up from a break, she should just about be at peak fitness.
3 Mountain Guest (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is going well for John Sargent and can certainly take this out. She ran last Wednesday at Canterbury and didn’t quite get the rub of the green so I am being forgiving of her effort behind Terrestar. If the breaks go her way this time around, she can certainly take this out without shocking.
Race 6. (15:40) The Australian Imperial Force (Bm72) 1000m
2 Jedibeel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could have lengths on these. Very keen to see how he resumes for Brad Widdup. He returns to racing as a gelding and the operation looks to have done the trick because his two trials to get ready have been incredible to my eye, enough to say he’s going to be a Saturday class horse, potentially Stakes class, and has something on these.
5 Martial Music (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the leading contenders to the favourite. He is here off a freshen up for Anthony Cummings, the latest run being on March 2 in a Midway when hard in the market but after leading, he tired and was a bit on the plain side late behind Mad Darcey. Freshened, tick over trial was good…keen to see how he goes.
6 Tulla Park (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Tash Burleigh trained gelding that resumes. This guy last raced on Gong Day at Kembla when struggling on the bog track but was the end of a long prep and looked a tired horse behind Without Your Blessing. Can sprint well fresh and liked his recent trial at Canberra.
Race 7. (16:15) Anzac Day Cup (Bm78) 1800m
1 City Of Lights (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very talented mare for Joe Pride and keen to see how she goes here. She wouldn’t have looked out of place in races like the Coolmore Classic and Queen Of The Turf but the stable want to see her at a trip, potentially with eyes towards Brisbane maybe? Last start win on the Kenso was arrogant and her tick over trial was very good. Happy to be in her corner.
4 Perfect Play (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Former UK stayer that makes his Australian debut for Annabel Neasham. His best form is at 2400m+, so while on paper he may need the run, he did show zip in a trial win recently and stable does find J Mac to steer so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
8 Fay’s Angels (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very consistent animal for for Karen Owen that should be around the mark. She is a beauty that will just keep chipping away, as seen here two back behind City Of Lights before going to Gosford where she was ridden with more intent and battled away well enough in defeat behind Our Maryanne. Doubt she wins but a must for exotics.
Race 8. (16:50) Beersheba (Bm64) 1550m
4 Wembanyama (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the good thing on the card. John O’Shea trained three year old that should have won at Wyong last time but he got way too far back in the run on a day where up/in was ideal. Maps perfect, rises to 1550m, bigger track and the big tick is when O’Shea puts J Mac on, that = clear intent.
2 Magnatear (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Sam Kavanagh, having not raced since March 2 when running a close up fourth in the Provincial Qualifier at Newcastle behind a potential Group l talent, Tavi Time. The break between runs I find fascinating but he has a touch of quality and will be strong late.
1 Kadavar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Queensland Derby type…whether this is another barrier trial, not entirely sure. He resumed in the South Pacific Classic where he pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial but I really liked the way he found the line behind Panic. Might want one more and 2000m en route to the Derby, he is in with a shout.
