Race 1. (12:53) Ladbrokes Punter Assist Hcp 1400m
1 Felix The Cat (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should prove extremely hard to beat here. He is four weeks between runs for Team Hulbert since a somewhat arrogant win over 1350m at Doomben where he gapped them and won with something in hand. The stable thinks that he could be a Derby horse next season so keen to see how he progresses but in regards to this race, off his lovely trial last week, it’s a case of good luck beating him.
3 Bobby Shiraz (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect given the fact Bjorn Baker brings him up from Sydney for start one. His trial work has been nothing to jump up and down about, but the latest trial was a win and the form out of it has been excellent. Stable rarely gets it wrong when they come this way, so watch the late market and see if it likes him.
2 Adelad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He ran in the Crimson Warning race from two weeks back here where he was near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off, beaten around 2.7L. Think the extra 100m in trip is ideal and if he can settle closer in the run, I think he can run top four.
Race 2. (13:32) Mater Little Miracles (Bm85) 1805m
6 Santero (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp and she can certainly go on with it here. Put together a couple of runner up finishes prior to racing over the mile here two weeks ago where she looked a good thing on paper and despite a few nervous moments when let down, she knuckled to the task and was far too good. Hard to knock the way she’s going and is hard to beat.
3 Kalapour (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can be a big improver here. Kris Lees trained gelding that resumed in a Provincial Championship Final and was very good in defeat from near last on the turn behind a tough nut, True Crime. Like the rise in trip for him and the depth here is far weaker, so he is a leading chance should the favourite be off his game.
5 Stuck With You (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been pretty good in two runs back from a spell. Really caught the eye fresh at Doomben behind Animate before going here two weeks back behind Santero and was good late without threatening, running fourth but not beaten too far. Love him up in trip and if he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take beating I am sure.
Race 3. (14:12) Trevor & Judith St Baker-Bm78 1600m
Looking at this race with The Red Kite out. 10 Unrelenting (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a great bet here. First run for Matty Dale came over 1200m at Wagga, his first run in several weeks, and he made an absolute mess of them from on speed and the win was outstanding given he lumped 61.5kg and was back in trip. Up to a more suitable trip, good weight relief, upside…all points to him.
5 The Red Kite (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is absolutely flying for Mark Currie and is a leading contender against these. He has won 2/3 since joining the stable, the latest win being a fortnight back over this track/distance where he was there to be run down but he found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. He remains well in at the weights and despite the wide gate, is hard to beat.
4 Festival Prince (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is unknown at the mile but for mine, this race is a bit on the thin side so I am not penning him. He ran two weeks back over 1400m here and I thought he was pretty much given every chance by Cassidy but he couldn’t quite get there behind Briars Kingdom. To help his cause, I don’t think they will go hard here, so with his turn of foot, that can certainly come into play.
Race 4. (14:52) Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Hcp 1600m
7 Compass Rose (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a filly heading in the right direction for Tony Gollan. Her opening two career runs had good merit to it and was knocking on the door to break the maiden tag, with start three seeing her do that when a strong winner over this track/distance, albeit the depth in the field is a tad suspect. That said, she is a filly on the up and on breeding, she should eat up the mile.
2 Sha Of Gomer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is starting to put it all together for Chris Waller. Broke the maiden tag with a bit of authority two back over 1200m here before going to 1350m at Doomben where he looked in a bit of trouble on the turn but managed to get clear and drove hard late to win. Little suspect at a strong mile but if this becomes a sit/sprint, he has the turn of foot to be quite dangerous.
6 Binding (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. This girl resumed over 1200m at the Sunny Coast and did more than enough I thought in defeat behind Altar Boy. She then went to 1500m here last Wednesday when taking on the older horses and I thought they rode her a tad too warm when down the track behind Al Aabir. Think with a more patient steer, she can run an improved race.
Race 5. (15:32) Vecchio Property Group (Bm78) 2200m
2 Tip Of The Spear… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) he’s in trouble if he can’t be putting this field away. He’s had four runs in Australia for Annabel Neasham, the latest being last Wednesday at Warwick Farm where he ran third to Goldman, who looks a really good prospect for GaiBott. There is no horse of that quality here and really, I think he only has to hold his form to take care of these.
1 Scarlet Tufty (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) isn’t far off a win I feel for Jack Bruce. He ran over 2400m here two weeks ago where he was off the speed throughout and presented to win under Huxtable. He just couldn’t quite finish the race off and had to settle for a second to the in form Tappy’s Lad. Like him back in trip and really, he only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
6 Go Millo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has tended to save his best for away from metro racing but his last couple of runs have been encouraging enough to suggest he commands respect. Game second at Doomben two back to the in form Heleva Deel before going to 2400m here where he was a bit one paced in the run to the line but stayed on and was sound in defeat behind Tappy’s Lad. Back in trip, he commands respect.
Race 6. (16:12) Chemist Warehouse Plate (C3) 1400m
16 Madame Odette (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has bigger fish to fry but she is a quality filly and 1400m fresh signals some level of intent. She hasn’t raced since the Spring when contesting the Gloaming at Warwick Farm and couldn’t pick her feet up on the bog surface behind Sharp N Smart. First trial was so so, but the second trial was much better and down to 53kg after the claim, 1400m first up…like her.
Fitter and up in trip, I want to give 6 Hype (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) another chance. First run for Kris Lees came at the midweeks at Warwick Farm over 1200m where he just found them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Amortal. He has been a bit plain since arriving from overseas but this looks the weakest race he has contested and getting to 1400m is a big tick IMO.
14 Dutch Gold (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one to include for wider multiples. Shaun Dwyer trained gelding that resumed over 1200m at Ipswich where he didn’t seem to totally happy on the tight track fresh but didn’t mind the way he found the line late when third to Bullion Boy. Has run well at Eagle Farm previously, lands on speed and will run a positive race. Must for multiples.
Race 7. (16:52) Pitchers Partners Hcp 1200m
Like 2 Ranch Hand (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) here. Chris Waller trained gelding that has been kept on ice, four weeks between runs when down the track at Randwick behind Think About It in the Liverpool Cup where the race shape was clearly against him so forgive and forget the run. Tempo will be strong here, he’ll be sitting off it and no doubt in my mind he will be strong at the end.
3 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a bold sight I am sure. He is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he attempted to lead throughout and for the most part, he looked home, but was nabbed late by Jetty. The end of 1200m is the knock but with his racing style, he will give himself every chance.
8 Legal Esprit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m. He was kept relatively safe in betting when resuming over 1000m here two weeks ago and I thought he was a definite pass mark. He was back on the fence but tracked up nicely and finished off his race pretty well I thought when third to Rubiquitous. The end of 1200m is a slight query but with a soft trip in transit, I think he’ll be okay.
Race 8. (17:32) Ace (Bm78) 1200m
9 Kipsbay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a promising animal for Nathan Doyle that resumes. 2/2 when last in work, winning impressively at Gosford before a spank job win in a Midway at Rosehill and looked Saturday class. Couple of strong trials under the belt, he could well put his hand up here and say he could reach heights better than this grade. Happy to be in his corner.
2 Fastconi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks extremely hard to beat against these. He was several weeks between runs when racing over 1200m here a fortnight ago. He was never a factor given where he was in the run but you had to like the way he found the line late behind Manhood, beaten 1.5L. Better for the run under the belt, he’ll take beating with a more positive steer.
6 Leave Me Some (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Cassie Schmidt trained mare that is first up and I think can be dangerous. She is first up, having not raced since November 25 at Canterbury under the lights when back, wide and failing to come on behind Edna. Trial was strong to the eye and maps to get a soft run in transit. Knockout hope if the breaks go his way.
Race 9. (18:12) Gotransit Media Group (Bm85) 1400m
12 Sneak Preview (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has an excellent second up record and fitter, up to 1400m, I think he can run a much improved race. He resumed three weeks ago over 1200m here where the market said it would be a prep run and while he was never a threat, his run was a pass mark given the circumstances and the fact the winner, Deepour, looks very much above average. Might want one more, but with the second up record, don’t sack him.
8 Briars Kingdom (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done a super job since joining Tony Gollan from Team Snowden. Fab win here two weeks back at this track/distance. He was near the speed throughout and was there to be beaten but he found plenty under pressure to fend them off for a super win. The end of 1400m is a slight query with him but off last run, gee he has to be respected.
6 Morethannumberone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Annabel Neasham since winning at this track/distance, aided by a peach ride from Jag. He saved ground nearer the inside and drove hard late to finish best in a good win. The resumption behind Briars Kingdom was encouraging and being third up here, he should just about be at peak fitness.
