Racing returns to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday for a strong nine race program with really good depth right across the board. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:40) : Tab.com.au Plate 1200m:

Back Me: 7 Tangled (Bet Now: $11.00) is a well bred colt that debuts for the Chris Waller yard. He trialled well here a couple of weeks back and to the eye he looked pretty impressive when making ground nearer the inside despite not being placed under pressure when running fourth. He was the only horse Waller nominated for the Inglis Nursery last week, and considering the numbers he has, it might pay to watch the market with this colt.
Big Danger: 3 Falconic (Bet Now: $3.30) is a well bred colt that was kept very safe in the market when debuting here a fortnight back and his effort was very good I thought. Sat up outside the speed most of the way before taking the lead and as he did that, he got the wanders and didn’t know what to do, but once Coorg went past him, he found again and was strong to the line. He has the race day experience and I am tipping that form to be okay.
Long Shot: 10 Maheera (Bet Now: $16.00) is a well bred filly trained by Michael Freedman who debuted over the short course at Kembla Grange a fortnight back and was solid in defeat behind tearaway winner She Will Reign, who franked the form by bolting up in the Nursery. Her respective time was very good and good enough to suggest she’ll be ultra competitive here, especially from the inside gate with Avdulla steering.

Race Two (13:20) : ATC Membership Handicap (72) 1400m:

Back Me: 3 Achi Baba (Bet Now: $2.50) was a dominant winner first up at Beaumont-Newcastle before being freshened up and racing over this track/distance a fortnight back where he sat on speed and looked to travel well throughout. He gave a kick down the straight but was just no match for the classy filly Zumbelina. That was his first run in a month, so he should have upside.
Big Danger: 1 Pipeline (Bet Now: $3.70) is heading towards the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, so I think whatever he does here, he will improve on, but there was alot to like about his win over 1200m here three weeks ago where he sat off a genuine tempo before Tim Clark pushed the button and away he went for a super win, beating home the subsequent Inglis Sprint winner Calanda. Rises in weight, but has class and quality.
Long Shot: 7 Fast ‘N’ Rolling (Bet Now: $19.00) took a while to break his maiden status, but he did it in impressive fashion last time out at Kyneton over 1400m on a bog track when defeating the Lloyd Williams galloper Bissel, who does look talented. The form around the Hayes/Dabernig galloper from the Winter reads so well for a race like this and when the stable send them to Sydney, respect the move.

Race Three (13:55) : TAB Rewards Handicap (85) 1800m:

Back Me: 6 Montauk (Bet Now: $6.50) is a hard horse to trust, but he seems to be a more genuine in terms of wanting to win in recent times. It all started when he was thrown over the line to win at Canterbury and in three subsequent runs, he hasn’t been far away at all, the latest behind My Psychiatrist, who ran well in the Christmas Cup last week. That was 2000m, so I think 1800m will suit him perfectly and I am happy to be in his corner.
Big Danger: 4 Multifacets (Bet Now: $4.40) also comes through the My Psychiatrist race where he had the charmed run behind the tempo and was given every chance in the run by Tommy Berry and though he loomed to win the race he just couldn’t quite finish it off and was gathered in late. I think he is another suited back to 1800m, he’s hard fit and in really good form.
Long Shot: 1 Herne’s Oak (Bet Now: $7.00) looks a serious knockout hope here at a price. He hasn’t raced since November 26 over 2400m here in that real gutbusting race won by Soviet Courage where they ran at a brutal tempo. The form out of that hasn’t stood up at all, largely due to the fact that it was a fast run event and subsequent runners have raced flat. This bloke has been slightly freshened up and trialled up well last week at Randwick under Avdulla, who rides here and rides the horse better than anyone.

Race Four (14:30) : Hyland Boxing Day Sale Handicap (85) 1350m:

Back Me: 8 Bonny O’Reilly (Bet Now: $3.50) is a talented mare for Bjorn Baker who gets her first taste of Saturday racing and now seems the right time to tackle it after three runs this time in, all of which have come at Canterbury, the latest coming under the lights on December 9 where she was heavily backed and though the win was narrow, it was impressive. Gets weight relief here, suited up to 1350m and has some upside.
Big Danger: 5 Nudierudie (Bet Now: $5.50) is a mare in really good form this time in for Team Hawkes. She ran over 1200m here three weeks back against her own sex where she had a charmed run behind the tempo and once Tommy peeled her out, it looked as if it was no betting, but she couldn’t quite get past Dee Nine Elle and has to settle for second. Meets that mare 1kg better off here and I think she can turn the tables on her and prove hard to beat here.
Long Shot: 4 Wine Tales…(Bet Now: $12.00) I almost feel the need to do 10 Hail Marys just typing her name, but in all seriousness, she hasn’t been racing too bad this time in. She took on the boys over 1400m here two weeks back where she sat last in the run before presenting wide on the turn and she did show a nice turn of foot, but given the leaders didn’t go hard, she couldn’t sustain it. Back to her own sex and back to 1350m…I don’t want to say she can win, because I’ll need to do another 10 Hail Marys, but she is a chance.

Race Five (15:05) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1500m:

Back Me: 9 Madame De Ban (Bet Now: $3.10) has some really strong city form in Brisbane next to her name, and she has the Matty Dunn polish, so she has to be enormously respected here. She ran over the Eagle Farm mile a fortnight back where she had a charmed run near the speed and fought on strongly but was no match late for the above average Arki. Back to 1500m and back in depth should see her in the finish.
Big Danger: 8 Circle Game (Bet Now: $5.50) resumed a tick under four weeks back on her home track at Canberra and gee she was explosive in winning, getting back in the run but looked to be absolutely bolting and once the gap appeared, she dashed and just savaged the line. She has Highway and city form from last prep, so she gets ticks there, she has upside and is a second up winner.
Long Shot: 16 A Cubana (Bet Now: $12.00) is somewhat of a Highway specialist so he has to be regarded as a threat here. He ran in a Highway over 1400m here a fortnight back where he got back in the run and closed off nicely late when running third to I Told Georgie. Stepping back up to 1500m, draw suits and is down in the weights again.

Race Six (15:40) : Merry Christmas From James Boags Premium Handicap (78) 1500m:

Back Me: 8 Kandinsky (Bet Now: $5.00) turned it up here two back when he cruised to the front but didn’t finish it off when fourth to Choice We Had. He then stepped up to this trip and was ridden far too negatively in a race dominated by those nearer the tempo yet he made up a stack of ground late behind Hogamany. If he can sit closer in the run here, he’ll take some beating.
Big Danger: 7 Heartlings (Bet Now: $5.00) ran over 1400m here two weeks back against her own sex where she was ridden forward from the wide gate, which is against her racing pattern, and that probably cost her the win over Girl Sunday because she was left gassed whereas the leader/winner had that little kick left. I think with cover, she can go one better, and being third up, she should be ready to peak.
Long Shot: 5 Classic Uniform (Bet Now: $10.00) was given a 12/10 from Tim Clark to win two back at Canterbury before racing over this track/distance where he copped serious heat on speed yet fought on strongly over the concluding stages to run a close up fourth to Hogamany, beaten 1.4L. If he can get a cheap fraction on speed here, he’ll take some running down.

Race Seven (16:20) : December Handicap 1400m:

Back Me: 2 Religify (Bet Now: $3.20) for me here and with some confidence. He ran over this track/distance five weeks back and was ridden with some confidence and arrogance from McEvoy and the six year old duly bolted up and made a mess of them after being heavily backed. What I will say is that he was flattered a touch by the on speed bias, but he did win with authority. Gets the map favours here and should take a stack of beating.
Big Danger: 3 Snippets Land (Bet Now: $10.00) has been given a six week freshen up since resuming over 1200m here in what looked an unsuitable race on paper but it turned out to be ideal for him given the unlikely hot tempo that eventuated, with the gelding finishing off strongly to run second to Lunar Rise. Trialled up well last Tuesday at Randwick and has a tidy second up record.
Long Shot: 6 Dances On Stars (Bet Now: $26.00) returns home after a mission up North at Eagle Farm for a Quality over 1500m and I thought his effort was huge considering he was back near last in the run and was forced to near the outside fence whereas the two horses that beat him saved ground near the inside. Start prior he was making ground behind Religify over this track/distance so he is right in this.

Race Eight (17:00) : #theraces Handicap (77) 1350m:

Back Me: 4 Sir Plush (Bet Now: $3.90) for me here in a tricky but solid event. Attacked everywhere two back over 1400m here when beaten in the last couple of strides by Choice We Had. He then stepped up to 1500m where he tried very hard but just couldn’t quite hold out Redoutable Heart, a horse who has come back in super order. They gapped the rest, and I think back to 1350m will really suit.
Big Danger: 11 Hand From Above (Bet Now: $8.00) resumed over 1200m here two weeks back and was involved in the very messy race won by Isorich. There were many unlucky runners to come from that race and I think he was near the top of the tree. He was about to burst through and probably win the race until the 150m when the run closed on him and he went to the line under a hold. He can be a hard horse to trust, but on that fresh effort, he’ll go awfully close here.
Long Shot: 2 Careless (Bet Now: $9.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over 1400m last Saturday at Randwick where he sat outside the leader Sabino Speed and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite get past the leader. He was 1100 to 1400 so with that hard 1400m effort under the belt, he should be much better off here and does get map favours.

Race Nine (17:40) : TAB Handicap (85) 1200m:

Back Me: 11 Suspense (Bet Now: $8.00) has been a bit hard to follow in recent times, but gee on his best form, he’d give this an almighty shake. He hasn’t raced since November 5 when running a game fourth to Grunderzeit at Canterbury. Freshened up and looked the part to my eye in a Randwick trial last week. Draws well and gets Shinn steering. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 13 Perfect Dare (Bet Now: $6.00) is a gelding in super form at the moment for Matty Dunn. Scored an impressive win two back at Eagle Farm, beating In His Stride, who has since come out and bolted in. Then Dunn sent this horse here where he led at a good gallop and he fought on strongly but was no match for Ziggy Willie. I think ridden with a sit, he’ll be more effective, and from the good gate, that should happen.
Long Shot: 18 Lady Jivago (Bet Now: $19.00) is a mare who be a knockout chance here at odds. She ran over 1100m here two weeks back where it looked as if she was a little unlucky not to finish closer given she got held up a touch halfway down the straight when finishing a close up seventh to Sugar Bay Leonard. Up to 1200m is a tick for her, she has a good record at Rosehill and she strikes a very winnable race.
