Queensland racing this Saturday will take place at Doomben where the highlight will be the continual battle in the Origin Series between the jockeys. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:27) : Merry Christmas All From The BRC Handicap 1615m:
Back Me: 1 Realing (Bet Now: $3.70) for me here. He ran over this distance at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he got a long way out of his ground and was off the bit, but he picked up before the turn and gee he really attacked the line with purpose to score a narrow but impressive win. Impressive at this track the start prior, so I am happy to be with him.
Big Danger: 2 Zamex (Bet Now: $3.80) is two from two and has to be respected big time here. He ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm last Wednesday where he did a bit wrong in the run, but once he put it all together, he was just far too good for his rivals. Gives the impression he will eat up the mile and has upside compared to most here who have reached their peak and/or are on the decline.
Long Shot: 3 Volpino (Bet Now: $4.40) ran seventh to Realing in that race mentioned above and his effort was more than tidy given he too was back in the run and just took a bit too long to wind up and get into his work. Doomben mile should suit and though he has to improve a bit to turn the tables on Realing, he has to be respected in a solid race.
Race Two (14:03) : Sky Thoroughbred Central Handicap 1050m:
Back Me: 14 Houtzen (Bet Now: $2.10) is the big watch here. Toby Edmonds trained filly by I Am Invincible who debuts here off the back of a very sharp trial win on last Tuesday at the Gold Coast where she bolted up by a space and ran absolutely sizzling time. She was nominated for the Calaway Gal last week, but was saved and instead tackles the easier option. Keen on her.
Big Danger: 3 Cellargirl (Bet Now: $4.80) really had no right to win the race when debuting at Eagle Farm five weeks back given she got badly checked a couple of times in the straight yet she picked herself up and just savaged the line late to get the win in the last stride. She looks well above average based on that and she will only be better suited with the run under the belt.
Long Shot: 8 Show No Shame (Bet Now: $31.00) debuted for Stuart Kendrick over 900m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back and though I’m not sure what she beat depth wise, she was backed at odds and did show a lovely turn of foot to win. We have seen previous via Colosimo that Gold Coast 900m form can stand up in town and this filly looks likely.
Race Three (14:38) : New Years Eve Raceday Handicap (75) 2020m:
Back Me: Giving 17 Shanakee (Bet Now: $12.00) another look here. Was outstayed by Rock On Ivy before Jeff Lloyd put in a rare shocker on the mare behind the same horse last start. She just got way too far back in the run and was nearer the inside, held up behind tired horses. She tried to pick up but just couldn’t build any kind of momentum. I think she is better than these on current form and clearly rates on top. Just needs luck in running.
Big Danger: 4 San Telmo (Bet Now: $3.30) is a really nice stayer on the rise for Bradley Smith. He resumed over the mile at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he got a long way back but trucked up beautifully in to the race and once he peeled, it looked game over, but he couldn’t hold out the finishing burst of Arki. Up to 2000m second up is a query, but he has class and quality about him.
Long Shot: 3 Meteorologist (Bet Now: $21.00) isn’t the most reliable horse to follow in terms of winning, but he does try hard and is knocking on the door I think. He ran over 2200m at Eagle Farm three weeks back and stuck to the task quite gamely in defeat I thought when third to tearaway leader and eventual winner All Clear. Draws well here and gets Brad Rawiller steering. Hard to beat.
Race Four (15:13) : Gopher Coffee Origin Jockey Series Plate (Class 3) 1050m:
Back Me: 1 Always Sacred (Bet Now: $9.00) is the best horse in the race by a few lengths, so I’ll go with him. He performed very well during the Winter Carnival, highlighted by a third in the Gold Coast Guineas behind Takedown. Trials leading in have been outstanding and if he does bring his best form here, and gets normal luck, I think he will do a number on this lot.
Big Danger: 10 Magic Diamond (Bet Now: $4.80) ran over teh short course at Ipswich a couple of weeks back where she was crunched in betting and the punters faith was rewarded when she spanked a somewhat average lot. But go back to her first up effort and she was game in defeat behind Tumbler, who I rate as a future Stakes winner. That reads well for this.
Long Shot: 4 Board Director (Bet Now: $12.00) is a handy gelding that resumes for the Heathcoate yard. He only raced once during the Autumn, which came in late February when making up ground late at the Sunny Coast as an odds on pop. Given a nice hitout at Deagon in late Novemeber, and he is talented when at his best.
Race Five (15:50) : Hamilton Hotel Origin Jockey Series Handicap (80) 1350m:
Back Me: 8 Mystic Opal (Bet Now: $3.00) is a mare that is absolutely low flying at the moment for the Chris Anderson yard. She ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back and if you only had eyes on her, it was just no betting because she was just going so easily in the run and it was a matter of Larry Cassidy just pushing the button at the right time, which he did. She isn’t as dynamic at Doomben but how can you ignore her when she is in this mood.
Big Danger: 5 Fiery Heights (Bet Now: $4.40) was a tough winner two back over 1200m at Eagle Farm before racing over the same track/distance when sitting on speed and whacking away strongly to run fifth to In His Stride, who ran behind Cylinder Beach the start prior, so that form stacks up well and this horse does have a very good record at Doomben.
Long Shot: 3 Denarius (Bet Now: $6.50) was ridden an absolute treat by Spinks to win two back over 1200m at Eagle Farm before racing over the same track/distance where he was enormous in defeat behind In His Stride given he was off the bit well before the home turn and did a lot of chasing but once he balanced up, he picked the bit up again and was strong to the line in running third. Great record at Doomben and he’ll get speed in front of him to give him a chance to run on.
Race Six (16:30) : Gallopers Sports Club Handicap (Class 6) 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Stella Ombra (Bet Now: $5.50) is a gelding in ripping form at the moment for Kelly Schweida. He savaged the line to win over 1000m at Eagle Farm two back before stepping up to 1200m there where he again got back in the run and finished off strongly to run second to In His Stride in what I am sure will turn out to be a hot form race. Solid record at Doomben and looks a major contender.
Big Danger: 16 Jetsonic (Bet Now: $8.00) took on a four horse field at Ipswich first up and even though he was off the bit before the turn, once he hit the straight, he balanced up and attacked the line strongly to nail Cloud Consort right on the peg. Last time he was at Doomben he was just over a length from Perfect Dare, who has gone on to better things. Has upside and and should take some beating.
Long Shot: 8 Siegfried (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented yet frustrating galloper that resumes for the Toby Edmonds yard. He did show a bit of promise during last campaign but just couldn’t quite crack it for a win. Been given a good break and I have loved what I have seen from him in two trials. Inside gate with Lloyd steering, hard to beat.
Race Seven (17:10) : www.brc.com.au Handicap (Class 6) 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Pepperano (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented mare who will take beating at the Gold Coast but she will go close here. She has been freshened up since winning the Subzero race on Oaks Day at Flemington where she did look a beaten horse, but she kept finding under riding to grab Onerous on the peg. Great fresh record and excels at Doomben.
Big Danger: 5 Heartford (Bet Now: $8.00) is a mare in ripping form at the moment for the Stuart Kendrick yard. She ran over 1100m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back where she was given a lovely steer from Nathan Thomas and once she presented into the clear, she lengthened nicely and clung on. 1200m looks ideal, draws a soft gate and gets Wiggins aboard. Hard to beat.
Long Shot: 9 Secret Puzzle (Bet Now: $51.00) drops big time in depth after resuming in the Just Now (1300m) where she sat just off the speed but just lacked the class and finished down the track behind Ravi. This looks more her level and she can be a sharp improver here for sure with luck in running despite the fact she has a bad second up/Doomben record.
Race Eight (17:48) : BRC Membership Handicap (2MW) 1615m:
Back Me: 16 Beckoning Light (Bet Now: $5.50) for me here in what looks a really strong event considering the conditions. She has been a really consistent performer during the Winter/Spring, constantly running well and gaining prizemoney for connections. She ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks back where she got back in the ruck and closed off well late behind the in form mare Mystic Opal. Last time she was at Doomben she ran a narrow second to Emphasis, who came out and won a Quality last week, so that form reads well.
Big Danger: 6 L’Entrecote (Bet Now: $7.50) ran in the 1500m Quality at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago where he had confident market support but for those who were on him, he just got too far back in the run but to his credit he did make up a stack of ground to run a close up fourth. He was once regarded as a real tease and a non winner, but he has performing very well this time in and looks well weighted for mine.
Long Shot: 15 Reckless Abandon (Bet Now: $12.00) ran over 1500m at the Eagle Farm midweeks last Wednesday where he was well backed late in the piece but he never looked like winning. He was off the bit before the turn and going nowhere, but he did pick up over the final 200m and was strong through the line, so stepping up to the mile suits and he is a three time winner at Doomben.
