24/8/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gold Coast

Queensland metro racing this Saturday makes a rare trip to the Gold Coast where nine races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out half a metre from the 1400m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

He’s up in trip and on the seven day back up but I’m keen on 2 Outraged (Bet Now: $12.00) running well. He ran over the mile at Eagle Farm last Saturday where he ran really good splits between the 800-200m, then just ran out of puff late for the final furlong when midfield behind Looks Like Elvis. He’s done the seven day back up three times for two wins, so that’s no issue and there’s just no depth here.

6 Makdanife (Bet Now: $3.20)  is racing well for Chris Waller, but gee he’s finding it hard to greet the judge first. Given a sweet steer by Avdulla last Wednesday at Warwick Farm and loomed to win but Castel Sant’Angelo had the Tulloch Lodge bone and muscle and was far too good for his rivals, holding Makdanife comfortably. That form is good enough to be competitive here.

1 Happy Go Plucky (Bet Now: $4.20)  is three weeks between runs since racing at Doomben when attempting to lead all the way and he gave a reasonable kick in front but was no match late for the then in form Our Mantra, settling for third. Think the overall depth here isn’t as strong, looks the leader and if he can get a cheap lead, he’ll take some catching for sure here.

3 Defactor (Bet Now: $6.50)  looks a really good prospect and confident he can measure up and beat these. He was a drifter in betting over 1200m here two weeks ago where he sat near last in the run before being presented clear air and I just loved the way he put them away late to win impressively. Stable is absolutely flying at the moment and confident he runs well.

2 Astro Toy Boy (Bet Now: $1.85)  has done little wrong in two career outings. Debuted with an impressive win at the Sunny Coast before going to Doomben when heavily backed and trying hard but couldn’t quite reel in Stampe in a tight go to the line. 1400m on the home track looks a good set up for this son of Deep Field and is clearly one of the key threats here.

4 Splendarama (Bet Now: $10.00)  could be an improver here. Won the maiden two back at the Sunny Coast before racing at Doomben last Wednesday where she sat off a very moderate tempo and pulled her head off, leaving her with nothing really left for the straight when third to Sugar Zone. Hopefully a more genuine tempo will see her relax and she can run an improved race.

6 Aqua Vite (Bet Now: $3.30)  appears to have found a very winnable race. Scott Morrissey trains this bloke, who tends to save his best for his home track here at the Gold Coast and more often than not runs well. He ran over the mile at Doomben three weeks ago when sitting off a moderate speed and trying hard but Shaquin just had it too good in front and kicked strongly. Up to 1800m, he’s hard to beat.

2 Vaucluse Bay (Bet Now: $3.30)  looks suited up in trip. Close up in the Grafton Cup before having a little freshen up and racing over the mile at Doomben two weeks ago where he had a good run near the speed and tried when a close up fourth to Magnufighter in a blanket finish. Like him up in trip on the home track. Only query I have with him is what upside is left.

1 Morendi (Bet Now: $3.60)  is working up to a win. Great effort two back over 1400m before going to the Magnufighter race at Doomben where he was on speed throughout and there to win, but just lacked the turn of foot to get the job done and had to settle for a third, beaten around a head in a close. Like him up to 1800m and third run back from a freshen up, he should be hard fit.

Les Kelly looks to have found a lovely race for 1 Boom Chicka Boom (Bet Now: $2.45) , who is a track/distance specialist given his brilliant sustained speed at this level, which saw him win over 1050m at Doomben three weeks ago, leading all the way and fighting hard late to get the win. On his home track, back to the 900m, hopefully it’s a case of jump, run and win.

You’d love to own a horse like 7 Stellar Power (Bet Now: $5.00). He sat on a pretty good speed over 1050m at Doomben two weeks ago and gave a kick when asked but was no match late for the decent finale produced by Just Orm. I reckon back to 900m will really suit this guy and if he can get cover in the run and a decent drag up into the straight, he’ll take some beating.

6 Truculent (Bet Now: $17.00)  is the interesting runner. Gary Duncan trains this gelding, who is a real short course horse and has a brilliant first up, winning 4/7, including last prep on Boxing Day in a race which has produced six winners. Resumes without a trial, but given his fresh record, I dare say he’s ready to go and certainly has the sustained speed under the bonnet to threaten.

This race looks impossible. In saying that, I think 3 All Pluck (Bet Now: $10.00) is value. He resumes off the back of a mixed Autumn prep where he won a couple of races but then soon after was poor, so he is a bit hit and miss, but has trialled well leading in and did run third first up last prep behind a then in form Curdled with Dream Master second. $4 for that horse vs near $19 All Pluck, happy to be with the latter e/w.

The scratchings means that 8 Dream Master (Bet Now: $3.10) will be a safe option for most. He’s been good in both runs back from break, gets the claim for Murphy, draws well, home track, stable in form…plenty of boxes ticked. The worry I have is that it’s been a little while since he has won and what pressure he could well cop from Masterati with the light weight. Can win, but can’t back.

5 Amenzel (Bet Now: $4.50) is racing really well at the moment for Les Kelly and the big tick is getting back onto his home track, where he saves his best. He ran at Doomben last time out, where the query was whether or not he could run well away from home, and the answer is yes he could because he was on speed and fought on well to run third to impressive winner Unlikely Story. Ticks plenty of boxes here.

Had to like the first up run of 16 Veranes (Bet Now: $8.00)  at Doomben from three weeks ago. This mare was well specked late in betting but just got into a tricky spot from the wide gate and was never really a winning threat but her last 100-150m was excellent when fourth to Six Sigma. Form out of that race I think in time will be good but for now it’s a tad suspect. That’s the query but home track, with upside, she’s likeable.

13 Hollaback Girl (Bet Now: $3.00)  looks a talented mare for Tony Gollan who deserves another crack at Saturday grade. Admittedly the race was set up for her last time out at Ipswich, sitting off a fast speed, but still had to get the job done and she did it in impressive fashion. Looks to get a similar set up and should have some upside, just can’t back her at around $4.

6 Saxton Rock (Bet Now: $20.00)  is a talented gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Feb 9 at Doomben over the mile when pulling up mildly dehydrated behind the then in form Reckless Choice. His form form last prep just reads so much better than these. Just depends on where he is at re fitness given he’s fresh over an unsuitable trip, but the trial leading in was good.

Nightmare race this. Landed with 8 Galway (Bet Now: $6.00)  for Brett Dodson. He ran over the mile on Coffs Harbour Cup Day when getting cover from the gate and a nice drag up into the race before getting clear air late and finishing best in a tight go to win. Form out of the race has been good and hopefully Hellyer can take advantage of the inside gate and sit closer in the run.

Have to give respect to 1 Galtero (Bet Now: $3.10) . Been hot on him winning one this prep and he finally did it last start at Doomben over the mile, aided by a peach from Nothdurft, who had the horse much more handy to the speed than normal, and with the two in front going silly, it was a matter of pushing the button and winning, which he duly did. Up to 1800m looks ideal and IMO has room for improvement.

6 Polemic (Bet Now: $13.00)  is knocking on the door to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here. He comes through the Galtero race from two weeks ago at Doomben when back off a good speed and was somewhat run off his legs but picked up late and was good in defeat when running second. Up to 1800m on the home track, it looks a good set up for this gelding.

I think 11 Rise To Fame (Bet Now: $26.00)  is worth an each way ticket. Mick Attard has done a fab job with this horse recently and given how well he’s going, he’s being asked to carry too much weight up North, so he raced at the Sunny Coast last start with 61.5kg and made up decent ground from off the pace when second to Potro Duro. Won’t know himself with 54kg on his back and looks one of the main chances.

Up to 1400m is a query with 4 Tardis (Bet Now: $3.40)  but she’s going well. This mare was a game third to Adoradancer two back at Eagle Farm before going to Doomben when near the speed and trying hard but just failing to get the win when beaten narrowly by Epic Girl, who won again last Saturday to tick that form off. Just failing to see out 1200m recently so that’s why 1400m is a query, but she’s in form.

9 Ponytales (Bet Now: $14.00)  doesn’t have the greatest of records at the Gold Coast but I think this mare could add some value to exotics. She resumed at Doomben two weeks ago over 1200m when getting a cheap run nearer the inside and found the line okay without really threatening behind the in form Epic Girl. Extremely suited up to 1400m and can run well second up.

Looks a good race for the Chris Meagher trained 3 Handsome Thief (Bet Now: $5.50). Impressive winner two back at Doomben before racing there again three weeks back when well off the speed and finishing hard late to run a close up third to Tarzan in a blanket finish. Bigger track looks ideal for this gelding and if he’s within range on the turn, I think class will get him home.

13 Drachenfels…(Bet Now: $6.00)  surely he’s got a win in him. I couldn’t back him to win myself, but concede Bjorn Baker has him going very well. The horse just isn’t giving himself every chance to win by wanting to lay in under pressure when seemingly having something to offer. Perhaps the trip away will spark him into action and he certainly finds a winnable race here.

1 Care To Think (Bet Now: $14.00)  is the unknown. He opened favourite in the Ramornie but then on race day just drifted out every time you looked, he ended up starting $13+ and pulled up with a respiratory noise post race. Has had two trials since and has looked good each time, but the last couple of times he has been under race day pressure, he’s not pulled up 100%. If you knew he was right, you’d put everything on him. Just not sure where he is at.
