A strong eight race program has been assembled for Sandown Lakeside this Wednesday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

5 Michigan (Bet Now: $2.60) is a son of Written Tycoon for the Michael Moroney camp that resumes. This guy has had two career outings and has finished runner up on both occasions. Latest run came at Kyneton back in October when second to Nicolini Vito. Two jumpouts to get ready and finds a winnable maiden.

Danger

8 Schauffele (Bet Now: $5.50) can be an improver here at start two. Debuted for Wendy Kelly at Cranbourne where he was unwanted in betting but despite that, thought he ran quite well without much room late. Tricky draw and depth is deeper, but big tick for this guy is getting the services of Jamie Kah.

Long Shot

3 Foturi (Bet Now: $9.00) is a three year old gelding for Team Hawkes that is on debut and I think has to be watched closely. He has moved alright in a couple of recent jumpouts, including at Werribee, and the stable are starting to fire with their first up runners, as we saw last week with Pale King, so watch the market.

Race 2. (15:05) Ladbrokes Easy Form Handicap 1300m

Tricky 2YO race this. I’ll side the way of 12 Elegant Boom (Bet Now: $4.00), resuming for Phillip Stokes. This girl debuted on the Parks track at Morphettville back in November when hard in the market and I thought she was a tad disappointing when fourth to Gulf Of Suez, who has run well in decent races since. Two jumpouts at Pakenham have been strong and should get a lovely run from the draw.

Danger

4 Divina Calle (Bet Now: $6.00) should appreciate the rise in trip. Kav sent this girl to the Parks track at Morphettville for her debut just over two weeks ago. Tardy away and was back last in the run, which is such an awful spot to be on that track. Thought she did a super job to finish off and get as close as she did. Jamie Kah on, think she’s hard to beat.

Long Shot

11 Biscayne Bay (Bet Now: $21.00) can be an improver here. She debuted in the SA 2YO Magic Millions at Murray Bridge. She was back near last in the run and never really a winning threat, but didn’t mind the way she finished off her race behind Scorched Earth, who has since won at Stakes level at the Valley, so the form has been ticked off.

Race 3. (15:40) Ladbrokes Split Multi Handicap (64) 1600m

3 Translator (Bet Now: $4.40) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. Nigel Blackiston trained gelding that is a few weeks between runs since racing on Wangaratta Cup Day. He was well tried to win and looked the winner, but couldn’t quite get there when second to Fontein Diamond, who won at the Valley next start, so the form reads well.

Danger

2 Savvy Lad (Bet Now: $8.50) is a hard horse to catch but his best is certainly good enough to be around the mark. Resumed over 1400m at Ballarat when heavily backed and if you were on, it was an ugly watch. Badly held up at a vital stage and could easily make a case to see he should have won. With progression from that, hard to beat here.

Long Shot

1 Prince Of Helena (Bet Now: $3.50) is a real model of consistency and should be around the mark once again. Ran over 1400m here two weeks ago when back near last in the run and never really a winning threat, but liked the way he finished his race off when third to Faretti. Up to the mile, potential juice in the track, it reads well.

Race 4. (16:15) Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (64) 1200m

I was worried about 9 Quietly Discreet (Bet Now: $2.60) with potential rain, but now the track is firm, I’m in her corner. How good she is, I do not know, because her two wins were against moderate opposition, but she ran decent time on both occasions. Has trialled well leading in and I dare say from the good draw will be looking to lead throughout.

Danger

6 The Billionaire (Bet Now: $3.00) deserves to have a crack in town. The Freedman camp has placed this horse to advantage this prep and has won 2/3, the last start seeing him bolt up at Wangaratta from the front. Looked a good thing recently at Moonee Valley but the rain meant he didn’t run. Key chance here in a stronger race.

Long Shot

11 Wild Charlotte (Bet Now: $6.50) is a progressive mare for Shea Eden that should prove hard to beat despite the query of wet ground. Her best efforts have come on firmer footing, notably last start where she resumed at Stony Creek and produced a very strong finale from off the speed to win. She can measure up for sure. Just not sure if the track has give in it.

Race 5. (16:50) The Big Screen Company Handicap (64) 1300m

Back Me

8 Elidi (Bet Now: $4.20) is flying for Phillip Stokes and I think the jockey upgrade will be enough to get her home. Should have won last start at Pakenham. Just got held up at a bad stage but eventually got clear and surged hard to just miss. If she’s within range on the turn, she has the finale to beat these.

Danger

1 Sirileo Miss (Bet Now: $4.80) looks to have her share of talent for Symon Wilde that resumes. The query is will this be a lead in run for a target during the upcoming Warrnambool Carnival, or will they target this race, get her rating up and tackle blacktype in Adelaide. Market will be fascinating, but she does have the talent to win this and better races I feel.

Long Shot

Keen to see how 6 Bold Manner (Bet Now: $6.50) goes. Archie Alexander trained filly that was kept quite hard in the market when debuting over 1300m at Stawell. Was wide no cover but she still looked to be going easily before being clicked up and showed good change up speed to win well. Off that, has to be respected here.

Race 6. (17:25) Tile Importer Handicap (64) 2100m

Going to give 1 Bondi Sands (Bet Now: $9.50) another chance for Danny O’Brien. Even though he ran last at his Australian debut over the mile, a field of eight, he was beaten only five lengths and there was enough late to suggest a rise in trip will suit, and the other positive lead is that Olly sticks from the resumption.

Danger

10 Rippa Choice (Bet Now: $6.00) is on the seven day back up for Sarah Zschoke after racing last Wednesday at this track/distance. He sat off the speed and tried hard to get the win, but had to settle for a narrow second to Sign Seal Deliver. He’s hard fit, racing well and should be better for that 2100m run under the belt.

Long Shot

6 Rajpipla (Bet Now: $14.00) deserves a crack in town. Brian McGrath has had good success at Sandown in 2021 and this horse is a horse in form. He has won his past two, winning two back at Werribee in a slog before going to Colac where he was the first off the bit but kept finding under pressure and kicked on strongly to win. Jamie Kah on, soft draw, he can win without surprising.

Race 7. (18:00) IVE > Print Handicap (70) 2100m

Back Me

6 Johandough (Bet Now: $2.80) looks one of two good things to my eye on this program. Her winning record isn’t flash, but she does come here as a first up winner, which came over 2000m at Ballarat and she was dominant. Fresh at 2000m indicated she’s still got residual fitness from last prep and overall, this race isn’t strong. She’ll put herself on speed and proving very hard to run down.

Danger

5 Fiorente Lass (Bet Now: $4.60) has returned in good order for Matty Williams. Good late fresh at Colac before going to the Country Final at the Valley and she was one of the unlucky runners out wide when a close up third. Gets to a more suitable trip this time around and Jamie Kah sticks.

Long Shot

10 Kanzai (Bet Now: $8.00) looks quite dour to me, so 2100m should be okay for this Nigel Blackiston. Was keen on her in that Rebel Racer from a few weeks ago here and kept finding the line, but thought she had her chance. I think the rise in trip will be a positive for this lightly raced mare.

Race 8. (18:30) Ladbrokes Blended Multi Handicap (64) 1400m

Great to see 8 Excelleration (Bet Now: $1.80) back at the races. Very talented gelding for Richard Cully that resumes after such a promising opening prep in the Spring. Gave them a spanking on debut at Terang before racing over 1400m on the Hillside track and finishing hard late when second to Fundraiser. Recent jumpout win was a lovely piece of work and if he’s within range 400m out, good luck beating him.

Danger

12 The Stager (Bet Now: $3.80) should run well for the Hayes/Dabernig camp. Few weeks between runs since bolting up in a 1400m maiden at Sale, where he was on speed under Jamie Mott and once he clicked the four year old up, away he went and he was dominant. Harder here, but should be around the mark from near the speed.

Long Shot

7 Governor Landy (Bet Now: $8.00) is on the seven day back up for Tony Noonan since racing last Wednesday here. He chased strongly from off the speed, but couldn’t quite get there when second to South Parade, a progressive three year old who is starting to put it together. Gets the 3kg claim, hard fit, in form…knockout chance.
