Race 1. (18:00) Racing And Sports Mdn Hcp 1100m
1 Chevron (Bet Now: $SP.00) is finally placed to advantage and is dangerous. Far from disgraced on debut in the Canonbury before going to the Pierro where he attempted to lead throughout but tired and finished down the track behind Cafe Millennium. That is A1 juvenile form, so if you take that into consideration, he is a big price here and shouldn’t be underestimated.
10 Untouchable Legend (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an I Am Invincible filly for Team Hawkes that is on debut. She had a prep in the Spring in Melbourne but didn’t run and was spelled. Has come back, now in Sydney and seemingly moved well enough when winning a Rosehill trial. Interesting that the stable finds J Mac to steer so I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.
3 Souttar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an I Am Invincible colt for Brad Widdup that is on debut. He hasn’t quite set the world on fire in a couple of trials but there has been enough there to suggest he has talent, and enough to suggest he could be a sneaky chance here at a price, especially drawn soft and likely to be strong at the end. One for exotics.
Race 2. (18:30) Tab (Bm64) 1200m
4 Demiana (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have a decent engine under the hood and enough to say she can resume a winner and make it 2/2 to start her career. Her debut came here on December 16 when a sharp winner over this track/distance, albeit the time was nothing to jump up and down about. Trial was strong enough to the eye and this isn’t a deep race. She’ll do me.
7 Lomandra (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Hawkes filly with talent. Debuted in the Quezette in the Melbourne Spring when down the track behind Bound For Home. Spelled and resumed in a Warwick Farm maiden where she led throughout and was too good for Pereille, who was beaten on Wednesday, so the form is a tad on the suspect side, but she has the right racing pattern to give herself every chance.
8 Ningaloo Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to town as a last start winner and has the right racing pattern to give herself every chance. The last start came over 1200m at Newcastle where she was on speed throughout before being clicked up by Latham and she drew clear late to win and win nicely. Gets in well enough after the claim and maps ideally from the inside gate.
Race 3. (19:00) Furphy (Bm64) 1900m
1 Wategos (Bet Now: $SP.00) picks himself here. Bjorn Baker trained gelding that ran last Wednesday on the Kenso track where he produced sustained speed from the front, giving them an absolute belting in leading throughout. Drawn wide, but should slide forward, and with the claim for Gibbons, he gets in pretty well at the weights and the depth is on the thin side. Keen on his prospects.
6 Infinitive (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the key threat. Daughter of Hellbent for Chris Waller that is on the seven day back up after racing here last Friday night where she got a fair way back in the run and was never really a threat but liked the way she found the line in defeat behind Tavi Time. Gets a big jockey upgrade and if she can settle closer in the run, I think she’ll be quite dangerous.
2 Don Quixote (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in with a shout. Gave them a start and a beating two back at Newcastle before going there again where he got back and spotted them too much head start but was good late when third to Ausbred Rising Sun, who is a very handy three year old. Not sure the track will be suited to his racing pattern, but he is a horse with talent that I think can measure up.
Race 4. (19:30) Quayclean (Bm72) 1550m
5 Awesome John (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Awesome Rock that resumes for John O’Shea. He hasn’t raced since December 17 at Flemington when a close up second to Hasseltoff in a solid Saturday metro race. Just one soft trial to get ready and likely has eyes on the Derby, but he is a horse with quality and will be strong late. I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.
8 Sensationalisation (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the hard fit horse with an ideal map. She ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where she was near the speed throughout and under Nash. She looked the winner on the turn but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow third to Songbird Lustre. Draws wide but should slide forward and after scratchings, this race is now on the thin side.
10 Charity Spirit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Gary Portelli. I was on her back when she ran here two weeks back and with clear air, she wins instead of a narrow second to Regal Pom, just getting badly held up at the wrong time. The gate makes things tricky, likely dragged back to last, but if they overdo it in front, look for her to launch late.
Race 5. (20:00) The Agency Real Estate (Bm72) 1250m
4 Pungo (Bet Now: $SP.00) reminds me of Able Willie. Very good in the Spring, resumed at the night meeting and didn’t go on with it at all. That said, I do think Pungo is very good. He had a three run Spring prep, ending the prep with a tiring fifth in the Carbine Club. He cruised in a fast Rosehill trial, he’s been gelded…to me, this looks a kill, get a confidence/ratings boost and then go to Stakes grade.
6 Jayanthi (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in an eight start career for the Maher/Eustace camp. She was knocking on the door to win in town and that came last start at the midweeks at Warwick Farm under a peach steer from J Mac, a rare one for him in recent times. Gets in well after the claim for Gibbons and maps to get a sweet run in transit. The key and perhaps only threat.
3 Pole Position (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been excellent this time in for Joe Pride, winning 2/2. Tough on speed win fresh at Wyong before going to Newcastle where he seemed to really react on the bigger track and was impressive from on speed again. Good test here, but hard fit, in form, should land on speed and take running down if the track is playing up/in.
Race 6. (20:30) Precise Fire (Bm72) 1900m
5 Wineglass Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) has talent, but gee he is finding it hard to win. He ran three weeks ago over 1800m at Randwick where he arguably should have won. Got tightened between runners before eventually getting clear and drove hard late, just missing out on the win. J Mac is back on and hard fit, getting to 1900m, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
The blinkers are off 3 Silent Agenda (Bet Now: $SP.00) which I find interesting. He ran over 1550m last Friday night here when near the speed throughout and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there behind For Valour. Good track/distance record and should lob into a beaut spot from the gate, plus I like Joe Pride runners on the back up.
1 Yukon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He ran over this track/distance two weeks back where he had a suck run nearer the inside and while he was never really a winning threat, I liked the way he found the line late in the piece when second to Zouson Boy. Gets in well enough after the claim and should get every chance from the gate to be around the mark.
Race 7. (21:00) Kia Night Sprint Final (Bm78) 1100m
5 Diamond Dealer (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top. Bjorn Baker trained mare that led throughout and was too good for them two back at Randwick before going to Warwick Farm where they rode her with a sit and it somewhat backfired. She was wide no cover for the trip and just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Jayanthi. Tricky gate, but should slide forward and gets J Mac aboard.
4 Mars Mission (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Deep Field for Team Hawkes that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Gong Day at Kembla when four wide no cover for the trip and was entitled to drop right away, but credit to him, he battled on pretty well in defeat behind Cuban Royale, who has gone on to win a Stakes race. Good fresh horse and really liked his recent trial. Hard to beat first up despite the draw.
2 Classy Jaybee (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the map horse and brings strong Saturday metro form. Three weeks between runs since racing at Randwick when wide no cover throughout and tired late to finish down the track behind a quality animal, Remarque, who would be $1.10 against this lot. Gets a much better run in transit this time around and the depth is nowhere near as strong.
Race 8. (21:30) Yes Yes Yes 1St Yearlings-Bm72 1200m
7 Kazou (Bet Now: $SP.00), all things being equal, should be winning this. She resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago and just forget she went around. She was tardy away, got keen in the run and then when it came to getting clear, it didn’t really eventuate. Jumps clean here, she should land on speed and off her debut win, she has a bit on these, so I’ll bank on her producing it here.
2 Junqueira (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the key threat. John O’Shea trained filly that has been kept on ice, having not raced since Australia Day at Warwick Farm where she was good from off the speed, just failing to get Espirito. The win prior at the Gold Coast was dominant and even though J Mac jumps off to stick with Kazou, she has more fitness under the belt and maps to get a perfect run in transit.
1 Sebrenco (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Tracey Bartley trained mare that resumes, potentially with eyes towards the Provincial Championship. She hasn’t raced since Hunter Day at Newcastle in a Midway where she ran a solid third to Floating, who looked like Winx the way he arrogantly put them away. Resumes without a trial, so I am thinking this is the trial, but she has talent.
