Race 1. (12:50) Kirkham Plate 1000m
I’m going the way of 11 Socialist (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) in the opener. Daughter of Capitalist for the Maher/Eustace camp that has had had two trials to get ready. Didn’t exactly smash the clock when winning her Gosford trial, but gee she looked to be trucking with something to give. 3kg claim for Louise Day means she will only carry 51.5kg. Can see her pinging the lids, leading and running along and hopefully clinging on.
5 Total Babe (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is the one with race experience. She debuted in the Gimcrack and ran a very credible race, but bumped into a potential star in Enthaar. Race experience should always be respected in these early 2YO races and she has the WaterBott polish, so all that combined, she has to be rated highly.
4 Tiger Of Malay (Bet Now: $26.000 TOP ODDS) is big odds here. He looks a good mover for the Freedman camp. Only one trial to get ready, which came at Warwick Farm, but I liked the way he found the line under riding behind Ghostwriter. Stable have a good record with their juveniles, he draws soft and Jason Collett is in super form.
Race 2. (13:25) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1800m
Think the rise to 1800m and right down in the weights is a good set up for 11 Cosmic Haze (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS). Was really keen on her when she raced on Coonamble Cup Day but got too far back in a slowly run race and had far too much to do behind Chambermaid. If she can sit closer in the run, she’ll take a power of beating.
Looks a lovely race for the Danny Williams trained 5 Rent A Rock (Bet Now: $4.40 TOP ODDS). Was keen on him at the odds when he contested the 1600m Highway here two weeks ago. Just got held up for a stride or two when wanting to build the revs before getting clear late and charging, just missing out on the win. He’ll love the 1800m and I’m pretty keen he goes close.
6 Saint Ambrose (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS) has got more to come I think. Will Freedman trained gelding that found a really thin race at Gunnedah last time out. Still, had to put them away, and he did so impressively, a much needed confidence boost given it was a little while between wins for him. Now his confidence is up, think he can measure up here.
Race 3. (14:00) Brian Crowley Stakes 1200m
The form around 1 Destination (Bet Now: $3.10 TOP ODDS) just reads so well for a race like this. James Cummings trained three year old that really hasn’t put a foot wrong this time in. Two back ran a close up second to Prime Star, who has since been Group ll placed. Then last time out split Wild Ruler and Forbidden Love, both of which are subsequent Stakes winners. Tick over trial on Monday was a lovely piece of work and he’ll take a power of beating.
2 On The Lead (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) has his share of talent. Team Freedman trained three year old that contested the Roman Consul two weeks ago at this track/distance and found the line pretty well, but clearly no match for a live Coolmore contender in Wild Ruler. That form has to hold up nicely for a race like this.
5 Tommy Gold (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) is a Sacred Falls colt for John O’Shea that resumes. He hasn’t raced since breaking his maiden status on the Kenso track here back in May, and noteworthy that the maiden has produced seven winners, so it’s been a red hot form reference. Think whatever he does here, he’ll improve on, but he’s got quality.
Race 4. (14:35) Robrick Lodge Filante Hcp 1400m
8 Criaderas (Bet Now: $1.90 TOP ODDS) needs to win this I dare say to get into the Golden Eagle field, or be any chance at least. His rating of 79 is too low for the Golden Eagle so does need to win here I think. His two runs back from a break have been excellent, the latest seeing him win two weeks ago here. His racing pattern is awful, but he’s got a decent engine under the hood.
1 Ranier (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) looks to have returned well for James Cummings. Resumed in the Theo Marks several weeks ago here and was a real eye catcher late from the back when third to impressive winner and Epsom contender Wild Planet. Good second and the rise to 1400m I see as a positive. One of the hardest to beat in a competitive race.
3 Archedemus (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is a Team Hawkes trained gelding who I think will take some beating here. He resumed in the Weekend Hussler at Caulfield two weeks ago where he was near a hot speed throughout and in a race dominated by swoopers, he was brave when third to Windstorm. He’ll go close if he holds that form.
Race 5. (15:15) City Tatts Club Cup 2400m
4 Djukon (Bet Now: $4.50) finds such a winnable race to break his run of outs in Australia. Produced positive form for the first time since arriving when a close up second to Attorney in the Colin Stephen. That form has been ticked off via Attorney running well last Saturday and Grey Lion winning. Tick over trial was strong and this race is very thin.
3 Girl Tuesday (Bet Now: $4.20) has done a good job since joining Clarry Connors. Admittedly she hasn’t won, but she hasn’t been too far away, the latest in the Metropolitan three weeks ago when a solid seventh to Mirage Dancer. She’s going well and finds a really winnable race here. Just wants a dry track, so weather will determine her chances.
5 Attention Run (Bet Now: $9.00) can run an improved race here at odds. She comes through the Metropolitan where she was back in the run and never really a factor behind Mirage Dancer. Much better suited at this level and her overall recent form does read well for a race like this. Just depends what upside, if any, is left.
Race 6. (15:55) Bondi Stakes 1600m
1 Peltzer (Bet Now: $3.00) has the runs on the board, so he has to be respected. He got control in front for the first time this prep when contesting the Stan Fox two weeks ago here and he duly saluted, with Tim Clark rating him perfectly from the front. 1600m is a little query, but if he can get control again, he’ll take some beating.
2 Prime Star (Bet Now: $3.50) has done an excellent job this time in for the Freedman camp. Racing in good form in the benchmark races before going to the Stan Fox where he was strong from the back when a close up second to Peltzer. If he can sit a pair or two closer in the run this time around, he’ll be dangerous against these.
3 Acrophobic (Bet Now: $4.80) isn’t the finished product, but I like him. Far from disgraced in defeat behind Peltzer in the Stan Fox. Tried hard and worked to the line soundly when a close up third. Whether he’s up to these at this stage of his career, I don’t know, but he does have talent and has a turn of foot when he gets conditions to suit.
Race 7. (16:35) The Nivison 1200m
Class will carry 2 Sweet Deal (Bet Now: $6.50) a long way here. Hasn’t raced for four weeks since finishing midfield in the Golden Pendant at Rosehill. Was near the speed throughout and battled away well but tired late. Reckon fresh legs and back to 1200m will suit her, and we know at her best, she’s just about got these covered.
8 Athiri (Bet Now: $5.00) is absolutely flying for James Cummings and I think she can measure up to blacktype company again with a forward showing here. She has won two on the bounce, both coming here, and each time she has been impressive, the latest being three weeks ago. Good test for her, but think she’s up to it.
9 Asharani (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Kris Lees trained mare who I think can measure up in a race like The Hunter in a few weeks time. Resumed at this track/distance three weeks ago and really caught the eye, charging home late to finish a close up second to Athiri. She’s got improvement to come and should appreciate a strong tempo.
Race 8. (17:10) Southern Cross (bm88) 1200m
5 Hilo (Bet Now: $3.10) is knocking on the door to win one. James Cummings trained gelding who was pipped on the peg by Fituese first up before racing at this track/distance three weeks ago where he tried hard from off the pace but couldn’t quite get there when a close up third to stablemate Athiri. Gets his chance to get into the winners list.
Fitter and up to 1200m are two big ticks for the Joe Pride trained 12 Superium (Bet Now: $5.00). He resumed over 1000m here two weeks ago and was good late despite being in somewhat restricted room when fourth to Blazing Miss. He’s got a good second up record, loves racing at Randwick…just needs to stay on dry ground.
15 So Taken (Bet Now: $20.00) isn’t one of mine. She can be hard to trust, but she won’t know herself with 52kg on her back. Been a long time since she has carried that sort of weight. Not sure she wins last time out at Canterbury behind Best Stone, but clearly should have finished closer. Think she’s going well and is one for multiples.
Race 9. (17:50) Sharp Eit (bm78) 1600m
12 Petronius (Bet Now: $7.50) is a thinker but I think stepping up to the mile and potentially getting control in front sways me his way. He ran over 1400m at Warwick Farm last time out when heavily backed. I think he threw the race away, wandering about under pressure and was able to allow Fortress Command to nab him late. If he can lead and get control, he’ll prove hard to get past.
11 Icebath (Bet Now: $2.70) is flying for Brad Widdup but just can’t quite crack it for a win. She ran in the Silver Eagle two weeks ago and I thought was far from disgraced in defeat behind Flit, a race that had several Group l performers. Much better suited at this level. Just a while between wins now, so needs that confidence boost.
8 Occupy (Bet Now: $35.00) may well have turned the corner. Thought there were encouraging signs for him at Canterbury last time out when chasing hard nearer the inside when a close up third to Savigne. He’s been hot and cold in his time in Australia, but that last start effort gives him a sneaky knockout chance here at odds.
