SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge where a nine race card has been assembled. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out five metres from the 1200m Chute-800m; Out five metres from the 800m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:55) Bridges Event Centre (bm64) 1000m
5 All Banter (Bet Now: $2.15) for me in the opener. Team Jolly trained daughter of I’m All The Talk that is on debut. Looked sharp in a jumpout win back in December before being spelled. Jumped out last week at Morphettville and again looked impressive in winning. Been given a good grounding for start one and this isn’t a strong 2YO race.
6 Mrs Mourinho (Bet Now: $5.00) is a daughter of Smart Missile for Phillip Stokes on debut and she’s very well named given the dam is The Special Two, a nod to Jose Mourinho. This girl looks to have some ability if her trials are any guide. Jumped out last Tuesday at Morphettville and looked to go about her business quite nicely when second. Giving her respect.
4 Fearless Vision (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Michael Hickmott trained filly that was far from disgraced in the Queen Adelaide behind Forever Free before backing up a few days later at Murray Bridge when wide with cover before presenting wider and loved the way she attacked the line to get up and win. Has to be respected against this lot.
Race 2. (12:31) Fibretrack Mdn Plate 1200m
Back up to 1200m looks a big, big tick for 14 Wicked Whitt (Bet Now: $3.30). Putting her 1200m failure two back down to a very wet track. Came back to 1100m and firmer footing last time and worked home very strongly from the back. Should love the 1200m on the bigger track here and the tempo should be ideal, giving her every chance.
13 Sellix (Bet Now: $2.25) is an Alex Stra trained filly that is four weeks between runs since contesting a Benchmark 3YO race at Morphettville when near the speed and battled away well in a strong race won by Fortune Follows in a race that had depth to it. Big tick she comes back to maiden grade and with the claim, is very likeable.
6 West Cliff (Bet Now: $8.50) has been the subject of good early support so I’ll include this first starter. His trial late last year was nothing flash, so was tipped out, but his recent jumpout was more than encouraging to the eye I thought and has clearly improved with that prep under the belt. Given a good grounding for this, and the early support is there to say he’ll run well.
Race 3. (13:06) Carlton Draught (bm68) 1400m
1 Open Minded (Bet Now: $4.20) to bounce back. Anthony Freedman trained three year old that was an impressive winner first up at Sandown before racing there again three weeks ago and according to the jockey, struggled on the bog track behind Final Man. Won’t get those conditions this time around and with the claim for Neindorf, he’s very well in.
8 Robe Bay (Bet Now: $5.00) is a huge watch here. Talented filly for Peter Hardacre that resumes, having not raced since January 11 over the mile here where it was pretty much a barrier trial for her, getting no luck at all. Loved the way she went in a recent Morphettville jumpout and did show gate speed, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do from the wide barrier.
9 Skilled Bunch (Bet Now: $16.00) is a progressive filly for Sue Jaensch and confident she can measure up here. Was very good on debut at Gawler before racing at this track/distance when into a sweet spot just off the speed before peeling wider and taking the lead soon upon straightening and though tiring late, was too good. Think she’ll be better with a conservative steer and having a last look.
Race 4. (13:46) Gold Cup Friday 16/10 (bm64) 1600m
John Hickmott has 12 Love From Lucy (Bet Now: $7.50) flying at the moment. Was $100+ when winning at Morphettville two back but proved that was no fluke with a very impressive win last Wednesday at Gawler. Loved the way she put them away and drew clear over the latter stages. Off what she’s done her past two, has to be hard to beat here.
10 Coolth (Bet Now: $4.50) is a fascinating runner. Team McEvoy trains this son of Dundeel, who debuted over the mile at Balaklava back on April 29 when back, wide with cover, and spotting them a start. When Vorster asked for an effort, initially the response wasn’t instant, but as the race progressed, he surged and gee he was impressive. 2000m+ looks his go, so remaining at the mile is a query, but has a touch of quality.
Fitter and up to the mile is two big ticks for 1 The Sidekick (Bet Now: $10.00), an Anthony Freedman trained gelding that resumed over 1400m at Werribee where he got a tad too far back in the run but liked the way he finished his race off. He is a second up winner…might spot them a start again, but is in the right stable and has more upside than most.
Race 5. (14:21) Irongate (bm78) 1800m
2000m back to 1800m looks no issue for 7 Lieder (Bet Now: $7.50) and happy to butter up. Was keen on him at the big odds last Saturday at Morphettville and tried very hard but was out wide, and there was a clear bias towards those nearer the inside lanes, which the eventual winner Busker’s Ballad was. Lieder looks ready to win and finds the right race.
11 Manzala (Bet Now: $3.60) is a handy gelding that’s in a purple patch at the moment. Loved the way he knuckled down to win two back over 1700m at Gawler before going to the 1800m at Morphettville two weeks ago where he was held up at a vital stage and I think you could make a case that he should have won when a narrow second to Bajan. Hard to beat here.
3 Box On Collins (Bet Now: $13.00) resumes for Team McEvoy, having not raced since January 23 back in 2019 when a strong winner at Sandown. Has clearly had his issues hence the long time off, but thought he has been given a strong grounding for his resumption, with a trial and two jumpouts to get ready. Has a touch of quality too so watch the market.
Race 6. (15:01) Magic Millions (bm72) 1000m
4 Lakhani Rose (Bet Now: $4.20) has looked a Stakes class mare for a little while now and in time, she’ll get there. Was really keen on her two weeks ago…and for the life of me, I still don’t know how she didn’t get the win. Looked the winner live, even on the replays, but the photo didn’t go her way. Has a brilliant finale on her and gets a good set up here to showcase that.
The less said about 10 Symphonette (Bet Now: $4.00) from last Saturday the better. She was well backed late, was in the right spot in the run…but from the 500m onwards, it was just a nightmare. Every move Crowther made ended up being the wrong one and the mare pretty much had a barrier trial. It confirms though that she’s flying and surely the big track here will ensure she gets clear air.
5 Star Of Monsoon (Bet Now: $16.00) can be an improver here at a price. Ran over 1200m three weeks ago at Morphettville where he was put into a good spot just off the speed and though held up for a few strides, he still had his chance and was disappointing. Bit of weight relief will help his cause and do like him back to 1000m.
Race 7. (15:41) Weddings At Bridges (bm68) 1400m
The safe option looks to be 3 Jacobite Prince (Bet Now: $4.00) for the Stokes team. He was an outstanding winner of the Autumn Final two weeks ago on the Parks track at Morphettville, sitting wide no cover on a hot speed and yet he was strongest to the line. Creeping up in the weights, but he well and truly ticked the 1400m box last time. Hard to beat.
6 Done By Me (Bet Now: $3.90) certainly has the quality to take this out for Phillip Stokes. Comes back to 1400m after contesting the Adelaide Guineas over the mile two weeks ago and seemed to get her chance behind Game Keeper but was far from disgraced in defeat. Racing well, knocking on the door…just whether she has that killer instinct to put one away.
8 Blow Torch (Bet Now: $12.00) is a definite improver here. Ran over 1200m at Morphettville three weeks ago, his first run since March 14, and just didn’t have the speed in the legs to go with them late, but the run was still a pass mark behind Aray Of Sunshine. Like him up to 1400m, fitter, and stable does have a good record at the track.
Race 8. (16:21) Tab (bm82) 1200m
10 Enough Swagger (Bet Now: $5.00) has a touch of quality about her and I think she can resume a winner. Her Spring/Summer prep was outstanding, winning four races in a clear career best prep. Has been given a good break and has tuned up for her return with a couple of jumpouts here where she has looked quite sharp. Market will be the guide, but suspect she’s ready to go.
11 Debt Collector… (Bet Now: $4.00) seriously, you would need therapy if you kept backing this horse. It has been nightmare stuff in both runs back from a break. Vorster had no luck on him first up behind Mum’s My Hero, then Neindorf got on two weeks back and it was even worse. He’s going well…just needs to show more early speed.
2 Terbium (Bet Now: $6.00) has been somewhat disappointing this time in but I think you have to give him one more chance. Ran over 1200m at Morphettville a fortnight back where he wasn’t able to take advantage of the inside gate and got a pair or two further back than what Crowther would have liked and the race was just a mess, won by Miss Mandito. If he brings his best, he’ll win. Been a while since he has produced that.
Race 9. (17:00) Christmas Cup Sun 6/12 (bm60) 1200m
Going to give 10 Francisca (Bet Now: $14.00) a chance here for Will Clarken. Had her first run for the new stable on the Parks track at Morphettville where she was back near last in the run and failed to come on in a disappointing resumption. Has been given a little freshen up and like she did prior to first up, has jumped out super. Runs up to the recent jumpout, think she goes close.
15 Alsvior (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Sue Jaensch trained mare that is knocking on the door to win one. Three weeks between runs since racing at this trip at Morphettville when off the speed and chasing strongly, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Aray Of Sunshine. Stable should be respected when they bring them to metro meets, and this mare has a good record here.
9 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $18.00) is a gutsy mare for Grant Young that is on the quick back up after racing at Gawler last Wednesday where she led most of the way and gave a good kick when required in the straight, only getting bloused in the last stride or two by Beeokay. This isn’t the strongest metro race going around, and she has the right racing pattern.
