23/2/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

5 Cateechee (Bet Now: $2.30) looks the one to beat for the Michael Moroney camp. Resumed at Bendigo where she got a fair way out of her ground but despite that, she loomed to win and was hailed as the winner, only to be nabbed late by The Globe. That form does look to read well for this.

1 Matsukaze (Bet Now: $9.50) should be suited up in trip on the bigger track. Market didn’t want him on debut at Yarra Valley and it was proven right as he failed to fire a shot in a plain debut behind Side Bet. Form out of it has been strong and he did open $3.80 so there was expectation he’d run well.

8 Stavanger (Bet Now: $7.00) is a filly that will get better as the distances increase but she is talented enough to sprint well fresh I feel. Team Hawkes trained filly that was potentially on an Oaks path in the Spring but stable pulled up stumps after the Oaks Trial. She’s jumped out well leading and will be strong late.

6 Man Of Heart (Bet Now: $4.40) gets the nod in what looks a two horse race. Danny O’Brien trained three year old that returns as a gelding after a Spring prep where he looked a Stakes class horse but a number of factors ensured he wouldn’t live up to that. Has been gelded and his recent jumpouts have been quite encouraging.

8 Prix De Turn (Bet Now: $2.80) is finally placed in a race he can win. Been thrown in the deep end by Matty Brown since day one and I’d say would need to win this if they are thinking Australian Guineas next Saturday. Missed the start fresh at Caulfield and that sealed his fate, failing to come on behind Coastwatch. If he runs up to his Caulfield Guineas effort, he’d be a genuine $1.30 chance here.

3 Scrambler (Bet Now: $41.00) is bursting to win a maiden. Doubt it comes here, but he’s a must for exotics. Good in defeat here two back behind Forbidden City before going to Stony Creek where I’m not sure he was 100% happy on the tricky track but was good late when balanced up in the straight. Definite first four threat.

I’m with 2 Convict Sam (Bet Now: $4.00). He comes here over a month between runs since working to the line with purpose over 2000m at Flemington behind surprise winner Look Closely. The break between runs is a query but he looked strong in a tick over jumpout, and with Winkers first time, he’ll take beating.

3 Laundy (Bet Now: $5.50) is a query at 2400m but the saving grace looks to be a very soft lead. Ran over 2040m at The Valley last time where he got control in front and looked the winner on the turn but Agnelli had other ideas, kicked back strong and was too good. If he gets a cheap time in front, he’ll take beating.

6 Minola (Bet Now: $12.00) should love the rise to 2400m. Ran over 2000m at Ballarat last time out and I thought she stayed to the task pretty well in defeat after getting back in the run. She was a few weeks between runs there so with that under the belt, 2400m here should be fine.

5 Fire (Bet Now: $1.75) on top. Team Hawkes trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since September 24 when down the track at The Valley behind Minsk Moment, which does read well for this. The old rule with Rosehill trials is that if they run sub 53 for the 900m, they run well soon after and expecting that to continue here.

9 Snakey Mag (Bet Now: $3.60) has to be given a serious chance here. Bit to like about her debut win at Stony Creek where she made a mess of them after getting a suck run behind the speed, drawing clear late to win well. Five years old and only having start two, so she’s clearly had her issues but must be showing something at home to keep persisting and the debut win was a glimpse.

8 Toronasaurus Rex (Bet Now: $34.00) is knocking on the door for Mick Bell. Jumped out super prior to racing at Bendigo where he had no luck in the straight when seemingly full of running and should have been right in the finish. Drawn out, so no holding up this time. He’ll be on speed and trying hard.

Hoping for sustained speed from the front coming to the fore via 2 Dancelittlesister (Bet Now: $5.50). Her run first up at The Valley was absolutely enormous. She was part of a mad speed battle and was entitled to knock right up, but she kicked and looked home, only to be nabbed late by Joseylin. If that hasn’t busted her, she’ll take beating.

3 Royal Dress (Bet Now: $4.80) has to be given another chance. She was the other speed factor in that race mentioned above and on the turn, she looked the winner, but as soon as Dean Holland applied pressure, she went backwards. Tongue Tie on suggests something went amiss last time and she did have a strong SP.

5 Defrosted (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Grahame Begg trained filly that I think has talent. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since January 25 when a strong maiden winner at Kilmore, defying a notable betting drift. Form around her from last prep reads and the resumption was encouraging.

1 Little Stevie (Bet Now: $2.90) is bursting to win and I think she gets her chance here. Close up fourth at Caulfield fresh before going to The Valley where she just got held up at the wrong time on the turn before getting clear late and charged late to just miss. Provided she doesn’t get too far back, run off her legs, I think she wins.

3 Madame Bolli (Bet Now: $3.80) is a beauty for Jim Conlan. Puts herself on speed and gives her all. Three wide on speed fresh at The Valley and she ran so bravely, just feeling the pinch late when third to Destiny Diamond. Good track/distance record and hard to beat if that run hasn’t busted her.

5 Aminatu (Bet Now: $6.50) is a mare that is racing in super form at the moment for Trevor Rogers. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since New Years Eve at The Valley when wide no cover on speed and stuck on okay when third to Moon And Back. Off the win two back, she’s in the mix.

I’m keen to see 8 Stretto (Bet Now: $5.00) resume. Now with the Maher/Eustace camp and we saw on Sunday at Ballarat that the stable improved big time another progressive animal, Eaglemont. I think that can be done with Stretto. He has been hit and miss since day one, but has talent and his jumpout work has been quite strong.

9 Dickensian (Bet Now: $9.50) is a progressive three year old for Peter Moody that hasn’t been too bad in two career runs. Far from disgraced here on debut before going to Ballarat where he made a mess of them from on speed. Good test here, but confident he measures up.

5 Zac De Boss (Bet Now: $5.00) is a hard horse to catch but his best is certainly good enough. Did work to find the front at Bendigo and tried his heart out but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Estoril Park. Was a few weeks between runs so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.

I want to give 6 Dominus (Bet Now: $20.00) another chance. Gave them a spanking fresh at Gawler before going to Murray Bridge several weeks ago where he got too far out of his ground and didn’t finish his race off too bad given the set up behind Lianne. If he can be within range, he’ll take beating.

10 Ocean’s Jen (Bet Now: $3.80) is a progressive mare heading in the right direction for the Maher/Eustace camp. Bolted up two back at Cranbourne before proving that was no fluke with a dominant win over this trip on the Hillside course. Gets good weight relief and she is a mare who does get better as the race goes on.

8 Mister Yu Shu (Bet Now: $15.00) is one for multiples. Strong winner two back at this track/distance before going to Caulfield where he got a fair way back in the run and made up some ground but was never really a winning threat. Suited back here and Craig Williamas has on won on him.

BEST BET: Race Four Number 5 Fire

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 1 Little Stevie

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 6 Dominus
