SA racing continues on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday, and with a heavy track anticipated, expect it to be a slog. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:33) James Boags Premium Handicap 1950m
I think there is a great each way play here in the shape of 4 Annaman (Bet Now: $4.80). Former Queenslander who had his first run for the Weir camp at Caulfield on July 1 where he got back to near last on the rail and though he was never really a winning threat, I liked the way he closed off nearer the inside. Only has upside from that and up to 1950m is ideal.
9 Ace Attack (Bet Now: $4.00) is a tough three year old for the Macdonald/Gluyas team who ran over 1800m on the course proper three weeks back where he did a really good on speed to tough it out and get the win given he was off the bit before the turn and seemingly struggling. He has performed up to 2000m so the rise to 1950m is no issue.
1 Bullitt County (Bet Now: $31.00) could be one for value. he resumed over the mile on June 24 and got back in the run and while he never threatened, his effort was sound. Two trials since, one including a win over Game Pie, who bolted in last Wednesday, so don’t rule him out entirely.
Race 2. (13:08) Letcher Moroney Accountants Handicap (70) 1550m
1 Breaker Of Chains (Bet Now: $4.60) gets the nod for me here but with not a great deal of confidence. This horse ran over 1500m at Gawler (Metro) a fortnight back and though he looked gone 250m out, he found plenty under pressure to win, with a bit of help from the bias towards those near the lead/rail. Form prior was very good and his confidence should be up now.
7 Melody Queen (Bet Now: $5.50) ran third to Breaker Of Chains in the Gawler race two weeks ago and her effort against the tempo/bias was very good. She got well back off the pace and though she never looked likely, she closed off with real purpose. That was her first run in a month, so she should have room to improve.
9 Harlem Child (Bet Now: $23.00) was unwanted in betting when racing over 1200m at Gawler (Metro) and though she didn’t win, I thought her effort was more than commendable behind It’s Been A Battle. She got off the pace and couldn’t really come on but she didn’t give it up. The run prior behind Gold Denari reads very well for this.
Race 3. (13:43) UBET Handicap (70) 1250m
9 Gold Denari (Bet Now: $6.50) is a smart filly for the Kennewell camp who was very good in her first two runs back from a break before racing over 1200m at Gawler where Bowditch gave her a pearler and she rightfully went on with the job for a superb win. Now that she has won, she can go right on with it.
1 Posh Journey (Bet Now: $12.00) is a quality galloper who looks a leading contender here. He is three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m on the course proper where he didn’t really have the greatest of luck in the straight when appearing to be going okay behind Arkham Knight in a messy race. Good record on the Parks track and Hurdle remains on.
3 Swipe Me Right (Bet Now: $13.00) is struggling a bit to find his best form but I’m prepared to give him a look here. He ran over 1400m at Balaklava last time out in a strong midweek race and worked home okay without threatening Dollar For Dollar, who failed with excuses at Gawler. Back to 1250m is the query, because he might not have the turn of foot, but he will be strong late off a likely good tempo.
Race 4. (14:23) Adelaide Galvanising Handicap (64) 1000m
6 Scuzi (Bet Now: $3.50) is a talented mare for the Jarrod McLean camp who should take some beating here. She resumed over 1100m at Murtoa where she was crunched in betting and aided by a lovely ride off the pace by Johnny Allen, she dashed away and was dominant. Back to 1000m is perfect, she maps well, Allen sticks…keen.
5 He is Golden (Bet Now: $9.50) deserves another crack in town. He is still very wayward but very good all the same. He ran over the short course at Balaklava last time out where he was ridden a treat on speed by Simon Price and though wandering late he clung on. The heavy hands of Paul Gatt will straighten this horse right up.
8 Enzo The Barber (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Snippetson gelding that is first up here for the Kennewell yard. His Autumn prep was very solid, including a couple of good efforts in town behind Let’s Tango and the above average Arleigh. Looked okay in a trial behind Pale Ale and he can run well fresh.
Race 5. (15:03) Oaklands Plate 1400m
3 Terry (Bet Now: $4.80) looks a smart colt for the Briedoake team who should take some beating here. Debuted on the Pakenham Synthetic on June 25 where he was backed off the map and the punters got it spot on as he sat on speed and drew clear late to win in what looked a strong maiden. Up to 1400m here looks ideal, has upside and stable doesn’t travel without coming with success.
10 Paris Crystal (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Tony McEvoy trained filly who was heavily backed when debuting at Balaklava and the punters got it spot on as she charged from the off pace and surged to get the win. Trial here last week to tick over was very good and she looks a leading contender here.
7 El Desperado (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Rebel Raider gelding on debut for the Will Clarken yard. Didn’t appear to do much in his first trial here on June 30 before improving sharply last Friday when winning a trial here, running decent time and doing it without being fully extended. This is a pretty good juvenile race on paper, but I think he could be a value player.
Race 6. (15:43) Hughes Limousines Handicap (70) 1550m
12 Liming is (Bet Now: $14.00) a handy mare from Victoria for Jim Cerchi Jr who ran last time out at Sale where she got back off the pace and never really looked likely but you had to like her final 200m behind Wenner. That was her first up run, so she should improve off that and this is a winnable race if she finds her best.
8 Autumn Street (Bet Now: $8.50) is a handy mare for the O’Leary camp who looks a leading threat here. She ran over the mile on the course proper three weeks back where she got back to near last in the run and finished off with purpose to run fourth to Balf’s Choice, who franked the form last week. Ticks a few boxes here and stable don’t come to town without success.
3 Welcome Ned (Bet Now: $11.00) is a stablemate of Autumn Street who is over a month between runs since racing over the mile at Hamilton where he was outclassed but a touch disappointing behind Super Mover. Form prior was solid and this isn’t a strong race, so I don’t think he can be ignored, especially if he is at odds.
Race 7. (16:23) Holdfast Insurance Handicap (70) 1250m
9 Correct Call (Bet Now: $5.00) is on the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday where she was a bit stiff not to finish closer or indeed win the race. She got badly held up behind tired leaders before eventually getting clear and flashing late when third to Nipperkin. She’s yet to do the quick back up but I think she’ll handle it.
4 Stringer Bell (Bet Now: $5.50) looks a leading contender here for the Weir camp. He ran over 1200m at Ballarat last time out where he was an alarming drifter in betting and while he didn’t win, his effort was sound behind Tango Rock in a race that carried far more depth than what he faces here.
10 Magnus Knight (Bet Now: $8.50) has failed badly in town previously but I think he deserves another crack here. He resumed at Balaklava last Wednesday where young Caboche decided to buck the trend and hug the rail, and that move proved a winning one as he sprinted clear and won quite impressively. Interesting to see how/if he measures up here.
Race 8. (17:02) Schweppes Handicap (75) 1400m
14 Princely Blaze (Bet Now: $26.00) gets the nod for me here in the get out. Jarrod McLean trained galloper that ran on his home track at the Bool last time out on a bottomless surface and though he never looked likely given he was miles off them, he made up good ground late to run fifth. Firmer surface here should suit and this is a thin race.
7 Lord Topper (Bet Now: $4.80) is a talented type who hasn’t raced for a few weeks since racing over 1400m on the Parks track where he sat on speed and fought on very strongly to score a narrow but impressive win. Wants firm ground, which he should get here, and his recent trial here last week was very good to the eye.
11 Miss Joolia (Bet Now: $8.50) is a really good mare for the Dodson camp who has the habit of getting a long way back and producing a booming finish. She comes through the Mr Liberty race on the course proper a few weeks ago and she again closed off nicely from the back to run fifth, beaten a couple of lengths. If they overdo it here, she’s the one to watch.
