Queensland metro racing this Saturday heads to Doomben. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:58) Racecourse Village Hcp 1200m
6 Rich Minx (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. She looks a nice filly for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that is on debut off the back of a sharp trial win at Deagon last Tuesday where she seemed to move very well in the run and when clicked up, the response was instant. Gapped her rivals, ran time and did it comfortably. Stable can fire with their juveniles and I think they will with this girl.
2 Mighty (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another look for Tony Gollan. She didn’t fire in two runs during the Carnival in Stakes races and has been given a let up with a look towards easier company, which is here. Tick over trial win here was sharp and I think if she brings her best, she is clearly the one to beat. But, I’d watch the market and see what it does.
1 Crimson Warning (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Defcon filly that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since March 18 here when down the track and producing an end of prep run in the 2YO Jewel behind Mishani Royale. Sharp trial win at Toowoomba last week to get ready for her return and 1200m fresh tells me she’s forward enough to go. Market watch and yard watch.
Race 2. (12:33) Teddy Bears Picnic Plate (C3) 2020m
8 Chayse N Artie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented three year old for Les Kelly that should prove hard to beat against these. He ran last Saturday at Eagle Farm over 1800m where he made a sustained run from off the speed and loomed large to win but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Mishani Spartan. He has run well at the track/distance previously and I think with a more patient steer, he’ll be far more effective.
14 Shezadandi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Greg Eurell in Victoria, she now finds herself with Jason Patton. Her last run was a few weeks ago at Sandown over 2100m when back off the speed and tried her guts out to make a sustained run but had to settle for a third to Hard Squeeze. The form around her does read well for a race like this. Just watch the market and see what it does.
11 Viadelamore (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is placed to advantage for the first time since arriving from overseas. He ran three weeks back at Rosehill over 2400m and just found the trip and class of race a bit much when down the track behind the very promising Fawkner Park. This looks more his level, I like him back to 2000m and Waller has good success when he brings them up from NSW/Victoria.
Race 3. (13:08) Brc M'ship On Sale Now (Bm90) 2020m
7 Atlantic Eagle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me. She was a real eye catcher at the Sunny Coast two back over 1400m before backing up a week later and going to 2000m here where the market wanted her with confidence and under a rail hugging steer from Tarrant, she finished best and beat Carbonetti, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Has that 2000m run under the belt, she’ll do me.
2 Stardome (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 2000m for Chris Waller. He ran a fortnight back over the mile here, his first run since May 13, where he looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out. That said, he was beaten under four lengths and was far from disgraced. Good record at 2000m+ and with enormous upside to come, commands some level of respect.
6 Mubariz (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He ran five weeks ago over the mile here when getting back to near last in the run and made up some ground but was never really a threat behind Shopping Esprit. Tick over trial on Tuesday was a decent piece of work and I do think getting to 2000m is a big tick. Not penning him, especially with the Waller polish.
Race 4. (13:43) Cascade (Rs0mw) 1110m
3 Reliable Ruby (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) only has to hold to her form to prove hard to beat here. She ran over 1000m three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where she got a fair way out of her ground but loved the way she finished her race off nearer the inside when a close up fourth to Rubiquitous. Good record at Doomben and if she can settle closer in the run, she’ll be hard to hold out.
6 Inasec (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is bursting to win a race but keeps finding one or two better. She found one better here a fortnight back, settling just off the speed and came with a well timed run, but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Skidamarink. Finds it hard to win but is consistent and around the mark. She can definitely take this race out.
13 Shanjomi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Matty Dunn trained mare that resumes. This girl ended last prep on a high, winning over 1200m at Ipswich when leading throughout and kicking on strongly to get the job done. She is a mare who can sprint well fresh and with two trials under the belt, the grounding is there to sprint well. Watch the market.
Race 5. (14:18) Sky Racing Hcp (C6) 1615m
2 Ashgrove (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) might want one more and a rise in trip but off the return and with enormous upside, he is the way I am leaning. He resumed two weeks ago over 1350m here where he was kept quite safe in betting but just looked in need of the run when down the track behind Blaze A Trail, who won again last Saturday to frank the form. Fitter, up in trip, depth not deep…leaning his way.
3 Seleque (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks just about ready to win for Chris Waller. She was a few weeks between runs when racing here a fortnight back. She was badly held up early on in the straight but did get clear and finished strongly, but just couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Baanone. With improvement to come, I think she rates highly.
1 Be Water My Friend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at the Sunny Coast where he got back in the run and made up some ground in the straight, but did run his race in patches I thought, so off that, I think the rise in trip is fine. Has a real liking for Doomben…I think watch the market and see what it does.
Race 6. (14:57) Xxxx Dry Hcp 1050m
10 Simbu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will take beating. 2/2 this time in for Tony Gollan, winning impressively fresh at this track/distance before going to the Sunny Coast where he wasn’t as dynamic on the bigger track but he had a class edge and it got him home. Returns to Doomben and off the first up performance here, that is good enough to measure up against these.
3 Matilly… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) just how good is she? 4/4 to start her career, the latest coming three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where the win had enormous merit to it. She led, copped heat and was there to be beaten, but she found plenty under pressure to fend them off and get the win over some really nice horses. If there is petrol left in the tank, she appeals as one of the hardest to beat.
5 Bring Me Kash (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a short course specialist so he’s suited here. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m at the Sunny Coast when near the speed throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when beaten two lengths by Matilly. Form around him, as a whole, looks a bit off, but 1000m horse in a 1000m race = good recipe.
Race 7. (15:37) Ladbrokes Mates Mode (Rs0mw) 1110m
16 Uncle Russ (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will prove hard to beat with a positive ride. They rode him quite negative three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and he spotted them too much head start but loved the way he found the line when fourth to Win Burn. Fast run 1110m is fine and with a positive ride, can settle much closer and still be effective at the end.
1 Orbisyn (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. He tried that two back at Ipswich but was run down late by Deepour before going there again, where he stepped up to 1200m and led throughout, with sustained speed coming to the fore. The end of 1110m at this level is his test, but with his racing pattern, he’ll give himself every chance.
15 Zingalong (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a beauty for Trevor Miller that will jump on the bunny and give a sight. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m on the home deck at the Sunny Coast when near the speed throughout and fought on so gamely but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Win Burn. Like him back to 1110m and with a more positive ride, he’ll take running down at a likely decent price.
Race 8. (16:13) Country Music Raceday 9/9 Hcp 1200m
6 Snowzone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) saves his best for Doomben and off a strong return, he’ll take beating. He was specked late at odds when resuming here two weeks ago. He had a suck run behind the speed and tried hard to get the win but was no match late for Sneaky Five, who led throughout and spanked them. Good upside to come with Snowzone and up to 1200m, he’ll take beating.
9 Astero (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the map horse and brings #SF, which usually stands up in Brisbane. He ran at Randwick two weeks back when near the speed throughout and battled away strongly behind a handy one, former Kiwi, Wewillrock. He has run well in Brisbane previously and stable rarely get it wrong when they bring them this way.
1 Simply Fly… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is he gone? Nearly, but he did show enough last time to give him a look. He ran in the Sneaky Five race from two weeks back here over 1110m. He was back near last in a sit/sprint and albeit he was never a threat, he did make up ground and was good in defeat. Back up to 1200m, I think he’s dangerous if within range on the turn.
Race 9. (16:48) Gallopers Sports Club (Bm78) 1350m
9 Release The Beans (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks one of the better bets on the program. He is flying this time in for Rob Heathcoate and finally gets to 1350m after two runs at 1200m to start the prep. Latest run was two weeks ago here and he was very good from near last on the turn when a close up fourth to in form stablemate Hatchet. He’s getting towards peak fitness, gets to a suitable trip…really keen.
The scratchings have certainly helped 8 Princess Tenko (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). North Queensland star mare that was too good for them fresh before going to the Rocky Newmarket when near the speed throughout and battled away really well in defeat behind Roman Aureus. Should get across from the wide gate, land near the speed and prove hard to beat.
5 Beaufort Park (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) creates interest. He is back in QLD under the care of Les Kelly after a decent stint in Victoria with Saab Hassan. His last run two weeks back at Caulfield when back in the run and making up solid headway without threatening behind Flash Flood. If he brings anything of his Victorian form, he’ll give this a shake.
