The Belmont racing season kicks off this Saturday with a nine race program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:02) FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PK-BM78+ 2200m
Looks a race in two. There is more upside with 3 Mackenzie Brooke (Bet Now: $3.50) for the Durrant team. She ran third to Marocchino two weeks back at Ascot. The race shape was clearly against her but I didn’t mind the way she finished her race off to run third. Hopefully she’ll be closer to the hot pot and does get a 2.5kg weight pull.
If 1 Marocchino (Bet Now: $SP.00) continues to keep winning, they have to start thinking Perth Cup with him. Is he beating decent horse flesh? For the most part, but it doesn’t where you’re racing or what you are beating, winning four on the bounce is a super effort. He’ll look the winner for a long way. Just starting to creep up in the weights now.
2 Bella’s Idol (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a really good record at Belmont and I think is the only other winning chance, albeit a bit behind the first two. Freshened up from his Geraldton Cup effort where he ran a very credible fourth to Big Shot Paddy after being flatfooted when the sprint went on. Tick over trial was good and is in well at the weights after the claim.
Race 2. (14:42) VALE JIMMY GALLAGHER PLATE 1000m
I want to take a chance with 7 Vranyo (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Simon Miller. This girl hasn’t raced since her debut back on Perth Cup Day where she was heavily backed. She just didn’t fire a shot at all and was really plain. Spelled and her two trials leading in, especially her latest, was a sharp piece of work.
1 Flying Missile (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an absolute beauty for Neville Parnham that is just so reliable at this level. She puts herself on speed, travels, kicks and finds. That has seen her win the past two and is hard to beat once again despite a potentially sticky draw.
9 Desert Vixen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Miller trained filly that debuts. She has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one. She hasn’t trialled to suggest she’s a star or anything, but has moved well and trialled well enough to suggest she commands respect for the debut, especially with the camp.
Race 3. (15:22) TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLAT.-RS0MW 1600m
3 Born To Try (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the good thing on the program and one of the best across Australia for Saturday. It was a prep run when she resumed two weeks ago at Ascot. Ridden so negatively by Parnham in what ended up being a barrier trial. Fitter, up in trip, Pike on…can’t see anything other than a win.
5 Lord Lonsdale (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the quick back up for Kieran McDonagh after racing last Wednesday at Ascot. He tried to lead throughout and gave a solid kick. Just felt the pinch at the end. He’s getting towards peak fitness and if he gets a cheap furlong or two in front, he will prove a worthy threat.
9 Darcele (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be an improver here at odds. She was ridden cold two back and scored an impressive win. Rode her normally last time when leading and she tired late. I think with a conservative steer, she will be more effective.
Race 4. (16:02) GLENROY CHAFF (RS1MW) 1600m
5 Trump This (Bet Now:(Bet Now: $SP.00)) This is flying for the Robertson camp and I think he’s ready to win again. Ran over the mile four weeks ago at Ascot and I really liked the way he finished his race off behind Tinsnip. Placed in both runs at Belmont and if he’s within range, he can win for sure.
13 Tri For Us (Bet Now: $SP.00)) is an Adam Durrant trained three year old that has been up a little while, but she is holding her form quite well. Last couple of runs have come over 1400m at Ascot and she has been solid without winning. Interesting she steps up in trip but have to trust the camp.
I think Michael Lane has figured out 1 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $SP.00). He tried to get him out in tip once upon a time, but I think the key to him is the mile. That looks to be his sweet spot and he has been really effective at that trip, so with that in mind, he will take beating I’d suggest.
Race 5. (16:45) CTS LOW LOADERS (RS1MW) 1200m
Good test here for 5 Bright Diamond (Bet Now: $2.00) given she hasn’t raced for nearly 12 months but Bob Peters doesn’t persist that long with a horse if they haven’t got something under the hood and she had shown when last in work, she has got an engine. Trials suggest she’s ready to go, Pike steers. Just want to wait and see what the market does.
2 Home In Five (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be a definite improver. Michael Lane trained gelding that resumed at Ascot three weeks ago. Market wanted to be with him and he seemed to get every chance I thought behind Billy Ray. He should take good improvement from that and his best is definitely good enough.
6 Trevello (Bet Now: $SP.00)) is a handy horse for Team Williams that is hard fit and racing well. He ran at Ascot two back in good style before going to Northam. Sat on speed and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off. Drawn wide but has the right racing pattern to give himself every chance.
Race 6. (17:20) AMELIA PARK (BM62+) 1300m
I think 11 Real Grace (Bet Now: $SP.00) can resume a winner for Team Williams. Talented filly that is first up, having not raced since the Belgravia where she found the class a bit rich behind a very good stablemate in Magical Dream. Trialled well leading in to get ready and she gets Pike to steer.
6 Allmamoney (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have class/quality and I think she can continue her winning ways. Kept on ice, having not raced since April 2 when Winx like odds and duly saluting in impressive fashion. No trials to get ready but she does have class and the right racing pattern.
Toughest test to date for (Bet Now: $SP.00) (Bet Now: $5.50) but all you can do is win and that is what she has done in three career outings to date. All of the wins have come at 1000m, the last two being at Ascot. So that is the query with her. Is she just a 1000m horse, or can she stretch her brilliance to 1300m?
Race 7. (17:55) CROWN PERTH (BM72+) 1600m
Going for a bit of value in the shape of 7 Gunnago (Bet Now: $SP.00). He saves his best for Belmont and in two runs at Ascot to start the prep, I think he has been pretty good. Latest run came four weeks ago when a closing fifth behind the in form Tinsnip. Gets a 4.5kg weight pull on that horse here, got more upside…I think he’ll only run well.
0/5 for 4 Tinsnip (Bet Now: $SP.00) at Belmont doesn’t read great, but if you look at the runs, they have been either in unsuitable races or races where he has been outclassed in. I want to treat him now as a new horse at Belmont and I think a decent lead is that Pike is sticking with him despite a seemingly plain last start effort.
1 Double Digit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I’d include in wider multiples. He resumed over 1500m at Ascot two weeks back. Never really a winning threat given where he was in the run but did like the way he finished his race off behind Bruce Almighty. Might need one more, but he has quality when right.
Race 8. (18:25) SKYRACING.TV-PROV C'SHIP-BM60+ 1400m
6 Kendel’s Mee Dad (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Roy Rogers trained galloper that has been kept on ice since winning a heat of this Series back in March at Mount Barker in impressive fashion. Fresh with no trials, and with this camp, they generally get them ready to fire fresh, especially in town.
5 Dark Assault (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a stablemate of Kendel’s Mee Dad that on paper looks the #1 seed given Pike is booked to ride. He is a handy three year old that ran at Albany last time out when quite keen on speed and that took away something from his finale when second to Kazkazi. If Pike can get him him to relax, he will take beating.
10 Loki (Bet Now: $SP.00) will put himself on speed and try his heart out. Last couple of runs have come over 1200m at Albany. Led throughout to win two back and last time out, he died hard and just felt the pinch late. This race has good depth, so reckon if he is to win, he would want bias towards those on speed.
Race 9. (18:55) HEINEKEN 3 (BM66+) 1300m
5 Chantorque (Bet Now: $3.70) for me in the get out. Good filly that is third up here and did win the Placid Ark third up last prep during the Carnival. Two runs back have been prep runs it seems. Loomed to win last time but her condition just gave way late. Hard fit now, got upside and class in her corner.
11 Angelic Miss (Bet Now: $3.60) is a progressive mare for Simon Miller. Putting together a tidy little record and comes here as a last start winner having won at Ascot two weeks back. Had three wide cover before Parnham eased her wide and she unleashed a strong finale to win and win impressively. Hard to beat.
12 Kelvin (Bet Now: $35.00) can be a big improver here at odds. Fred Kersley trains this four year old, who is second up here. Resumed at Ascot three weeks ago over 1400m when wide no cover and feeling the pinch late. Saves his best for Belmont and at his best, he is more than capable of taking this out.
