A bumper ten event program has been assembled for Ascot this Saturday, headlined by the Railway Stakes (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:59) Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) 1400m
8 Mohegan Ruler (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to 1400m and is one of the hardest to beat after his effort four weeks ago over 1200m here. He got a fair way off speed but liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Kraken Time. Hard fit, 1400m, he takes beating here.
2 Gold Maker (Bet Now: $SP.00) was 1400m back to 1200m when racing here a fortnight back. He got off speed and while he was never threatening, he did make up headway and was good late. The rise to 1400m suits and with a drag into the race, he’s quite dangerous.
3 Mia Gusto (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over the mile last Saturday here. She got too far back in the run and was never really a factor. Like her back to 1400m and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.
Race 2. (15:34) Crystal Slipper Stakes 1100m
1 Beatty (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be taking care of these. Market wanted him with confidence when debuting two weeks ago and despote a few nervous moments, class kicked in and he was far too good. Fitter, extra 100m, Pike sticks, he’s clearly top seed.
9 Hillside Avenue (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Miller trained filly that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials and for the most part, has looked pretty good to the eye. Not sure she beats Beatty but runs well regardless in an open race outside the colt.
12 Saints N Sinners (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy looking filly that is on debut for Simon Miller. She has had two trials under the belt for start one and hasn’t been too bad. Think she has talent…doubt she wins here but runs top four.
Race 3. (16:11) Drummond Golf (Bm66+) 2100m
1 Rocking Society (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in what looks a rather open contest. He ran in the York Cup last start when a notable drifter in betting. He got off speed and was held up at times but was solid late. The rise to 2100m suits and I think with a more positive steer, he can take this out.
8 Twilight Tale (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 2200m here. She got off speed and was held up at times before getting clear air out wide and tried but had to settle for a second. Bursting to win and she gets her chance.
6 Wembanyama (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1800m here. He got a fair way out of his ground but did like the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Odinaka. 2100m should be okay and he has the quality to take this out.
Race 4. (16:51) Mca Polytrack (Rs1mw) 1600m
15 The Crimson Pirate (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in what looks an open contest. He is still a maiden but he does appear to have an engine under the hood. Around two weeks between runs since contesting a Northam maiden when off speed and kept chasing in the straight when second. Will need luck from the tricky gate but if he gets it, he can win.
16 Westbound (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice three year old for Michael Grantham. He spanked them on debut at Geraldton before going to this track/distance two weeks ago when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Lightly raced, heading in the right direction, he has to be respected.
5 Muddy Waters (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying and has earned a crack at this sort of level of race after a win last Wednesday at Belmont when giving them a start and a beating to win impressively. Good test here against likely types but given the way he’s racing, he has to be respected.
Race 5. (17:28) Schweppes (Bm72+) 1400m
11 Sixinch Heels (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Simon Miller after her second two weeks ago at this track/distance when back near last in the run but rocketed late when second to Angel Undercover. Just needs to settle a pair or two closer and she’ll take a power of beating.
1 Angel Undercover (Bet Now: $SP.00) wouldn’t have looked out of place if she got a start in the Railway but she’s here and commands respect after that win mentioned above, defying the pattern in blousing them out wide from the back. Has to be rated as one of the leading contenders.
3 Speed Dream (Bet Now: $SP.00) was 1400m back to 1200m two weeks back when behind Sky Duke. He got off speed and did make up headway without threatening in a somewhat messy race. Back up in trip I do like and his best is good enough to be a sneaky first four prospect.
Race 6. (18:03) Carbine Club Of W.a. Stakes 1400m
8 Kaptain Kaos (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket. He has been freshened up, having not raced since the Hannans at Kalgoorlie when off speed and was good late behind Multinational. Tick over trial was pretty good, he’ll be strong late…just needs a drag into the race.
6 Yonga Lass (Bet Now: $SP.00) will welcome the drop in grade/depth after racing in the Lee Steere when off speed and failed to come on behind Super Smink. Better suited here and overall, I don’t think this is an overly deep contest.
2 Aztec Ruler (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Peters. He got off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there in a driving go when fourth to Storyville. He’s racing really well and a win here wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 7. (18:40) A.j. Scahill Cup 2100m
2 Captain Pluto (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be taking care of this lot. He was arrogant in winning the Luckygray two weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating, producing a really good sustained finale to score. The rise to 2100m is fine and all things being equal, he should be winning this and become top seed for the Perth Cup.
6 Filthy Habits (Bet Now: $SP.00) has eyes on the Perth Cup and looks right on track after his return in the Luckygray. He led and got some form of control in front. He tried hard but first up, condition just gave way. Fitter, up in trip, he’ll run really well.
7 Iowa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one for wider exotics. He finished down the track in the Luckygray, sitting outside Filthy Habits and in a sit/sprint, he just lacked a turn of foot. Like him up in trip, getting towards peak fitness…a first four threat.
Race 8. (19:20) W.a. Guineas 1600m
I am very keen on 4 Rock Fest (Bet Now: $SP.00). Most of these come through the Fairetha and I thought he was the clear eye catcher from off speed when third to King Of Light. He is the one that I think can win this and measure up in the Northerly. He’ll need luck from the gate but if he gets it, he is the one for me, and clearly.
1 King Of Light (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a good horse, I am not denying that. But is he the superstar that some are making him out to be? Thought he was given a 12/10 by Pike in the Fairetha, was fence in run and blessed with the path he got. Plum sit again…but just a slight query at him running a strong mile.
10 Buthelezi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the left field option. Three weeks between runs since a win over 1500m here, sitting wide no cover throughout against the older horses but he made a mess of them late in a dominant display. Tricky draw again, but he has the talent to measure up.
Race 9. (19:58) Railway Stakes 1600m
I really like 1 Western Empire (Bet Now: $SP.00) here. He resumed two weeks ago in the Lee Steere where he pretty much went around for a barrier trial and as such, closed off with real purpose against the pattern. The gate, on paper, could be tricky, but with a genuine tempo, the gaps should appear and he’ll be strongest late.
12 Watch Me Rock (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the obvious. He got a 12/10 by Pike to win the Asian Beau, driving hard late from off speed to nab them late in an impressive display. Team Williams have earmarked him as their #1 seed for the Railway all prep and here he is. Leading contender.
8 Diamond Scene (Bet Now: $SP.00) could be the map horse. He is five weeks between runs since resuming with a surprise win in the Eurhythmic, finishing best after getting a cheap run on speed. He maps to stalk the speed and being a 2000m+ horse, he’ll be strong late.
Race 10. (20:40) Tabtouch (Bm66+) 1200m
2 Smooth Chino (Bet Now: $SP.00) is 4/4 to start his career and no reason why he can’t go 5/5. He resumed with an on speed win over this track/distance three weeks ago, finding plenty under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Ha upside/improvement to come, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
12 Cherry Can Run (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Graeme Ballantyne trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since July 26 over the mile at Belmont when trying hard from near the speed but couldn’t quite get there. Looks to have trialled well for the return, watch betting and see what it does.
1 Keep Reading (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in with a shout here after his return two weeks back at this track/distance when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good return behind Sky Duke. If he runs up to that effort here, he can win without surprising.
