Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:08) Gallopers Sports Club Handicap 1050m
1 Chikara (Bet Now: $5.50) gets the nod in the opener. Supido gelding for Billy Healey that is on debut. He looked to be trucking in a Sunny Coast trial last week when second behind a dominant winner, but he looked to go about his business quite nicely. Gets a good draw to use and finds a winnable race I feel.
2 Pomade (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Star Turn colt that is having start one for Kris Lees. This guy has had a couple of trials in NSW to get ready and hasn’t looked too bad to the eye for his debut. Blinkers on for the debut signals intent to me. Just depends where he gets to from the draw.
8 Licenced And Ready (Bet Now: $4.40) is in with a shout for Paul Butterworth. Attempted to lead throughout fresh at the Sunny Coast and gave a solid kick but was just nabbed late by Thelwell, but didn’t chuck in the towel. She likely lands in front and will give backers a decent sight.
Race 2. (13:43) BRC Membership Plus Plate (Class 3) 1600m
4 Tamilaide (Bet Now: $1.90) is a love child of mine, but I am convinced he’s flying. Race shape was against him two back when second to Jetty. Then thrown in the deep end in The Wave where they ran at a hot tempo and coming off essentially a barrier trial, he just couldn’t finish it off but was still good in defeat. Hard fit now, looks his race.
3 Indian Dreamer (Bet Now: $6.50) hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a spell for Team Edmonds. Really good return fresh on his home track at the Gold Coast before having a month off. Then went to Eagle Farm and worked to the line pretty well when third. Fitter, up in trip with Maloney steering, he’s likeable.
Fitter and up to the mile, I want to give 1 Alatar (Bet Now: $16.00) another chance. He was quite fresh over 1200m at Eagle Farm behind McCovey Cove before going to the 1350m here where he just didn’t have the sprint in the legs so want to be forgiving. Up to a more preferred trip, fitter, he can bounce back.
Race 3. (14:18) Racecourse Village Handicap (90) 1600m
6 Supergiant (Bet Now: $5.50) can run a much improved race here. Market wanted him at a price first up at the Gold Coast and while he didn’t threaten, his finale from near last in the run was more than sound and quite encouraging. Hasn’t done much since his 3YO season, but off that fresh effort, he’s in contention here with a rise in trip.
5 Sea Raider (Bet Now: $2.90) is a very genuine animal who has an awful record at Doomben but he’s only fourth up here and does find what looks to be a very winnable race. Callow got the best out of him and then some when winning at the Gold Coast last time, nailing them in the final few strides. If he brings his best to here, he likely wins.
8 Traduce (Bet Now: $11.00) is a talented animal that can run a positive race here at a big price. Thrown in the deep end fresh in the Lough Neagh some five weeks ago and didn’t fire, understandably so, behind Stampe. 2000m+ is when he comes into his own, so might need one more, but the talent is there to run an improved race at odds.
Race 4. (14:53) Cascade Handicap (78) 2000m
2000m is a little query with 2 See Marie (Bet Now: $2.35) but I think class gets her home. Ran in The Wave two weeks ago at the Gold Coast when seemingly outclassed on paper but I thought she ran a super race in defeat when fourth to Wheelhouse. If she runs the 2000m out well enough, she wins.
Last time 8 Savvy Oak (Bet Now: $17.00) won a race, rainbows were black and white, but I do think Rob Heathcoate has him racing well and isn’t far off a win in these kind of races. He ran at this track/distance last Wednesday when near the speed throughout and battled on okay when third to the in form Stuck With You, which reads well for this.
12 Takeittothelimit (Bet Now: $26.00) is in with a shout. Good in defeat I thought two behind Lady Solerno before racing here last Wednesday where she was a bit flat and plain I thought behind Stuck With You. Has a good track/distance record and a drop of rain won’t hurt her chances.
Race 5. (15:32) Girls Day Out March 12 Handicap 1200m
6 Red Wave (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Team Sears trained son of Red Dazzler that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Spring when a game third in the Toowoomba Guineas after sitting near the speed. Looked sharp in a trial win at Toowoomba and I think sprint trips are his go in life, so he’s hard to beat.
10 Dundas (Bet Now: $18.00) is in with a shout here. Despised outsider in the Starman race from two weeks ago at the Gold Coast but I loved the way he found the line from last on the turn to finish third. Off that effort, you’d have to think he goes close here. Only problem being that run was not expected at all from a market perspective.
1 Andy (Bet Now: $11.00) deserves a shot in town. Andrew Parramore did a really good job with this horse in his first prep, winning three of five with some really good placement and not aiming too high. I like that he resumes in town. If he measures up, then a bonus, but if not, he can always drop back to country grade. But, I do think he can measure up.
Race 6. (16:12) Stradbroke Season On Sale Handicap 1200m
7 Amity Gal (Bet Now: $2.20) looks a smart filly for David Vandyke. Market wanted her heavily when debuting at the Sunny Coast and under a confident steer from Maloney, she was miles too good for them on the wet ground. There is a bit of depth to this field, but I think she has bit of class.
2 Frosty Mango (Bet Now: $2.40) looks ready to win. Lack of race fitness beat her fresh here before going to the Gold Coast where she ran well, beat the majority of the field comfortably, but was no match for Starman. Third up, hard fit now and against her own age/sex, she appeals big time.
9 Pryce (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Team Geran trained filly that comes straight to town off the back of an electric debut win at Toowoomba where sustained speed from near the front came to the fore and she was far too good. Didn’t beat much, but looked to do it with a bit of quality so keen to see how she goes.
Race 7. (16:52) XXXX Dry Handicap (72) 1200m
2 Xanthus (Bet Now: $9.00) gets another chance for me. He should have gone close to winning here last time out. Nash had to make a decision, either stay on the fence and hope for a run or try and get clear air off the fence. He went for the latter, it didn’t eventuate and by the time he did get clear, it was race over. Prior form was sound and hopefully he can get the rub of the green here.
I’m very interested in 17 Zelify (Bet Now: $8.00), a Chris Waller trained mare that makes her Queensland debut. She has some very strong form lines around her from NSW when last in work, certainly good enough to win here, and her recent Gold Coast trial was strong. Winner on wet ground as well, so market will be the main guide.
13 Cossie (Bet Now: $18.00), once upon a time, was a mare that got very shy of the winning post and would turn it up more often than not. That has all changed this time in. She has become somewhat of a winning machine. She was there to be run down at this track/distance last Wednesday but she found and clung on. Not sure she wins, but one for exotics.
Race 8. (17:32) Sky Racing Handicap (1MW) 1110m
17 Air Spirit (Bet Now: $13.00) is capable. Tony Gollan trains this mare, who ran at this track/distance last Wednesday and closed off pretty well from off the speed behind a handy horse in Toorooloo. There is a bit of depth to this 1MW race I feel but she is a proven metro performer with improvement to come.
13 Kingston’s Here (Bet Now: $3.20) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained galloper that is three weeks between runs since a strong win here, where he was smashed in betting and under a confident steer from Nothdurft, he was much too good for his rivals. Good test for him here, but I think he can measure up.
Good test here for 8 Aleysa’s Dream (Bet Now: $5.50) but she proved several weeks ago at Eagle Farm that she can handle the big smoke. She was on speed and there to be beaten but found plenty under pressure, fended them off and was too good. Bit of depth to this field, but hard to knock how genuine she is.
Race 9. (18:12) TAB Plate (Class 6) 1350m
16 Glitter Strip (Bet Now: $4.60) deserves another chance. I was keen on her chances at the Gold Coast two weeks ago but not sure she was entirely happy on the shifty track behind Sea Raider, seemingly running her race in patches. I think she is looking for further, so back to 1350m is the query, but has quality, and Blinkers are on first time.
14 Palladas (Bet Now: $4.40) is getting towards D-Day. Tony Gollan trained gelding that looked a near good thing when racing at the Gold Coast a fortnight back. Maloney presented him to win and for a few strides he looked home, but was bloused late by The Ritz. He’s running out of chances but finds a very winnable race.
5 Roman Aureus (Bet Now: $7.50) is flying for Brian Wakefield without winning and the big tick for him is getting to his favourite destination, the Doomben 1350m. He ran out of his skin at the Gold Coast last time, being hailed as the winner but was nabbed late by Sea Raider. Back where he races best, he appeals.
