Adam Page gives us his runner by runner preview for today’s Rosehill Guineas. View his tips and selections.
1. Anacheeva
Caulfield Guineas winner who has struggled to recpature his best form although his run in the Australian Guineas was good. The rise to 2000m appears as though it will suit him and if he brought his best form, he’d be right in this.
2. Jimmy Choux
He’s the winner. Simple as that I think. Superstar in New Zealand and the best horse to come out of there since Sunline. We have seen many top kiwi horses struggle when crossing the Tasman eg Xcellent, We Can Say It Now, Keep The Peace. I don’t think Jimmy Choux will fall into that category.
3. Pressday
Scratched
4. Retrieve
Was ok in the Randwick Guineas. He finally gets to an ideal distance and is sure to be in the mix. Watch him closely
5. Masquerader
Freshened up after running a good race in the Hobartville. Hasn’t really produced his best since his slashing third in the Caulfield Guineas. Can’t leave him out because he is too talented to leave out.
6. Praecido
He is a very good staying type but the provlem with him is that he gets too far back and can’t make up the ground in time eg Victoria Derby. If they go crazy in front he’ll be charging home but I can’t see much pace here.
7. Domesky
Deserves his chance this after a gritty win in the Alistar Clark at Moonee Valley. He is starting to put it all together now and is a definite place chance.
8. He’s Remarkable
Really struggled in the NZ Derby behind Jimmy Choux. He didn’t handle the bog track that day because he is much better than that. I wouldn’t rule him out of first four calculations.
9. Light Brigade
Tough on-pace effort in the Randwick Guineas when finishing third. He is another that’ll love the rise to 2000m and the Waterhouse/Rawiller factor has to be respected in big races in Sydney.
10. Absolutelyawesome
Massive boom on this horse thanks to Bossy. Ran a really good race in the Randwick Guineas to finish fourth. No doubt he looks a handy type but remember his only victory was in a Kilmore maiden. Still a big chance here.
11. Shootoff
Please. Don’t bother.
12. Don’t Put It There
If he was in a Newcastle maiden he’d be winning but not here.
13. Ducarius
Drop him back to maiden class and he’ll run a good race. Outclassed here.
14. Shamrocker
Surprised many with a super win in the Australian Guineas. She did finish second in the Crown Oaks last Spring so we know she can run the trip strongly. Looks like a leading player in this race.
Selections (Not in order): 2 Jimmy Choux, 4 Retrieve, 9 Light Brigade, 10 Absolutelyawesome
