Race 1. (11:30) Tab Highway Hcp (C2) 1100m
7 Optimo (Bet Now:Β $5.00 TOP ODDS) is flying without winning for Marc Quinn. Latest run came at metro level at Eagle Farm when back in the run and was very good late, just missing out late when a close up third to Hot Spring Gold, who won again since last Saturday, so the form reads well and will be strong late.
5 Bandi’s Boy (Bet Now:Β $3.50 TOP ODDS) needs luck from the gate, but he is a three year old with good talent for Danny Williams that resumes. He was part of the stable that had a fab Autumn ie Shelby Sixtysix, Jalmari etc. This guy won in town despite doing plenty wrong and was spelled. Liked a recent trial and commands respect.
3 Daredevil (Bet Now:Β $21.00 TOP ODDS) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Kody Nestor, then had a prep with Dar Lunn, now finds himself with a very astute camp in Paul Shailer. His form isn’t anything to jump up and down about, but the trials leading in have been sharp and stable finds Tommy Berry, so watch the market.
Race 2. (12:05) Gold Coast Turf Club (Bm78) 2400m
I am all over 2 Strawberry Rock (Bet Now:Β $2.90 TOP ODDS) with a drying deck. He’s an import with talent for the Maher/Eustace camp and I was keen on him at the big odds three weeks back at The Valley. Melham rode an outstanding race on him and he was there to win but just couldn’t get past Ferago. Back on a firm track, J Mac on, upside, different form…keen.
4 So United (Bet Now:Β $3.80 TOP ODDS) will put himself on speed and give a bold sight. He did that when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back and tried his guts out but was no match late for a class animal in Cadre Du Noir. I think the firmer deck is a big tick and if he holds his form, he’ll take beating.
8 Kitzbuhel (Bet Now:Β $21.00 TOP ODDS) is a first four threat. Strong winner with a big weight two back at Narrandera before going to the race mentioned above here from two weeks back. He was on speed and whacked away, just lacking the change up speed. Down in the weights again, he’s one for exotics.
Race 3. (12:40) Midway (Bm72) 1600m
I don’t think an extra 3kg will stop 1 Bazooka (Bet Now:Β $3.70 TOP ODDS) winning again. It was an arrogant Midway win here two weeks ago, making a mess of them under a confident steer from J Mac, who remains on for this. The depth here isn’t overly strong and with that winning feeling again, he can go on with it.
7 Bella Violet (Bet Now:Β $9.00 TOP ODDS) looks to be in for a good prep. She resumed at Kembla when dragged back to last and while she was never a factor, I liked the way she finished the race off behind New Tycoon. Gets a significant jockey upgrade and from gate one, she can settle much closer in the run.
8 Adios Steve (Bet Now:Β $7.50 TOP ODDS) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. Last couple of runs have come over 1800m, the latest in the Midway here a fortnight back when attempting to lead throughout and tiring late behind Bazooka. I like him back in trip and he’ll give a sight.
Race 4. (13:15) Sajc (Bm78) 1600m
Fitter and up to the mile, I think 2 Equation (Bet Now:Β $9.00 TOP ODDS) will take beating here. Resumed two weeks ago over 1300m here where he had the suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten, but first up, condition just gave way late. He’ll take good improvement from that and has a touch of class/quality for a 78.
8 Casino Kid (Bet Now:Β $4.60 TOP ODDS) has been one of the more improved horses in NSW over the last 6-12 months. He went from being a solid Highway horse to now becoming a Saturday class horse. He confirmed that well and truly a fortnight back here with a strong win at this track/distance, aided by a peach from Sam Clipperton. He was only second up, so there is good upside to come.
13 One Aye (Bet Now:Β $8.50 TOP ODDS) has proven herself in town previously so don’t dismiss her. She was good fresh at Rosehill behind Frumos before going to he Forbes Cup when well backed late and #TeamThey got it spot on as the mare came with a well timed run to score. Upside for sure, she appeals.
Race 5. (13:50) Show County Qlty 1200m
6 Showmanship (Bet Now:Β $2.35) is a high quality horse when right and despite bigger fish to fry, he has the class/quality to round these up. He had one run for the O’Brien camp in the Autumn, which came in the Wangoom at Warrnambool when a narrow third to Frankie Pinot. Just one quiet jumpout leading into this run, but if he’s within range, he’s got the finale to overhaul them.
2 King Of Sparta (Bet Now:Β $3.20) deserves another chance. Bletchingly winner who went to the Aurie’s Star down the straight at Flemington where the track was a bit on the shifty side and down the straight, he was plain, but a total forgive IMO. Back on a firmer deck and back around a bend, back home, he’s hard to beat.
1 Special Reward (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is an underrated horse for Kris Lees that is certainly capable of surprising at odds. He resumed in the Missile and was very good from near last on the turn behind Hard Empire, clocking good late splits. He’ll be dangerous if he can settle closer.
Race 6. (14:25) Premier's Cup 2000m
The mail I got earlier this week was that 12 Durston (Bet Now:Β $21.00) would run at Hawkesbury on Thursday and not here. But, the set up at Hawkesbury looks ordinary, so they’ve accepted for this race, and if he does run here, I think he wins. Just looked a bit fresh first up behind Cross Talk in clear forgive. Trialled up like a rocket after that run and he’ll give this an almighty shake.
It’s hard to ignore how genuine 3 Lord Ardmore (Bet Now:Β $2.50) is. He has won two on the bounce, both over 1800m. Strong winner two back at Rosehill before winning the Prelude to this race two weeks ago, knuckling down strongly when it counted to win and win well. He does seem more effective at 1800m but the way he’s racing, the extra 200m should be fine.
9 Grove Ferry (Bet Now:Β $7.00) can be hit and miss but his best is certainly good enough. Freshened up prior to racing in the Prelude a fortnight back where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a solid kick from the front but couldn’t hold out the finale of Lord Ardmore. Fitter, firmer footing, if he can get a patient steer with cover, I think you’ll see a much better effort.
Race 7. (15:05) Toy Show Qlty 1100m
Last bit will be the test but I think the Queensland mare 9 Boomnova (Bet Now:Β $5.50) will give you a ripping run for your money. She won 3/3 during the Brisbane Winter, the latest win being the Lightning. She’s a short course specialist and with residual fitness, plus a sharp trial win, she’s here to rock and roll.
10 Zapateo (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is a James Cummings trained mare that resumes. She hasn’t raced since the Denise’s Joy during the Scone Carnival when given a peach by King and dashed clear late to win impressively. Liked her trial win last week at Kembla and has a good fresh record. Hard to beat.
6 More Prophets (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is dangerous if she’s anywhere near ready to go. She resumes for John Thompson, having not raced since the Emancipation when down the track behind Promse Of Success, and was nominated/accepted several times afterwards, but with the wet tracks, she was spelled. Just one quiet trial, but on dry ground, she is quite dynamic when right, so watch the market.
Race 8. (15:45) Winx Stakes 1400m
1 Mo’Unga (Bet Now:Β $4.60) won this race last year and I think he’s set up really well to repeat the dose. Resumes for Annabel Neasham after a two run Autumn, where he ran second in the Futurity before a let up and racing in the All Aged where the track was too wet. Given a good break and he’s never been a star trialler. He’s a race day horse, and with a dry deck on the cards, he’s the one to beat IMO.
3 Anamoe (Bet Now:Β $2.40) is a high class galloper that resumes for James Cummings. He has been somewhat hit and miss throughout his career but his best is elite. Couple of very strong trials to get ready for his return and you’d think the stable want to give him every chance to win a WFA Group l as an older horse.
10 Fangirl (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a high quality mare for Chris Waller that resumes. She had a fab Autumn prep, highlighted by a dominant win in the Vinery Stud at Group l level. Her two trials leading in have been strong, the latest in fast time behind Overpass, so she’s had a good grounding to run a positive first up race.
Race 9. (16:25) Silver Shadow Stakes 1200m
7 In Secret (Bet Now:Β $3.30) is a very good filly that resumes for James Cummings. She had two runs in the latter part of the Autumn, the second win being a spank job win during the Scone Carnival. Destined for good races, including this, and she moved well in a recent trial at Warwick Farm. Hard to beat.
5 Willinga Beast (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is a filly I have plenty of time for. Kris Lees trains this girl and have just gotten over how she didn’t win the Percy Sykes where she looked all over a winner but Paris Dior fought back and got the win, just. The recent trial at Wyong, IMO, was plain, where she was hard ridden and just got the better of a country class horse, so there is that query, but I am respecting her race day form.
3 Seven Veils (Bet Now:Β $16.00) is here to run well I’d say. Mark Newnham trained filly that resumes, having not raced since the Golden Slipper where she really struggled to pick her feet up on the bog. Been given a good break and with two trials under the belt, the latest a strong hit out, she’s here to run well. Hopefully the market agrees.
Race 10. (17:00) Darwin Turf Club (Bm78) 1200m
13 Arbitration (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a mare heading in the right direction. James Cummings trains this four year old, who resumed at the midweeks at Warwick Farm where class came to the fore and she got the job done under J Mac. Good test for her here, but a win would ensure she’s destined for blacktype.
4 Burning Crown (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is a talented animal when right and I think can take this out. He ran a closing second to Ice In Vancouver in the John Kirby at Grafton before racing over 1000m at Eagle Farm weeks ago where he didn’t quite get the best of luck from the inside gate when midfield behind Red Rubi. I do think outside horses/clear air is his go in life so he can bounce back.
1 Cisco Bay (Bet Now:Β $18.00) will need luck from a tricky gate, but his best is certainly good enough to be dangerous. He resumes for the Ryan/Alexiou camp, having not raced since December 18 when down the track behind Francesco Guardi. He’s a good fresh horse and I really liked his recent trial.
