20/1/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm

1 Commanding Artist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another chance. Ryan/Alexiou trained colt that was backed with confidence when debuting at Randwick a few weeks back. He landed on speed and gave a decent sight but perhaps first up at 1200m, condition just gave way late in the piece behind Parkour, finishing fifth. Better for the run, he can bounce back.

4 Mishani Crown (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on the bunny and give cheek. She did that two weeks back in the Gold Pearl at the Gold Coast and tried hard but was simply no match late for the brilliance of a nice filly in Arabian Summer. Back to this level suits and if there is petrol left in the tank, she can definitely take this out.

6 That’s Interesting (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a nice horse for Leigh Wanless. She placed behind Mishani Crown on debut at Ipswich before going to Rockhampton where she looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, bolting up to win and win well. Harder here, but she looks to be heading in the right direction and is a definite winning threat.

4 Deniliquin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented horse when right and now with Chris Anderson, racing in the Sunshine State, I think he’s hard to beat once again. First run for the new stable came two weeks ago at the Gold Coast where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to wear down Iowa, who looked all over a winner. Improvement to come, he’ll take beating against these.

2 Iowa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. He looked all over a winner at the Gold Coast a fortnight back and was hailed as the winner, only to be bloused late by a brilliant finale from Deniliquin. He was a few weeks between runs there so you’d like to think with a hint of improvement to come, he’ll be hard to get past.

9 Bedford Square (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing really well at the moment for Jack Bruce. This mare was 1800m to 2400m when racing at Eagle Farm a few weeks ago where she made a sustained move from the back and loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish it off, running a narrow third behind Kureder. She has that 2400m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead for this.

1 Bold Comic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance. He is several weeks between runs since contesting the Gold Edition at 1200m here where he got a mile out of his ground and was very good late without threatening behind subsequent Magic Millions Guineas winner Abounding so the form is A1 and back to this level, he clearly appeals.

4 Fortuneer (Bet Now:  $SP.00)…beware the unbeaten horse. O’Dea/Hoysted trained filly that is 2/2 to start her career, bolting up on debut at Doomben before proving that was no fluke with a sharp display at Ipswich. Good test here against some likely types but I feel like she could well be a likely type herself so keen to see how she goes at this level.

5 Jukebox In Siberia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was down to run at the Magic Millions Prelude meeting at the Gold Coast and was going to be a winning threat but Annabel scratched her and sent her to Ballina for a kill, which she got, and was impressive in doing so. She looks Saturday class and while this race has good depth to it, I am confident she can measure up.

10 Master Maurice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very nice horse for Mark Currie and clearly rates highly. He resumed at this track/distance where he defied a betting drift, finishing best and gee he was strong to the line in winning. He has got good room for improvement, upside, good camp, change up speed…very likeable.

3 Blue Spinel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Tony Gollan trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since August 26 at Doomben when back in the run and making up solid headway late in the piece behind a subsequent Stakes performer in Hard To Say so the form reads very well for this. Trial win was sharp and she can sprint well on the fresh side. Hard to beat.

6 Carribean King (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He is now with Matty Dunn after formerly being with Stuart Kendrick. He is a horse who tends to race best at the Sunny Coast but he is talented at his best and IMO, the stable switch is a positive one. I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.

4 Clyde (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win a race. Wide no cover two back at Eagle Farm and tired late before racing there again two weeks ago when well tried at odds and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Sneak Preview. He has that 1800m run under the belt and has found positive form so for mine, he appeals.

10 Moktaffy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He has raced over the mile his past couple, the latest coming at the midweeks here where he got back to near last and made up headway without threatening behind Texas. Like him up in trip and if he’s within range on the turn, he has the finale.

9 Mocambo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a sneaky chance at odds for Michael Lakey. He was an eye catcher two back over the mile here when fourth to Bullion Boy before going to this track/distance where he got back in a slowly run race and just couldn’t get involved behind all the way winner Demon Darb. Hard horse to catch but with a more genuine tempo here, he can run a race at odds.

11 Bettcha The Crown (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. Desleigh Forster trained gelding that resumed three weeks ago at Doomben where he attempted to lead throughout and he tried his guts out but just found one better in what I think is a Stakes class mare, Midnight In Tokyo. Has run well at this track/distance previously and off that return, he’s hard to beat.

12 Substantial (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards D-Day I feel for Team Snowden. He brings the Grebeni form, which reads A1 for a race like this, but he has been held by that horse comfortably, and for the most part, has been somewhat disappointing. He drops big time in depth, he lands in a plum spot from gate one…hard to beat, but not a bet at the current short odds.

4 Alburq (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m which I find interesting. Brian Smith trained gelding that ran three weeks back over 2200m at Doomben where he got back in the run and didn’t fire a shot when running last behind Princess Rhaenys. He was jumping 1400m to 2200m, so back to 1400m…not sure the thought process, but he is a talented horse who can take this out.

9 Black On Beauty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Zoustar for Tony Gollan that resumes. This girl is first up, ending last campaign on a high with two wins, both at this track/distance. I reckon connections would love to get some blacktype with her at some stage and while she may have bigger fish to fry, she flies fresh, she loves the track and has a good racing style.

5 Emperor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing like he will appreciate 1200m. His recent runs have come at 1000m and his last couple, he has just lost sight of the bunny and not been a threat, so I think getting up in trip suits and we know he has the engine under the hood to be very good, so keen to see how he goes at six furlongs.

12 Redwood Shadow (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Redwood for Team Sears that resumes. He hasn’t raced since August 5 over the mile here when hard in the market, first run for the stable, and was solid without threatening behind Aqua Alta. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and will be strong late. Watch the market.

12 Tribeca Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. He is four weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here where he got back and made up solid ground when close up in defeat, finishing fifth to Bezique. He may have eyes on the Country Championships so if he is indeed heading down that path, he’d want to be going close here. I think he will.

10 Storm The Fortress (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. He ran two weeks back at the Gold Coast in a very strong Class 4 when far from disgraced in defeat behind impressive winner Lavish Empire after getting a decent enough run in transit from behind the speed. He was a couple of months between runs so with room for improvement, he’s in the mix.

1 Micro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Dale Groves. Tough winner three back at Toowoomba before going to Toowoomba again when a narrow second to Guts N Glory. He then went to a Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier at Warwick when second to Party Spirit, just missing. Harder here, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.

10 Navas Two (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a former Hong Kong galloper who has had a couple of runs for Adam Campton and he looks a coming winner. He ran three weeks ago at Doomben where he got too far back in the run, spotting those in front a big start, and while he was never threatening, he worked home with purpose. If he can settle closer, or get a drag into the race, he’ll take beating.

14 Tick Tock Queen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Tony Gollan trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since the Stradbroke where I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Think About It in what is an elite form reference. Trial to get ready was strong, she goes well fresh and has class on her side.

12 Iring (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver at odds. Paula Barron trained gelding that ran three weeks back at Doomben in the Hatchet race where he got back to near last in the run and was never a factor but did check off heels and lost momentum at a crucial stage. Much better suited here I feel and that was his first run in just under two months so with room for improvement, he’s a knockout hope.

9 Freedom Rally (Bet Now:  $SP.00) saves his best for Eagle Farm and returning here, he’s clearly the one to beat. Tony Gollan trained gelding that ran in The Buffering three weeks ago at Doomben where he kept chasing from off the speed and tried his guts out but found one better in the Godolphin horse Tamerlane. Hard fit now, up to the mile, back to Eagle Farm…keen.

6 Shopping Esprit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) becomes the key/only threat after scratchings. He was big odds when resuming in The Buffering and while he was never a winning threat, I actually thought he found the line pretty well behind Tamerlane, beaten just over four lengths. Better set up here, can settle much closer…if the fav is off his game, this guy will pick up the pieces.

5 Rousseau (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here off a freshen up for Chris Waller, five weeks between runs since racing over 1800m here when back and closing off strongly when fourth to stablemate Great House, beaten just under a length. Might need this run but maps to do no work in the run and be strong at the end.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 1 Bold Comic

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 4 Clyde
