Wyong will host one of their bigger racedays on Friday for Wyong Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:45) Stone Real Estate Wyong Mdn 1350m
What an awful maiden. Throw at the stumps with 9 Lidia (Bet Now:Β $8.50), who debuted over 1100m here when wide no cover for the trip and tired late in a race dominated by those on speed. Runner up won well earlier in the week at Newcastle, so the form has been ticked off, and does get J Collett. If she gets luck from the gate, she’ll run well in a very thin race.
12 Nano Star (Bet Now:Β $3.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare that has had two runs back from a break. Pretty plain fresh at Kembla but bounced back to positive form at this track/distance last time, sitting on speed and sticking on quite well when second. Has the Waller polish and the depth is low, so she’s one of the hardest to beat.
Fascinating runner is 1 Developed (Bet Now:Β $6.50), a Kim Waugh trained gelding that resumes. He has clearly had his issues given his last run was November 2019, so he must have shown something at home to warrant persisting rather than retiring. Two trials to get ready, on the home track, watch the market.
Race 2. (13:20) B Collins C.A. Da Vinci (Bm64) 1300m
Not sure Wyong will suit 8 Sumatra (Bet Now:Β $2.60) but she is clearly the best horse in the race. James Cummings trained filly that resumed in a Hawkesbury maiden where she looked a good thing on paper and under a peach from Clipperton, she was miles too good for them. I think she’s heading towards the Flight Stakes, potentially, so she’d want to be winning this to warrant heading down that path. I think she can take this out.
6 I Am Geronimo (Bet Now:Β $3.80) has the recent experience at the track, which should hold her in good stead. Game fourth two back before a strong on speed win over 1350m here last time. She was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to win. More depth here, but ahrd fit with a good racing style, he’ll be around the mark.
2 Cinque Torri (Bet Now:Β $7.50) has the potential to beat this lot. Just can be a bit hit and miss at times. Spanked them two back at Muswellbrook before going to Hawkesbury where he got a mile back in the run and was very good late, clocking good late splits. The rise in trip suits. Just doesn’t wnat to be too far back.
Race 3. (13:55) Pbl Law Group Mdn Hcp 1200m
The saver has to be 2 Wealthy Investor (Bet Now:Β $4.40) for Damien Lane, who is first up and with home track advantage, he does command respect. He contested strong 2YO races last season, including the Sires and Champagne. Closed off nicely in a trial last week and maps ideally from the gate.
1 Sacred Field (Bet Now:Β $3.90) gets in okay after scratchings so the barrier isn’t as bad as what it first read. He resumed over 1100m here where he was backed with confidence late but couldn’t quite finish the job when third. Better for the run, presses forward, he’ll run a positive race.
11 Cavalla Bella (Bet Now:Β $34.00) is a filly I am very wary of. John Sargent trained filly that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials where she hasn’t exactly set the world on fire but on breeding, she should go handy, and this stable is very good with 3YO fillies, so for wider exotics, I could entertain her.
Race 4. (14:35) Hunter Petroleum Products (C1) 1100m
If Nowra form can travel to Wyong, then it is all about 11 Cholante (Bet Now:Β $2.50). I don’t think she beat much at Nowra fresh, but gee the way she clicked through her gears, it was something else, clearly clocking the best late splits of the meeting. If that isn’t a one off and she can hold it, never mind build off it, she’s the one to beat.
9 Bayezid (Bet Now:Β $3.70) is a well bred colt for James Cummings that was odds on when debuting over 900m at Newcastle and despite seemingly not handling the wet track, he had a class edge it seemed and he found plenty under pressure to score. Bit of a thin race and will press forward, so he appeals.
Best version of 2 Repeal (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is capable of being dangerous. He resumed over 1000m at Kembla and in a bunched finish, I thought he was a little unlucky. Didn’t really get the clearest of paths and I think could have been in the finish. Wouldn’t be totally shocked if he won this.
Race 5. (15:10) Central Coast Coolrooms (Bm64) 1600m
2 Kokoro (Bet Now:Β $3.20) is capable with his best. Bowman peach got him home fresh during the Grafton Carnival. He then went to the Kenso where he was well fancied but didn’t find a great deal and was on the plain side behind Tuhinga. J Mac on, hard fit, he can bounce back.
4 Martini Crusader (Bet Now:Β $2.50) is the other key winning hope. This guy has come back in really good order, bolting up in a 1400m maiden at Newcastle two back before racing there again over the mile and closed off strongly when second to Oakfield Pinto. If the gate can be used to advantage, he’ll take beating.
I doubt 11 Dream Eclipse (Bet Now:Β $11.00) wins but for wider multiples, I could include. He sat near the speed at Bathurst last time and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Dawn Flight. He’s racing well without winning. That’ll continue here, but he can run first four.
Race 6. (15:50) Mona Lisa Stakes 1350m
5 Katalin (Bet Now:Β $3.80) looks the one to beat. Resumed a few weeks ago at Rosehill and I thought the ride was a bit negative from J Mac. Just took too long to wind into her work but she was very good late when a close up third to Conscript. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating, provided the track isn’t too badly rain affected.
2 Expat (Bet Now:Β $7.00) looks to be flying for Mark Newnham. Her last run came in the Emancipation at Newcastle where she was at the end of the prep and looking for the paddock behind Promise Of Success. Her trials leading in have been super and the big tick is that she has been trialling well without Blinkers, and she is a Blinkers horse. Keen on her running well fresh.
Hard to get away from 9 Sur La Mer (Bet Now:Β $6.50), who is absolutely flying this time in for Chris Waller. Game second to Frumos, a star, two back. She then raced a few weeks ago over 1300m at Rosehill where she made an absolute mess of them and was dominant. In form, good speed in front, she’ll take beating.
Race 7. (16:25) Wyong Gold Cup 2100m
D-Day for 8 Durston (Bet Now:Β $5.50). He’s had two runs and two trials this this time, but he still looks fresh as ever. He bolted on Atkins two weeks back and dropped out to run last. A horse with potential head noise…it’s ideal for Waller to iron him out, so I am expecting improvement, but it’s D-Day in a very winnable race, and does get J Mac, which is a good lead.
7 La Chevalee (Bet Now:Β $5.00) has been up a little while but she is down in the weights and does no work from the gate. She ran in the Premiers Cup last time out where she had the suck run behind the speed and battled on pretty well when fourth to Arapaho. If the track was heavy, she’d be clear top pick. Even without that, she has to be respected.
Team Snowden keep saying that 3 Carif (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is flying despite some average runs to start the prep, but I will say all three runs have come in races not run to suit. He is a stayer and fourth up from a break, he should be hard fit and I think the big tick re intent is the Blinkers back on.
Race 8. (17:05) The Doylo Springtime (Bm68) 1100m
5 Oakfield Duke (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is a horse I have plenty of time for and I reckon the stable/connections are thinking he could be a Four Pillars horse. He has been kept on ice since an electric win during the Grafton Carnival where he looked in trouble but he got clear air late and finished best. He’s very progressive and confident he can take this out.
7 Bullinachinashop (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is looking to make it three on the bounce for Nathan Doyle. Spanked them two back at Port Macquarie before going to this track/distance where he was on speed and there to be beaten but he found under pressure and was too good. Gets the claim for Gibbons, who sticks, and maps ideally again.
1 Land Of Valens (Bet Now:Β $8.00) can be a big improver here. Ryan/Alexiou trained gelding that resumed in a Saturday metro race at Doomben where he was on speed throughout and he tried hard but condition just gave way late. Has a class edge. Just needs luck from the wide gate.
